I'm a lyric baritone . This is difficult piece to sing. He sings it with warmth and passion. That Ab is not that easy . I like his tempo. Bravo.
What a beautiful interpretation.... measured and tender. Thank you.
lol, i love all these people critisizing, as if they know what they are talking about from watching youtubes videos and listening to other singers music. just enjoy the awesome song
wow that was tremendous. what a wonderful presentation of that song. i loved it its was so real and beautiful. also he is just gorgeous so that helps. beautiful technique. i really enjoyed this.
the music is written with a decrescendo on Helt. often singers just crescendo through the phrase to hide their lack of training.
Good point, I make sure to hit it every time
this is the most beautiful performance of this piece on youtube. so often people try to over-perform it methinks. The haunting beauty of it, in my opinion however, is created in large part by its simplicity. I think you did this exceptionally well.
The venue you're singing in, does it not have any decent acoustics? I feel it didn't give back to you as you were giving to it =/ ? Otherwise, very nice :)
YOu made me forget other interpretations, and htat's fantastic. I love the softness you bring to it, the affection -- so it's not as awestruck as E lisabeth Schumann's, but SO tender.... Really beautiful feeling tone.
so im reading along in the music as im listening to this and i get to where he sings "Treib andern schmerz von deiner Brust." Only my music says "aus dieser Brust." Which is it?
He's not true to the original in that line
Hey , you made me look for all your videos, you are an excellent singer who knows how to manage his voice and catch attention,
Ah yes, a true Chromium baritone! Great performance. Ten Stars*
Well done, sung as the maestro intended.
Wonderful interpretation, beautiful voice
Excellent vocals and presentation. Beyond good!
C'est tellement magnifique qu'on en perd les mots
He sings with such warmth and beautiful tones: with this song especially, we should leave off comparisons, and just enjoy beautiful singing!
Beautiful voice! He drags it (just slightly), in my opinion, and I prefer the pianissimo on the second crescendo only - (Yes, I prefer the classic interpretation sung by Fischer-Dieskau, etc). Gorgeous voice!
the Dies "Augenzelt von deinem Glanz Allein erhellt" part is one large crescendo, he shy's off it on the Helt...otherwise, i thought it was very well done (granted i can hardly crescendo it the whole way thru, but i can stagger my breathing, yay for choirs! lol)
I really enjoyed this, you did an excellent job, especially with the f>pp at bar 59-60 and 73-4. ubiCARITASetAMOR has a good point though. As you approach those two beautiful climactic phrases, be careful not to cut Allein too short, or it breaks the phrasing up a bit. Really enjoyed this though, thanks for the post
@jondatflindo It's "aus", I noticed it at once, but frankly such a minor (and logical) slip in the words has no incidence whatsoever on my appreciation of this wonderful interpretation.
well, I have I heard many versions, and almost all the vocalists sang the FIRST "erhellt" with crescendo in the whole word and the SECOND with decrescendo on "---ellt". I think that this was the way Schubert wrote the music . It's much nicer that way imo, I "lost" Aschwin when he escaped that important part.
He got a charming voice. I like it. I found he got forget the lyrics. He should sing "aus dieser Brust" instead of singing "von diener Brust." However, it's a miner mistake.
i am more handsome but i don't sing this piece so well yet ;) so you can sleep calmly, Ashwin... for now LOL
Very good, but a bit too slow in my opinion. The accompanist might be well known, but not excellent.
Erhelt - means "lit up!" It's challenging to light up on decrescendo's.
Check out the Ferrier recording.
i'll gladly send you one but how? :) and what to prepare for an audition? :)
What a dishy baritone. Looking forward to more from this one.
I think this is excellent, if only a little too slow.
This is sung so beautifully, heartfelt with a warm voice. The tempo, by the way, is perfect! "Du bist die Ruh" means, "you are tranquility" and should be sung with the loving peacefulness Mr. Ashwin emits.

muy bonita interpretacion!!!!!!!! congratulations
omg.
your perfect.
i love this song ;D
I agree. The first should be on a crescendo or the artistic value and emotional value becomes lost. What does it mean if you decrescendo on both? The phrases must reconcile with some sort of meaning of expression otherwise the intentions get lost.
The singer here has a nice voice, and of course Schubert wrote a masterpiece!
This is very fine.
omg.
your perfect.
