- In today's video you're going to learn about gradable and non-gradable adjectives.
Gradable adjectives, such as big or cold, can be measured. They can be used with following modifiers: very, slightly, extremely, a bit, pretty, quite.
Non-gradable adjectives include absolute and extreme adjectives. We use absolute adjectives (e.g. dead or finished) with absolutely, completely, and totally.
We use extreme adjectives (such as delicious or exhausted) with absolutely or really.
As usual, you can practise what you learn with my quiz questions. For more exercises, visit my ETSY SHOP: www.etsy.com/shop/HowToEnglish

yes, I have a question for you madam. Is the adjective "different" a gradable or non-gradable adjective ?.
I think its gradable
thanksss
You're welcome!
Hello!! what about QUITE. it has two opposite meanings.. It's still confusing.
Can we use like this?
Fairly clean rather dirty
Fairly cheap rather expensive
I listened delicious is gradable adjective. Or not?
Hi Ms, could you please explain why SLIGHTLY PERFECT is acceptable, I think SLIGHTLY will go with GRADABLE ADJECTIVES, but PERFECT is ABSOLUTE ADJECTIVE ??? I am a bit confused 😢
Hello, can you give me an example? Where does it say that it's acceptable?
You are right - perfect is an absolute adjective.
@@howtoEnglish1 Thank Ms, I saw it by chance on the Internet when I wanted to read more about this topic, I can't find any longer 😭, so 'SLIGHTLY PERFECT' is wrong, isn't it?
@@trangthu2813 maybe somebody (a writer?) was just playing with those words and used this phrase on purpose because it sounds so odd :) Slightly perfect is incorrect.
@@howtoEnglish1 Thank you so much Ms 😍
@@howtoEnglish1 Hi Ms, Plz help to choose the correct option , I am a bit confused 😢
e.g. Peter is QUITE/EXTREMELY different from his brother; they don't have anything in common?
I have 2 questions, Could you help me to clarify?
Q1. Is DIFFERENT a "GRADABLE" or a 'NON GRADABLE' adjective?
Q2: 'QUITE' has two opposite meanings 'Completely' and 'Not Very'. Can we say QUITE DIFFERENT (=completely different) ?
Hi
doesn't exhausted mean tired, can't we say I'm very exhausted?
No .bcz exhausted is non gradable that 'why we can't use very before exhausted but we can use absolutely before exhausted.
how i don't know you before?
melhor que amanda
Thank you
you're welcome :)
