    For a split second, the 2K, 3K, and the 6K of the DC Metro sounded like the simplified version of the NYC Subway R160A traincars

      Well, they were both manufactured by Alstom

      They're also both ONIX systems built in the USA around the same time. (R160 is ONIX 800, Washington Metro is ONIX 2000). The Warsaw Metro Metropolis 98B also has an Alstom VVVF that makes the same sound as the R160, with maybe some subtle differences.

    You must have got a train with a clean carpet floor. Most I see just do not hold up which is why the floor on the 6000 series is being replaced with the type on the 7000 series. Although the seats on the older trains are much more comfortable than the ones on the 7000 series.

    • @wmatafoamer4857
      @wmatafoamer4857 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 6000 series has a few more months or years probably until WMATA orders the 8000s.

    • @towcat
      @towcat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 6000s are out of service untill further notice, though. Can't seem to figure out why they came apart.

      What about the 2Ks?

    • @towcat
      @towcat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      2k, 3k, and 7k are the only ones in service. 1ks were retired as the 7ks arrived. 4k and 5k were retired shortly after the arrivale of the 7ks because the 4s and 5s were horrible. 6ks are out of service untill further notice following 2019's series of uncoupling incidents. And by uncoupling, I mean at the drawbar end where they're not supposed to separate. From what I understand, they discovered workmanship and building issues that requires the entire fleet of 6ks rebuilt on the blind end and with the 8ks right around the corner and ridership still down from Covid, it's not worth the effort and money to rebuild them right now. As for whether they will ever be rebuilt or just scrapped, that is to be determined.

    What cities or countries do you normally visit to make these recordings? I have several trains in mind whose traction motors have sounds I would be interested in seeing on this Inductor-Recording display, but I don't want to overload you with suggestions.

      Since I'm Japanese, I've recorded almost all the trains in Japan which seems to be recordable.
      Also I went abroad several times, but not so frequently.
      I'll upload them in this channel or my website, but it will take several years to finish this...

      That's because the sound caused by the PWM is almost erased by the motor's roaring sound in the higher speed range.
      If you record them by using an inductor, you can get this full asynchronous PWM's sound.
