Love on Toast is a 1937 American comedy film directed by Ewald André Dupont. It was John Payne's fourth film and a rare on-screen appearance of acting mentor Stella Adler (credited as Stella Ardler), here in her movie debut.
A female press agent must select a "Mr. Manhattan" and "Miss Brooklyn" for an ad campaign mounted by a struggling soup company. The Mr. Manhattan chosen is a singing soda jerk who doesn't want to play along. (Imdb.com) - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน
Stella Adler was one of my instructors in grad school at UNC Chapel Hill and in New York afterwards. She called me one of the greatest talents she had ever known!
That was nice of her to credit you that way. Did you ever appear in films or on stage?
She said the same thing to me, she’s just being nice.
I love that they ended the movie with a pie fight! 😂
Wow, Stella Adler! If you haven't heard of her, you've certainly seen the amazing talent that she has inspired through her School of Acting. Great film, thanks
Stella and Luther.
What a great Romcom. The writing is witty and the story turns in directions you don t anticipate. The apt Super with one word scene, loved it. Late 1930s.
Scene almost half way in abt the baby is interesting. John Payne always gives a grand performance. Enjoyed this one alot. 🍒
John had a good career developing into powerful performances.A tough guy with a soft centre,he had a good singing voice and made several musicals.John gave a sympathetic performance in an episode of Columbo. This episode starred Janet Leigh.
You know it's a comedy when Franklin "light in the loafers" Pangborn is cast as a character to pick a woman in a beauty contest...and one of the contest's prizes is a trip to Europe in 1937...maybe to Poland or Germany!! Thank you for posting this gem.
Totally delightful! Thank you!
According to IMDb this was Stella Adler's film debut.
Souperb movie very funny😇😇😇 for 1930s a must see👀👀👀👀👀👀👀
What a GREAT title! Looking forward to watching this in the bathtub in a few minutes! Fun! Thanks for this. ☺️
Good fun! Thanks Rare Silents and Talkies!
Thank you for this! This is amazing! I love Stella Adler!
A female press agent (Stella Adler) must select a Mr manhattan and a miss Brooklyn for an ad for a struggling soup company.the Mr manhattan chosen is a singing 🎶 soda jerk (John Payne) who doesn’t want to play along!! This was Stella Adler’s move debut! I’ve seen John Payne in another movie on this channel and miracle on 34th Street and Kansas City confidential! -he’s good!-and the film ends with a 🥧 pie fight! Good job! 👍 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
John has a profile like Ray Milland.
The great Stella Adler! I loved the song John Payne sang to her with all the little Method Acting references. Fun movie!
Paramount was still struggling at this point presenting depression-era comedy, but this is a good one, like a stage play. John Payne is such a natural in parts like this. Even a fuzzy copy like this is enjoyable. If you like this, watch, "A WOMAN OF DISTINCTION" with Roz Russell.
They were saved by comedies with May West
@@ausbrum You are right. But Mae West saved the whole movie industry. People had stopped going and she got them interested again.
John Payne was such a handsome man. And quite the flair at making ice cream sodas. 🤗🍨
17:55 The photo though 🤣😂🎂
I always enjoyed Isabel Jewell. 🥰
Isabel Jewell was a gem.
Mmmh marshmallow 😂
‘Who’s the Twirp Now?’
That woman looked more like the grandmother of the baby.
"Mother knows best"....
MARSHMALLO
Stella Ardler...

Is there a movie from the ‘30’s that Luis Alberni isn’t in?
What was the boxing all about? Not very good is it?
What was it to do with the plot.Plus it wasn't funny.
Ima
What was the real reason she stole the baby?
I'm a John Payne fan from Way Back, but even he isn't enough to save this film. Borrrrring. And I am not impressed by 'Stella Adler'.
Movie takes the Cake🎂🎂🎂it's Souperb😊😊😊very funny for 1930s 😇😇😇
