I think water will sit on the second layer of roof and cause rot damage. Maybe you can seal the gaps further with rubber from rubber tree? It is also a lot of weight which can be dangerous? Love the stone walls you did a great job.
I am thinking of some type of oils or tar for rot proofing and sealing the roof .
he also wrote that this is a temporary solution
I don't think waterproofing is necessary as the roof will be made of wood until it is tiled in the summer.

Amazing resilience, determination, imagination, and sustainability. An example for us all.
Duong, a piece of advice: when you make the permanent roof, try to have it extend past the walls of the house so there is an over-hang. It will prevent rain from collecting around the foundations of the house, and also give you a dry area to walk to the kitchen.
You could also add gutters to the edge of the roof, which will catch the rain water and you can direct it to the pond. This would reduce the amount of water that forms puddles around the house.

You might consider strips of copper along the ridge. The copper will stop the moss and mold from growing on the wood planks and give it better life

Now I know I love that hand forged saw. It held up under heavy workload. It was so satisfying when the lumber fell after the cuts were made.

The walls need "buttresses"

What about burning the wood beforehand for the roof ? "charred wood" it's called, I recently learned about it, it adds waterproofness in addition to other benefits
It is called Shou Sugi Bon, I would not recommend it for a roof in the jungle. A good metal roof is his best option. WITH SCREWS!
@@jimcooksey812 That's not really possible with his options though, is it? Iron isn't a good candidate, and I don't know that he has access to aluminum or tin - to say nothing of forging an entire sheet metal roof, or of forging screws. Terracotta shingles are his best bet, in the long term.
I believe the subtitles said it was a temporary solution, and at some point soon he will be tearing down the roof and building a new one. i imagine he has been doing a ton of planning for this so we will just have to see what he has decided on doing for the roof.

For water and moisture barrier you can use oil tar made of linseed oil and carbon black between the planks and the roof tiles..also the coating will be light in weight..

Duong, something else you can try before the summer is to make mortar tiles for the roof. You can put them right on top of the plank roof. Use straw or shreds of bamboo in the mortar to make the tiles lighter and then shape them into rectangular tiles and overlap them like you would for a shake roof.

When you burn wood on the outside it will be very water resitent and thus rot resistent , maybe a tip for the next time you put on a new wooden roof . Nice new house build 👍

You can extract tar from some tree barks. If you couod get some of that you can improve the wood resistance to bugs and moisture, rendering the roof more durable. Great video, a beautiful home!

As I understand it, if you burn the wood superficially it is protected against insects and the environment better than without anything. This way you could run a torch through the bottom to superficially burn the wood along the bottom of the roof to protect it better than without anything. On the upper part, I think you could apply some type of resin or latex to waterproof it better. All the best.

@19:08 You are looking up at the drip edge of your new roof. What I suggest is attaching half rounds of bamboo just under the edge of your new roof, to catch and direct the rain water to another area. To save the foundation from future water damage.

I recommend waterproofing the roof so that water would not enter in any way and the sun would not damage it. You can use cement, a layer about 3 cm thick.
