The truth is it's always going to be about patience and consistency. I treated my hair every week using protein treatments and moisture treatments. But above all, I believed in my hair and chose to have a gentle and hopeful attitude. Spoke life into it and prayed over my hair. Jesus helped me recover. It feels GREAT to have my curls back, with so much more length and volume. I'm not yet at my goal length which is 22 inches, but to be at 10 full inches of healthy natural hair from a place of full heat damage especially because I don't think we really had such genes where I'm from, it a blessing and a miracle. 22 here I come! 🥳 It's worth it ladies. Thanks love and I’m so happy you got your hair back on track! 💗💗💗
My situation: so i have naturally fine textured hair (as in definitely not thick, but not extremely thick either) so it's not really possible to just regularly put my hair in a puff/ponytail/bun/whatever lol it has to be a good day for me to be able to do it. My hair can also get dry pretty easily and i have tons of fairy knots and split ends but the only way I can get rid of them is via going to the hair salon and the ones in my state (delaware) aren't all that and i always end up with heat damage somehow so i'm not with that. Also, i'm in my early teens (14) so i am not trusted yet to cut my hair on my own. So, please, if anyone has any tips on how to maintain moisture, and get thicker hair and all that good stuff for my situation i'd love to hear it!!!
COREYLA hey girl I'm actually 13 and I'm not trusted to cut my hair yet but guess what I did I actually cut a little before my mom would braid my hair (not the best advice but it helped😂) also to slowly nurse your hair back to life you can use can't products ,they are not expensive so you can use your own money and you don't have to bug your parents Hope this helpsv:)
Try a rice water rinse. Also spray your hair with water and oil it least 2 times a week. I do it everyday day. Also try Hair/Skin/Nails Vitamins by Nature’s Bounty in a pink bottle. They work my hair grew 1 1/2 inches in one month.
So I just learned I have heat damage after watching your videos. I never knew this so it is shocking to me. I'm new to having to take care of my hair by myself and I am clueless. I don't know what kind of hair type I have but I can describe it. I have shoulder length very thick hair. I have heat damage so in the middle it is very straight and like the ends are curly. sadly I do have split ends and breakage. I use to always straighten my hair because it was easier to handle. The salon I would go to would use a lot of heat and I never knew the effects if what I was doing I have given up hope before on my hair and let go. it also gets very dry easily and the curls never last. Do u have any tips or ideas on ways I can try and restore/fix my hair.!!!! this is just a guess but I think my hair is in the 3 or 4
Your hair may be medium width (thickness is medium), but if it's type 4, you could be coarse in present day. Best way to figure out the width (aka thickness) of your hair is having it disentangled then placing it in a ponytail, and using a measuring tape --> Less than 2 inches is Fine Hair. More than 2-3 inches is Medium width. And At Least 4 inches [or more] is Coarse hair. This is Thickness, and/or Width Texture of one's hair. Density is how much hair we have. Low density is Thin hair. Medium density is not too thin, not too thick. Normal; Covers head pretty well. And High density is very thick, coarse hair. Likely has lots of volume. Then there's hair porosity, based on how hair absorbs water/moisture. Best way to find this out, is a hair strand test (from a hair brush) in a cup of warm water. There's images about the hair porosity strand test online. :) How to do it + result meanings. Ranges from Low porosity, average porosity, and high porosity. This is all, width, density, porosity, and even some insight about textured pattern type. It really depends on how your hair feels, and looks like. ♡ Hopefully this somewhat helps out.
+MyCrownOfCurls I've been natural my whole life too! And that's when I started my journey as well. 🎉🎉 Have you straightened your hair since you started?
Joi Wade hahah whoop whoop! There aren't many of us who have been natural for all our lives! I actually have never straightened my hair but I do blow dry my hair once or twice per year. I am deathly afraid of heat damage girl lol but I think next year for my birthday I'm gonna straighten it. So I'm making sure that my hair is super healthy now. I have a TH-cam channel as well btw 🙈
I recently figured out that i got heat damaged hair i realised that i got different kinds of curl like 3a 3b 3c 4a and i was like what has happened to my hair then i realised its slightly lighter than my roots so then i understood that yesss its heat damaged😭
I have been getting my hair blow dried since I was little and at 8/9 I started getting it straightened and I’m now 11 I wanna go natural... But every time my hair dries it gets SUPER frizzy and dry
Hey! What I would give to you as advice is to start transitioning slowly. Get styles like braids, maybe a twist out if you wanna try it out. You don't have to deal hair so much with these types of styles. Deep conditioning your hair helps too because it moisturizes and softens it too. Hope for the best for you!
