I always like it when they steal from Walmart, put it right up on Facebook Marketplace, and then sell it right out of their car in the Walmart parking lot.
The idea that shoplifting raises prices is a lie in most cases. Corporations assume that they will lose a percentage to shrink (all forms of loss) and tack that on to the price, regardless of whether or not they lose that much. Inflation is a problem though.
I remember back in 2012 those spider lock keys being for sale on line for anyone to buy. Makes things much easier I presume if you have the key unlock those pesky things w/o cutting the string and alarm going off or a strong enough magnet and rubbing left to right a few times to demagnetize them so someone smart enough could just walk right out with a shooping cart full with a bunch of stuff and no alarms going off carrying any receipt in hand out the front door. But what do I know
In the State of California, you may steal any item with a value of under $1,000 dollars and it is not considered a felony. You will receive only a ticket as it is a misdemeanor. Also, you will not be detained and, because it is considered by our laws as such an insignificant crime, the police often will not respond to retail thefts of this type. Also, store employees are generally precluded from stopping such theft.
Employees are not law enforcement and would be liability if they get hurt or if anyone does. That's why nobody cannot do anything. Read a book and your laws before crying
It is kind of sad. I guess that is why I put the law changes out there so that people might be informed and give it some consideration. As it is a new change in law, perhaps the representatives of the people will decide to change it yet again.
The result is goods are locked down, unavailable, not in stock. The new trend is you may go to a store by appointment only ! Anything to keep the riff raff away.
Most of the time security is there just for their presence to deter thieves, but a lot of big chains have policies in place to not allow the security to actually stop thieves. In addition, there is a labor shortage in the US right now so it would not be an easy feat to just hire security for many thousands of stores.
Stop blaming it on retail theft. Its liberal policies such as not prosecuting shoplifters who steal under $900 in goods. That's it, period. If you don't like retail crime rings - quit creating them. If the sales of stolen retails goods is higher than ever then quit incentivizing it.
Use robots and have a locked mechanical door. That only opens when bought and paid for the grocery store should be like that too they should. Why would anyone want to work hard if they can just get things for free. On the flip side, why would anyone want to put in the work to work on these products, and not get paid. Double negative to advance our society.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't private security firms exist for this reason? Businesses both big and small alike are free to hire them. It's just who can afford it and who cares to hire them.
Shoplifting under a certain amount is a misdemeanor, which is a minor crime. If they don’t have a probation/parole hold or a hold from another county or state, they are released on their own recognizance. Bail is often not required. Yes, they could be out there doing it again, and I’ve seen that, but it’s not a good idea. I’m a Sheriff’s Sergeant and I had a guy I arrested for shoplifting get out a couple hours later. I got another call later thar day for shoplifting, and there he was. I was like really? Are you crazy? If you get out again, go home. The next morning, I got several shoplifting calls and on one of them, there he was again. I was shocked. This time the jail held on to him until he went to court. A few weeks later, I testified against him in court. I made a point of explaining what had happened. The judge was not happy and hammered the guy. 6 months for each charge, running consecutively. So 18 months in the county. He ended up serving 13 months of that.
I hate this story, could you guys focus more on serious crimes… like the Insurrection, police abuse of power, crimes involving guns, and violence please I know Coach, Apple, Guess ect ect are paying you for this story but I’m tired of it

No it’s doesn’t cost everyone. Drop the BS already. Shoplifting a supermarket may hurt everyone nearby. Rob a luxury department store doesn’t hurt the poor.
All the more reason to ban Facebook.
Craigslist? OfferUp? There are so many apps and websites that arrange local sales. You can't just ban them all lol
Haha yeah that'll never happen

screw that, don't censor their faces, show them all over the media!
That would be racist.
Telling the whole story, telling the truth, showing their faces are all racist and hateful unless it’s a white person then it’s ok

Companies make millions if not billions, and pay their employees change. I'm sure they can afford better security.

Where are they not prosecuting for under $900? A misdemeanor is still a crime and we prosecute them here in Oregon.
500+ bucks for that tool set no wonder why..... that ceo and board are rolling in billions
For real ....🤦🏻♀️
How does this not fall under RICO ?
Everything might have to go to curb side pick up after paying for it

Why not steal the item. Then use the item. Godz I could use a new Miter Saw
Sounds like you overdue for a home depot run homey
Most shoplifters use what they steal.
that's why need to educate people about why it's better not to steal.
educating about morals and ethics, also spirituality & karma.
unless drug dealers are gonna start accepting "morals and ethics" as payment, good luck. it's not like opium and coca grow on trees!

In order to enter a store all people should have to have government ID scanned.
