A rich source of vitamin C and other many nutritions, Amla or gooseberry protects and cares our health as mom cares us. So we have to preserve them for whole year, by collecting them in the season. Deepavali festival is amla season. We must use hill/jungle/local small variety amlas as much as possible. Because they have more health benefits. These improve our overall health, health of heart, balances sugar level, improves digestive system etc. Not only about amlas, but this video also gives the message regarding save trees and save nature. Here we show a Lehya by using gooseberries.
Ingredients:
Jungle amla : 1 kg
Jaggery: 1&1/4 kg
Black pepper: 3 spoon
Stars : 2
Cinnamon: 2 inches
cumin seeds: 1.5 spoon
Cloves: 13-15
Cardamom: 10
Ginger powder: 3 spoon
Water

Thinking that the traditional grinding stone would be more efficient than the painstaking rubbing into a sieve. Or the mixer. It may cut through the fibres of the nellikai, but we would still get its benefits. Did not know that star anise was used in lehya making. Is there a word for it in kannada?
