Romeo can do everything Yngwie can do. Not so much the other way around. Romeo isn't just a shredder. His composition skills are out of this world.

Its hard to pick between these two - they are both so great. Yngwie's Rising Force (debut solo album) is out of this world compositionally. Probably the best arrangements of his entire career. On par with Jason Becker's Perpetual Burn album imo.

Romeo clearly has the better range and variation. Doesn't help that the audio quality they used for Romeo was horrid compared to that they used for Yngwie. Whether that was intentional or not I dont know...

      @Complicaadd0rock 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@FatalMusa My guess is there's just not that many good quality vids from playing Romeo live around. Yngwie already had had a huge boost before he even started his career as a solo guitarist. Romeo came to prominence several years after those events, so he nurtured from players that came before him like Yngwie for sure (also Randy Rhoads was a huge influence on him, maybe second to none), and he took their skills to a WHOLE other level, but with less notoriety except for us, niche appreciators who happen to listen to him with Symphony X and fall in love with his guitar playing, composing, arranging, producing and his overall musical outpour. What a great time to be alive and being able to enjoy both of these Gods among men performing live here in Chile 🇨🇱❤️🎸

I'm 55. I grew up listening to Yngwie first. He's a great guitarist and I love the first album and the stuff he did with Alcatrazz. Marching Out was decent, I lost interest after Trilogy.
Michael Romeo produces, arranges, composes all of Symphony X's music. Other than the first album(no Rusell Allen) practically all of their albums are masterpeices. IMHO.

Along with EVH, Yngwie inspired pretty much every rock guitarist in the 80s...even Romeo. However, while Yngwie (and EVH) stagnated, Romeo took his playing to the astronomical level it is today.

I dunno man. I've been an YM fan since the mid 80's. He was shredding before lots of these guys ever picked up their first guitar. He practically invented it. That being said, there's just something about the way MR's playing is just so effortless. Yngvie may have been the original, but I gotta give the nod to Michael. He's the shred king.

Prime Yngwie, from the times of Jeff Scott Soto and Joe Lynn Turner was indeed one of the greatest guitar players in history, but he was more balanced playing with the left and right side of the brain back then. Yet, there is absolutely no way to compare his other phases with Michael Romeo, which is the GOAT (greatest of all times).

We must take a moment to recognize just how successful and impressive Malmsteen is DESPITE being severely handicapped by his inability to do anything outside of downward pickslanting. Likewise, take Andy James, a player who is the opposite (limited by his steadfast upward pickslanting). Both are killer players.
Romeo is free and can play anything these guys can, but they can't play what he can because of their limitations mentioned.

Romeo hands down!! His new War of the Worlds pt. 2 album so 🔥🔥🔥 couldn’t put my finger on it at first but it sounds almost like if the The Lost Boys had a sequel soundtrack. I’ve always loved Yngwie but more of a one trick pony neo classical harmonic minor kinda sound gets old. but Yngwie did indeed sort of invent that style and bring to forefront. Romeo is a better writer and works with a vocalist and more versatile in my opinion. He took that style and pushed it further. Romeo surpassed Yngwie along time ago during Odyssey late 90’s and is more on the level of Petrucci now. That new album is 🔥🔥🔥 completely outdid himself again with WotW part 2 . Seriously I thought I heard everything out of Romeo and sort of forgot about him but no he’s still out here pushing it and has really never stopped. He gets my vote !!

YM is a sentimental favorite. A pioneer of neo classical metal. Having said that I got to say; MR Has built on it, and taking it to another level. Got to give it to MR.

Well both are technical powerhouses but: one of them sounds like a majestic force of nature, the other one sounds like a kazoo.

Technically, Romeo's a lot cleaner and more versatile a player. He really took that whole neoclassical thing to the next level. His rhythm playing is actually where it's at for me, though- Some of those Symphony x tunes just crush. Still mad props to Yngwie- gotta take his stuff in the context of what all else was going on at the time when he was hitting big. I mean, he brought that style to the masses- I don't think progressive metal would be what it is today without cats like Yngwie in the mix.

to point out my choice, i must say that i love symphony x. romeo shreds the power metal and prog metal scene. we all know that the people that we love, who shred prog/power are epic. however, yngwie malmsteen was from a previous era, and gave romeo a platform before he was baroquing and rolling. romeo wasn't shredding before symphony x, but yngwie was 10 years before. gotta give it to the malm.

Romeo of course, a much more versatile musician and essential songwriter. Great vibe, unique phrasing (yngwie also has it) and also, great riffs.

I will give a lot of respect to Yngwie for what he does & I take nothing away from him although I feel at times Ynwgie sounds like he forcing himself which to me sounds choppy especially having seen him perform. But I got to go with Michael being that his arranging in orchestrations along with the fact that he does play effortlessly & I got to say that his 2 handed tapping is absolutely insane. I'm going with Michael on this.

There is no comparison. They are two completely different approaches. Yngwie approaches things like a blues guitarist would. The guy worshipped Hendrix. Romeo is awesome but his solos are a little more on the robotic side. Not to say he doesn't have feel. But his phrasing is different. You can't really confuse one for the other. Once you hear them. It's obvious who is who. That being said. Both of them are awesome and I love their respective approaches. I'm still trying to learn the solo for Sea of Lies. It's a really awesome solo.

There is something a lot of guys here aren't remebering, there wouldn't be Michael without Yngwie, don't forget It! My vote is for the precursor Yngwie Malmsteen!

Both equally great in their own way. But just to vote on sheer signature sound...Yngwie is the man. No matter whos playing without seeing them you will always know its Yngwie playing. His sound is undeniable. Just my opinion

Sometimes when I hear Romeo’s solos it sound like a keyboard. Malmsteen’s solos always sound like a GUITAR solo. Both are great shredders indeed, but I prefer Malmsteen because of his sound.

Yngwie. The difference is the emotion in the bends and vibrato, and phrasing. Also Yngwie’s rhythm playing and tone are more interesting to me.

Yngwie does next to no tapping and Michael is about 75-80% tapping here. It's not that Yngwie can't tap, he just chooses not to and still keeps up. On that alone, I will have to vote Yngwie here, even though I don't want to.

I watch one player and try to fathom what is going on, and then I watch another, and another...and soon I lose track of my opinion because with all these players I'm in pursuit of something, whether its boring or exciting, that if I get it, I also will melt faces, my way. 😃
