Not being able to help is one thing, not being able to help due to the threat of violence or arrest is another level. This was murder plain and simple and our system seemingly allows for this.
There are no words that can express the trauma these witnesses will live with for the rest of their lives. They tried their best to save a man's life and reason with those who were supposed to protect and serve.
Totally agree. I know how sickening and, dare I say, traumatizing it was to see that video on an iPad. My heart breaks for those witnesses, Floyd’s people and, of course, Floyd himself. Any thoughts as to why Chauvin wouldn’t move off the man’s neck? Personally, I don’t think they had personal beef & I wonder if Chauvin was being cocky & refused to move BECAUSE those people were telling him to. No matter the reason, chauvin murdered Floyd & will hopefully be convicted.

Just remember about 74% of American Firefighters are volunteer non federal or state pay and run on donations by the community itself not the government. So when you hear talk about firefighters remember they’re talking about the 30% not the 70% they’re talking about the NYC or San Francisco areas of great wealth and will invoke the term firefighters as if speaking of all of them for example the “Ppe” where do you think that money went to the 30 or 70%?
The fire fighter had to make Chavan move his knee off of George Floyd's neck when they arrived because he was still applying unnecessary pressureto his neck even though he had stopped moving and breathing. . They killed George Floyd.

I keep hearing from American firefighters that American police are not the kinds of people they like to mix with. They have different mentalities would seem to be the reason. One to serve the public and save people. The other to do whatever it is that the police appear to be doing.
Any time that Minneapolis cops detain a person in South Minneapolis an angry crowd gathers and starts yelling things at the cops. They yell "police brutality", they yell "let him go", if the restraint is robust they yell "you're killing that guy" . It really doesn't matter what the stop is for or how rough or not rough they are. So cops get pretty accustomed to disregarding whatever the bystanders are yelling, and/or assume that it's a lie. They mostly just monitor the crowd to be prepared for any danger to themselves from that direction. Chauvin Definitely committed murder in my opinion, but you have to understand that while some were yelling at the cops that Floyd couldn't breathe, they pretty much ALWAYS yell something like that, regardless of what's happening. To think that the other cops at the scene should have known Floyd was dying because of what the crowd was saying is foolish.
The fact that’s she’s in uniform testifying against others also in uniform all sworn to protect and help breaks my heart. Someone could have did the right thing that day by letting her help. Someone could have done the right thing by simply saying “enough let him up” . Nothing. Now we have to watch her cry and relive that day. That’s not right. It’s not fair.
If floyd wasn't in their police custody, she could've help as she pleases, BUT the real reason she can't cause floyd is arrested ppl, she knows better not to be involved, her lost is greater then the officer's

They saw her as ghetto the way he dressed that day and probably thought she hanging out with all those " bums on side walk" ( chauvin mind) so that automatically they did not want to listen or care what she had to say. They probably thought she was lying about that.

Perhaps they did believe her and didn't care. As she said, even if they wouldn't allow her to help him because of disbelief, they could have allowed her to talk them through the steps to save his life.
The reality she has no idea how to treat a drug OD. Naloxone is the only drug that could have saved him. Since he was an opioid junkie. But if you want to be honest the real people to blame are the politicians and the public who voted them in. To continue the war on drugs. But rather than take responsibility you point to one person and say that's the bad guy. And don't take any responsibility for your own actions.

For his breathing to be impared by opiods, he would have had to have just taken them. It impares you within a couple of minutes of just having taken them, almost immediately. No his breathing was a result of the weight on his neck and of course Naxalone could do nothing for that.

I'll bet she's been badly harassed at work since then too. EMTs are forced constantly to work with cops, they all know who she is, and even many of her own fellow firefighters are going to be part of the blue wall of silence. Her still being this passionate a year later proves those professions can still draw real heroes.

Idk about best testimony given that she kinda shot her self in the foot at the end with the defense when they proved her testimonial at the scene to be not credible. Seeing the crime and being there (she herself said it was 4 cops on duty when it was 3), hearing what the officers said (went back and said she couldnt hear what they said), telling them it was a short guy beforehand on the phone being harrassed by cops (George Floyd) and proving the defense right when they said that the cops called for emt. Though the prosecution team did do a good job at getting her narrative out and drawing emotions. Sorry, just really into the case (saw the full video). Im a big Better Call Saul fan lol
@@rrdream2400 I did watch it and given how erratic he was behaving and resisting, I could see given it's what the police are taught to do, so he used it. Also George was somehow still able to shout I can't breathe too which I thought was odd. Usually when a person is getting chocked (MMA), you have to tap given you cant talk at all.