Super helpful! Thank you so much. I go through phases of embracing my natural curls and ironing it lol, but I notice my hair has been doing this very beautiful, tight small curly spirals all throughout my hair (similar to rastafari curls 😆 as type 3B). And it seems beautifully curly after a recent hair chop I did so decided to in the end embrace it (though after the chop had done a coconut oil treatment to only later iron it for an important event; so has minimal very tiny split ends with my medium width). Am going to continue to give it TLC -- Deep conditioning + trimming. Thanks for the tips again! It's been awhile where I fully embraced its curly mane.
Hey, so i made a few minor mistakes while trying to go natural a few months back! no biggie tho because mistakes happen, i am ready to begin again, my number one question has to be how do you know your hair doesn't agree with certain things? your videos are very helpful and much appreciated, thank you!
I’m 9 months no heat and natural and I like it I guess back when I straightened my hair I would use 350 heat ..yeah the journey is hard but I think I will get through it im trying to grow out the damage and then cut ig
I have heat damage and my hair is really long but my mom keeps yelling at me saying nothing is wrong and keep sending me to the hair salon to damage my hair even more because I sit under the dryer really long after 3 perms and I am in middle school 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄😣😣😣😣😡🤬😡
I've been getting relaxers my entire life, but about a month ago I did the big chop. I think my biggest struggle is figuring out which products work for it. Also, which video editor do you use?

I actually have heat damage from having a leave out ( with my sew in) for my 20th birthday back in February, so this vid was perfect for me! I tried to switch it up and ended up with heat damage. I'm just happy it isn't my entire head! Lol. The damage is not curly, but definitely extremely wavy, so I think I'm going to trim... Slowly of course. Haha
i had my aunt straighten my hair and now i’m really scared that i have heat damage. i was being a fool and a used more heat on my hair 4 extra times a bf now i’m really worried :((
i dont know if mine is bad. my hair still has its curls but i blowdryed my hair to try to get it moer poofy 3 days in a row and now it just doesnt feel as soft. i even did a afro today but i need tips to get it more soft.
Question. My hair is heat damaged. I think. I just straightened it like a week ago and I'm considering to dye it. Can I do a treatment (rice water, avocado, mayonnaise, aloe Vera and casteroil) and then proceed with the dye like a day after?
“When your hair is damaged by heat, it’s permanently damaged. High or excessive heat can permanently break the S-S or disulfide bonds within hair strands that give hair its strength along with protein cross-links. Heat damage can be prevented or treated but not repaired.” www.naturalhairrules.com/using-heat-natural-hair-heat-damage/
What should I do? I’m really trying to grow my damaged hair out but in the whole back my hair was so damaged that it fell out. I basically have short patches of hair with a few straight strands coming from those patches. Should I just shave all my hair off ?
can someone fr help? i had perfect curls and they were really long and i cut my hair and now they look damaged even though i dont use heat. what happened to my hair and how do i get rid of it?
I need help. I’ve been wearing braids for years now then when I went to Africa I decided to texturize my hair (the texturizer that straightens) and I did it approximately 4/5 times a month (I stayed there a months by the way) and now I have chemical damage (at least that’s what I think), when my hair is dry it looks normal then when I wet it a lot the ends are like wavy/straight and I don’t wanna cut it!! please help!
My rooys are curly, while my middle is BONE straight and my ends are loose curls! My beautician and mom have decided not to cut it. They think it will come back, will it?
