I will never forget this moment. I was born in Windsor, in 1950, the same year as HRH Princess Anne. My parents took us to Ambassador Park to see Her Majesty and HRH Prince Philip. It is engraved in my memory, and I shall never forget it. She was so beautiful and vibrant. They drove past us, standing up in the car and waving. My parents got us there early so we were right at the front of the procession. God Bless this extraordinary Monarch, woman, mother and grandmother. She has devoted her life to service of her people, and she will forever be for me the most amazing person. Upholding Tradition, and never wavering from it, despite all the nonsense from some of her Children.
I had just turned 10 & my Windsorite sister-in-law took me & two older sisters to a park on the riverfront & we climbed over a barrier, right over the river, to get a better view. We were 10-15 feet from the Queen & Prince Philip. Thanks so much for putting these films together. I’d forgotten the great Britannia ship.
Michigan governor G. Mennen Williams sporting his trademark bow tie is seen greeting the Queen. Very good editing work especially the sound sweetning, Michael.
Outstanding footage. I am surprised by the number of small boats allowed so close to their ship. I was 9 years old at the time of the visit and sadly did not witness this epic event.
I was at the river front with the crowd that day to greet Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. They didn’t see me but I was able to take their picture (from far away) but it was a thrill! That photo is one of my treasures. My boss didn’t mind at all that my lunch hour had been extended. Mary Boldizar Jacko👑
I was 8 yrs old and my grandparents lived on Riverside Dr. along the Detroit River. We were all out front on the sidewalk when she drove by. We were all waving our little Canadian flags and cheering. Even though we (my parents & I) lived in the States, I was born in Canada, my grandparents in Wales and my parents were born in England.... so it was especially important to them. I have 2 px of the event that my Dad took..... one of the Queen driving by and one of the Britannia.
Old guy here. I was there. And when the Queen came back in 84 I was the president and entertainment chairperson of the Windsor press club. Which overlooked Dieppe gardens. We wrote an official invitation for the queen to come and have a cognac with us. We got a reply from the Palace thanking us for the invitation but with regrets the queen would not be able to attend. We still had a party anyway and were all crowding around the window as she rode by waving her hand
I have a picture of my Grandmother & Grandfather meeting the Queen & Prince Philip this day. My Grandfather was the plant manager of the GM transmission plant at the time. My Grandfather was born in England, came to Canada when he was in his 20’s. My Gran was from Belfast, Ireland & came to Canada when she was 18.
Fabulous footage and an excellent edit. That observation platform at Dieppe Park was built for this Royal visit in 1959. A friend of mines father - John Glos, Sr.- was the project manager for construction of that building. He worked for the City of Windsor at the time.
Great job in putting this video together. I was very young and living in Cambridge (Ont) at the time which was part of the 1959 tour and did have a glimpse of the motorcade near my Grandparents home (both grandparents were from England).
Thanks for the video. That was the summer that I moved to Windsor. I watched the queen from the Loblaws parking lot near Lincoln and Tecumseh, now Franco's parking lot, across the street from Paul's Cycle in the opening clip. The experience showed me that the royals were nothing special, just a couple of my parents' generation. Still, I never forgot the experience, though I wasn't quite seven then. .
My parents took us there to Dieppe Park that day. I was 2 and my sister was 9. My Mom took photos of her with 2 RCMP Mounties plus the Queen on a podium giving a talk. My sister still has those Bl&Wh photos. #RIPHMQueenElizabethll 🙏🌹🇬🇧❤🇨🇦
1984 along Walker Rd. Standing in front of Walker School as the Queen drove past. We stood out there for over an hour waiting for a car to take 4 seconds to pass. Kinda cool to be there but, very unsatisfying when you're 12....lol
During her visit the queen confided in the Canadian Prime Minister that she just found out she was pregnant with Prince Andrew. She was urged to cancel the tour but insisted it was too important. Buckingham palace held off on the announcement until they returned to London.
Michael, was the Queen’s visit to Windsor to open the first International Freedom Festival which was also in July 1959? I remember my dad putting me up on the wall next to the gate to Jackson Park, I had a bird’s eye view of the Queen and Prince Philip, Prime Minister Diefenbaker and Lester Pearson and Paul Martin as their vehicles entered the park. Only 6 years old then.
I was there! I was 10 years old but I’ll never forget that day! Thanks so much for preserving these memories of HRH Queen Elizabeth.

Yes I was very happy to come across the photos taken from the second floor if the observation platform.
I don't even remember when that came down now. Late '00s?

I remember the yacht Britannia at the waterfront that year when I was 11!
Thanks for sharing
From Chatham Ontario, so know Windsor well, but not from 59.Great video!
There was a Paul's cycle shop on Tecumseh Rd. Just west of Lincoln in the 60s and 70s.
that's the exact one Vincent.
But where's "Don the Barber"? Was he not established by then?

I'm almost certain that yellow Tug boat at 4:19 still exists up the Rouge docked at Fordson Island. 210 S Heidt St
