I am just curious why your father had a visa validity problem. The embassy will give you the validity date of your stay in Japan based on your application request or intended date of stay in Japan. Therefore, the dates should be given based on your preferred date of your trip. Unless you suddenly changed your trip date after you have given the visa. However, that is very risky when you are already at the airport and yet you are not sure if they will allow your father to go.

Ganda jan sa Osaka, gradual yung lamig, so mas matagal yung autumn. Dito sa Canada, wala ng dahon yung mga trees tas -15C na. Bilis lumamig.
