  • Gilan Rural Heritage Museum is a museum in Sarvan Rasht Forest Park in Gilan province. This museum has been built on a land with an area of about 260 hectares in Saravan Forest Park, located at 18 km of the Persian Gulf Highway (Rasht-Tehran road).
The preliminary study phase of this museum began in early 2002. In May 2005, the first workshop of this project (Cultural and Architectural Area of East SpeedRoad Plain) was launched.
The buildings of 9 original villages of the province, in which the original architectural symbols of Gilan are visible, are to be rebuilt and then re-arranged in the place of this museum. Of these villages, one village is in the eastern plain of Gilan, namely Lahijan and Rudbaneh, and the second village belongs to the central plain of Rasht. The third village belongs to Fooman. The longevity of the buildings on the museum site is from 65 to 180 years. In this museum, the type of life, work, housing and handicrafts native to Gilan are displayed.
The idea of establishing a museum was formed after the June 1990 earthquake in Gilan, which intensified the process of destroying traditional buildings. But the phase of its preliminary studies began in early 2002. First, extensive studies were conducted to locate the appropriate location for the project. After many studies, Saravan Forest Park was selected as the project site due to its suitable and similar topography of Gilan, easy access and the existence of suitable infrastructure facilities. At the same time, the required forces were trained. The architectural part of this museum is a complex whose buildings are on average 150 years old. The goal of the Gilan Rural Heritage Museum is not only to transfer rural buildings, but also to preserve the indigenous culture, construction technique and unwritten knowledge that existed in the villages of Gilan. In this collection, in addition to rural architecture of different regions of the province, other cultural elements related to the tools of life and work, food, clothing and… will be displayed.
