    I had two go’s at this one and failed to spot the 278 triple. Thank you for the video

      these hidden triples are always so easy to spot on an empty board, and so incredibly hard to spot once you've "biased" your vision with pencil marks

    Excellent solve. I need to rewatch this one to help my logic and scanning skills!

    That 278 triple was the linch pin for me. I didn't see it. Once I saw you get it the rest unlocked easily enough

    A nice puzzle; it took me almost three times as long as you. I'm definitely improving and nowadays there are seldom NYT(H) puzzles that I cannot solve - thanks to your methods.

    Thanks for the walkthroughs! After getting the middle band set up, I got stuck. I hadn't seen the 279 triple in c1. That got things flowing, especially when there ended up being a naked 8.

    I got stuck because I missed the 278 triple. Ironically, I solved it as I (eventually) found the 1469 quad in the same column!

      Same! Can't believe I missed the 278 -- was zooming through the puzzle then ground to a halt.

    Thanks for the video. I spent an hour plus and was at 6:46 in your vid. I’m still learning. I did the easy & medium easily.

    Whew! This was MUCH harder for me than any of the recent puzzles. There are enough comments that I'm not going to worry too much about spoilers.
    I got the second band from the get-go because of an NYT Trick starting in box 5. That put a 1,5,6,9 quad in the remaining cells of r4 and a 2,7,8 triple on r4 in box5. It also placed the 3,4 pair in box5. The rest of band 2 immediately falls out. Later on, I got the 2,4 par in box 9 after my usual corner-marking.
    Sadly, I missed the 2,7,8 triple in c1 -- and I think that really was the key to the entire solve. I got the quad, but didn't see that it removed 1 in r9c1. That means I didn't see the naked 8 there (r9c1) until I watched your solve. I also missed the claiming 6s in box 1, so I had extra sixes in the other cells of box 1. The result was that I stared at this puzzle forever and just couldn't make any headway. I looked for everything to no avail.
    With the hint provided by your solve, mine did solve pretty much directly once I had that 8 marked. My time was 88 minutes, with your help. I haven't had to spend that much time on an NYT sudoku in months.
    Thanks for the great solve, you are the master. :)

    I can complete the mediums all on my own now thanks to your guides, but I still struggle with the hard ones! I would've never gotten the part at 3:51, I was stuck for so long and had no idea what I wasn't seeing 😅

    As the hard sudoku has been the mainstay and attracts the highest viewing, I wondered if this could be posted first. Due to the time difference in England I recently haven't had the chance to access it later. I fully appreciate it is difficult to please everyone though and this is just my own circumstance.

      Recently, I haven't been able to record right when it comes out so I've been doing it a bit later. I don't schedule these videos, I release them as soon as I can.

    i dont understand why that very bottom left box cant contain a one or how that box box in the middle column couldn't contain a six. could someone further explain that hidden 278?

    I got the 24 pair really early, and then failed to spot that 7 which would have helped considerably! It was a fun puzzle though. Thanks :)

    I just started playing NYTimes sudoku last week. This was amazing. I wonder if your terminology (quad, triple, double, pointing, naked, etc.) are common in the sudoku community or your own? I wonder if you - or someone you know of - might have a primer so we can learn what / why / how stuff like a corner triple functions...?

    • @Rangsk
      @Rangsk  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The terminology I use is pretty standard across the Sudoku community. If you watch my daily solves of the Medium Sudokus I go over each of these techniques in much greater detail.
      I recently did a solve of the "Easy" Sudoku where I talk about the very basics: th-cam.com/video/sxfDdYvY0Kg/w-d-xo.html
      I also have an older series called "Learn to Love Sudoku" which is more of a direct series of lessons: th-cam.com/play/PL7B_esJLNuKP2gHklg9-vCxNzKmzOqgNT.html

    Do you ever strictly use the Snyder method? Is this one solvable by doing this? I would love to see that solve if so. I can do about 60% of these this way but today’s I could only get so far with the Snyder method alone.

    • @Rangsk
      @Rangsk  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think sticking to a strict notation for the sake of it isn't really ideal. Notation is there to help you in your solve, so you should be doing what works for you. Certainly learning how other notate and what options are out there is helpful, and you should be experimenting with those options to see what works for you and what of value you can extract from that, but ultimately everyone is going to have a solve style that suits their needs.
      For myself, I have trouble with visualization and some aspects of memory, so my marking style is designed to help me overcome those and set myself up for success.