I have some heat damage but I'm transitioning out of it. I refuse to or better yet just can't part with my heat damage right now. Especially since it's finally growing. Other than that my struggle was not having any growth but it was bc I wasn't putting anything in my hair at all. No leave in, oil, dc, nothing. And then I had the nerve to wonder why my hair wasn't growing lol now that I focus on moisturizing my hair it's growing. I went from shoulder length to BSL in a year and a half which was amazing since I was stuck at shoulder length for 2 years
I relaxed my hair straight off fir2 months when it had heat damage! Really stupid but at that time I wasn't aware of natural and proper hair care! So after that my hair wasn.t reverting to natural which it usually did do in the past! Instead I was getting new growth that was really kinky! After 4 months in this awkward stage I installed micro braids for 2 months? When I took them off the damaged hair fell with the braids, and I was left with fragile completely natural hair...Any explanation for that?
Yes, you damaged your hair with heat and relaxer. The braids put extra stress on the already dead/weak ends. The damaged hair may have had split ends that effected your natural hair.
What's this song called..the Keyshia Cole mix....even the other one? Thank you for these tips. I'm about to trim my ends for a second time in a few weeks. I just trimmed a couple weeks ago. I'm just trying to get it right.
Can you talk about repairing split ends more. I have split ends that went all the way up my hair shaft 😞 I can't figure out how to repair without chopping off all my hair
Split ends = Trims, especially if it is as severe as you say it is. They will stunt your growth and just add more time between you and your hair goals.
Is it unusual that ever since I started spraying my hair with se salt spray then blow drying it, the area lost hair, its chronically dry and wrinkly and won't grow as fast? My scalp also started to hurt when I would blow dry. I've stopped after seeing the damage. I used to have thick and fat hair strands now it's all super fine and dry!!!! I also found I've been using protein shampoo n conditioner that just makes my hair brittle. Ofc I've stopped all culprits mentioned. Trying to recover my hair. Pls help.
Joi Wade yes. But not often at all. My heat damage is minimal because my hair still shrinks but not as much as my sides and back. But then am not sure if it's difference in hair type or heat damage. Am still confused 😕

I'm not yet at my goal length which is 22 inches, but to be at 10 full inches of healthy natural hair from a place of full heat damage especially because I don't think we really had such genes where I'm from, it a blessing and a miracle. 22 here I come! 🥳 It's worth it ladies. Don't give up! 😍
@@chelseajoy254 That’s amazing! Thank you so much for sharing! It brings me so much more hope that I’ll be able to repair my damaged hair. I don’t want to cut it because it’s still got some curl to it and I believe I can restore it and you just gave me a boost of confidence that it can be done.
So, please, if anyone has any tips on how to maintain moisture, and get thicker hair and all that good stuff for my situation i'd love to hear it!!!
this isn't completely related to the video so sorry but still, if i can get any tips that'd be helpful!!!
How I Trim My Natural Hair with No Heat (Waist Length Type 4 Hair): th-cam.com/video/CMR-_dYr-B8/w-d-xo.html
They work my hair grew 1 1/2 inches in one month.
always have the cutest earrings!
Thanks! I have a collection lol✨ Do you have any video requests?
Where did you get the earrings from?
My trip to 🇵🇦 Panama
How do you know if egg isnt working well with your hair?
You and your hair are absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing these great tips!
Thank you so much!!! Of course. You look beautiful in your profile photo, how long have you been on your hair journey?
Joi Wade aww thank you! I've been natural all my life but I only strted my actual healthy natural hair journey in 2012 ☺️
+MyCrownOfCurls I've been natural my whole life too!
Oh my goodness, if you straighten it I for sure want to see!! I'm scared of heat damage too. I'll check out your channel too
Thank you so much Joi Wade, this video was much needed.
Thanks! ✨ Do you have any video requests?
Joi Wade , yes can you please do a natural hair DOS and donts? Or an everyday natural hairstyles video?
I recently figured out that i got heat damaged hair i realised that i got different kinds of curl like 3a 3b 3c 4a and i was like what has happened to my hair then i realised its slightly lighter than my roots so then i understood that yesss its heat damaged😭
I have been getting my hair blow dried since I was little and at 8/9 I started getting it straightened and I’m now 11
I wanna go natural...
Kc Bernaber thanks 🙏🏽 😊
I’ve been straightening my hair for 10 years so u think I can still get my Afro back?
