I met McVey in Philly several times back in the late '80s (87 I think). We waited for him after the show and was nice enough to chat with us and had pictures taken. He's my favorite Jean Valjean. He even recognized us (stalker) when we watch him in DC.
I also saw J. Mark McVey at the Orpheum in Minneapolis (Dec. 9, 2011). I was blown away! He put such emotion into his portrayal of Jean Valjean, and his voice is amazing, The role fits him like a glove!
@ChristianDemocrat My thoughts exactly. I have always thought he is the best! I also think there is nobody that has a voice like his, so incredible! Blows me away every time.
Okay, sorry if this is a stupid question but I never got this: how is it that the other guy also has a 24601 branded on his chest? I mean, that's going slightly beyond mere coincidence, don't you think?
Not a stupid question at all! It really doesn't make sense. The show actually doesn't use the 24601 brand any more, probably because of that very fact, since all Javert would have to do would be to check for the brand to find out the other guy isn't Valjean. Instead they use a generic brand that the other guy might also have had as well if he was ever a prisoner. There's no number brand in the book; instead, Valjean proves his identity by stating little known facts about the other prisoners called to court to identity him. Also, the other guy is sort of simple minded and doesn't really challenge the accusation. Check the book out, the whole sequence about Valjean's confession is incredible.
That last note lacked the chest connection I wanted to hear. I think he can do it; he just needs to be smarter about how he uses his weight earlier in the song.

I just saw him hours ago. I got his autograph, and told him he was an amazing singer. :) It made my life.
Mark McVey is an AWESOME Valjean. I got to see him in D.C., twice, and he was amazing. Would love to see him again.
I saw McVey in the Les Miserables tour in LA today! He was amazing!
Watched this guy on theOrpheum in MN last night. Friggin epic.
J mark mcvey is the absolute best! Nobody like him, ever.
@masen5 I love the way you phrase and find words to spin your voice again. Broadway needs more singers like you and J Mark McVey.
I just saw this last night! FABULOUS!!!
Jean Valjean and Javert are unbelievable!
This song makes me want to be a better person
My favorite in Les Mis. Very touching
VERY TOUCHING, but, we are SO much more than a number, know this to "break out of the control systems!!" 🙀😍🌻😇♰🌠🍃🌹

You're welcome
Is there a reason this only comes out of 1 headphone?

Do you have the whole show?

I agree with you.
Whose playing Javert?
I know you asked 6 years ago, but it's David Masenheimer. It says so in the description.