You will have to do a big chop cause thats a longtime
I have heat damage and my hair is really long but my mom keeps yelling at me saying nothing is wrong and keep sending me to the hair salon to damage my hair even more because I sit under the dryer really long after 3 perms and I am in middle school 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄😣😣😣😣😡🤬😡
Sameee
same 😭
I've been getting relaxers my entire life, but about a month ago I did the big chop. I think my biggest struggle is figuring out which products work for it.
Also, which video editor do you use?
Here are my favorite products to use: bit.ly/Joi-Hair-Shop & I use iMovie
How did your hair get so tick
How do you know if your hair doesn’t like protein? I’m tryna transition but I find it hard.
How long was your recovery journey 🥀🌸
Hey, I did a slick press about a year ago and I'm paying the price for it now. The back of my hair has straight parts and I don't feel any new growth. It's literally straight parts at some of the roots. Any tips?
Ashley Latson big chop, use oils find what your hair likes, moisture Nd always keep it protective like braided.

Haha
Yes, thank goodness it is not the whole head! Definitely continue trimming.
I am stuck in the hair plateau phase where it hits shoulder length and then never grows from there. Help me!!!
i had my aunt straighten my hair and now i’m really scared that i have heat damage. i was being a fool and a used more heat on my hair 4 extra times a bf now i’m really worried :((
I don't get that some people hair are fine with hair straightenimg. Did u get it Pressed with a hot comb?
i dont know if mine is bad. my hair still has its curls but i blowdryed my hair to try to get it moer poofy 3 days in a row and now it just doesnt feel as soft. i even did a afro today but i need tips to get it more soft.
Question. My hair is heat damaged. I think. I just straightened it like a week ago and I'm considering to dye it.
Can I do a treatment (rice water, avocado, mayonnaise, aloe Vera and casteroil) and then proceed with the dye like a day after?
Feel free to ask a professional hair stylist for proper guidance :)
@@joiwade_ Turned out that it wasn't damaged 😊😊 but thanks!
This was so good! Thank you x
There’s just levels to heat damage ..... it is repairable, just depending on the heat damage level ur on
“When your hair is damaged by heat, it’s permanently damaged. High or excessive heat can permanently break the S-S or disulfide bonds within hair strands that give hair its strength along with protein cross-links. Heat damage can be prevented or treated but not repaired.”
www.naturalhairrules.com/using-heat-natural-hair-heat-damage/
So if you totally don't use heat but the shrinkage is too much... What do you do?
U look beautiful 😘😘
The video gives me hope
I only have heat damage in the very front if I cut the front it’s just going to be long on the rest of my head.
✂️
I went from shoulder length to BSL in a year and a half which was amazing since I was stuck at shoulder length for 2 years
Kinky Koily Kayla That's awesome👏 Keep going girl soon you will have waist length hair
Yay! Congrats on your progress. Do you have any video requests?
Should you avoid roller sets also?
Very informative. Choice of Music was kind of distracting though
Thanks! I'll look out for that next time.
Mennn I’m literally going to cry I just big chopped Omg
Pls help.
Why are you using salt spray?
Salt is extremely drying.
Salt takes out moisture...
My hair is thin and I only straightened it once it got heat damage after only ONE time
Lisanne Wheeler Your hair was thin before you straightened it? If it was , then it is understandable. Your hair was too delicate to handle it.
How often did you deep condition when healing from heat damage?
I tried to deep condition weekly, sometimes it was every two weeks though! Do you deep condition?
Joi Wade yes. But not often at all. My heat damage is minimal because my hair still shrinks but not as much as my sides and back. But then am not sure if it's difference in hair type or heat damage. Am still confused 😕

Showing curly love!! :)

Had a modeling competition and they made me straighten my curls and it ruined my hair.
Hn don’t do something you don’t want all females know heat damage is HELL
Does cutting the edges of your hair help
What do you mean by edges?

It's okay I got the answer on the video I was I asking about cutting the ends
How often did you do protective styles (the braids and twists)?
From November-February I was usually in protective styles. Then I would do something during the summer too. How often do you protective style now?
Like 5 times a year. I live in a tropical island so there are no seasons. It's basically summer throughout.
I have 4b/4c hair type
Twins! Do you have any video requests?