She was wonderful that day. I watched this so many months ago. I remember as she approached, and identified herself. Even when they physically tried to prevent her from getting any closer to him, she kept demanding that they check his pulse. I kept thinking, "Thank God she is there. She will not let them get away with this."
As heartfelt as the teenagers were, I think the EMTs testimony was far more important, not just because it helped prove they didn't take Floyd's vitals, or allow them to be taken, but also to counter the sick us or them narrative around this incident. By showing a white person, one blocked from helping, in agony over that. To clearly show right and wrong. To indict her testimony, all the hate mongers can do is scream about her perceived disrespectfulness, call her a "lib", etc. They can't get away with the race baiting they're doing with the black witnesses.
She sounds like such a caring person . God bless her! She cried because unlike Derick Chauvis she had a good heart . My prayers go out to her , hope she heals from this trauma

Retired fireman of 21 years. I don't know how many times I had to boot a cop out of the back of my unit that was trying to get at a patient. Or a cop that was getting rough with someone that was having a diabetic emergency that the cops thought was intoxicated. Happens all the time.
We need to stop hiring the dumbest to become cops. They should be required to have a four year criminal justice degree that they have to pay for to become a cop.
A Canadian friend visited home in Nova Scotia after university - medium sized town, and the police chief was a family friend. He asked Andy if he was interested in joining the force because he was trying to reform the force. His comment was “Two kinds of people join the police force: those who genuinely want to serve the public, and bullies. I’m trying to weed out the bullies and want you to be a part of the future.” Fortunately Andy went on to become a marine biologist who is working on the forefront of reef preservation and restoration.

I'm just an average person with no medical training or background besides taking a CPR class in middle school. Even I would know to start CPR. Floyd was no longer a threat after he was passed out. What's the point of denying her access to someone who is unconscious? Malice.
Seeing the way her face instantly crumbled to tears when he asked, "Were you frustrated?" broke my heart. I can only imagine how horrible it feels to be forced on the sidelines when you know you could have prevented someone's death, something you're trained to do.

The thing few of us have faced the full truth about (too terrifying I guess) is the need to completely throw away any old paradigm which held that the police are "keepers of the peace", "protect and serve" the public, or really, anything other than an extremely violent gang of psychopaths. Their behavior makes that description impossible to deny. We the public, living under the conditions where this violent, bigoted gang is given a legal monopoly on violence, and legal cover for simply murdering people when they feel like it, need to take back control; these turds are sucking up our money as they terrorize our people. That means we're their bosses, not the other way around. We can, and should, fire them all and make the good ones reapply for the job with great scrutiny as to whether they were gang members or not. Plus the trauma of having to relive this moment seeing his murder and probably feeling the guilt knowing that she could’ve saved his life had they let her. I’m sure she partially, but shouldn’t, blames herself reliving that moment and saying if only this or if only that. It’s pretty common when people go through a trauma like that.
@@patrickh7695 It seems like a lot of the witnesses that have testified feel a sense of guilt because of what happened, though they aren't to blame. It's such a horrible situation.. so many bystanders helplessly watching as a man was killed on a public street. And what could they have done? I mean, we're all drilled to call the police in an emergency but what do you do if the police are the ones committing murder? It's absolutely despicable.
My dad, as a firefighter for 21 years, shed tears watching this. He has had people die in his hands while attempting to save them, and this haunts him everyday. Imagine being in the capacity to save someone's life but being prevented to do so, and as someone who vowed to do so, that hurt him so badly hearing her statement

I recently was in a plane and had a experienced that same feeling my son had to try to keep me as calm as possible! My heart, head and body was going crazy and the mask only made it worse! Most likely this medical professional will be lost to us. It is almost impossible to overcome the trauma of a situation like this if you feel you failed in your ability to help.

I worked as an EMT for 6 years and I can tell you EMTs and medics are some of the most caring compassionate people I ever worked with, they will pull over and help anyone in need whether it’s someone in need of medical attention or a lady on side of highway with a flat tire in the middle of nowhere.
Well I guess I need to move where you are because where I live the police, medics, firefighters , etc....are EXTREMELY unfriendly. My son as always loved all of the above and when we moved here they really scare him!!!

Had to climb out of an ambulance sick and in pain as they walked away leaving me behind. And of course same with the police. When I was scared for my life and needed help. They couldn’t of cared less and even lied on a report. Never met a caring emt. It’s sad when a child once looked up to them then to find disappointment. She was also off duty; she had no authority to disobey a police officers command. One thing they teach in the emergency services is that there is a chain of command they must adhere to. She did exactly the right thing. Sad that someone died but Chauvin was clear that no one was going to intervene.
As a firefighter/paramedic with 20 years on the job , I can say it’s a absolute world of emotional difference between showing up on scene to a person who is already in cardiac arrest and watching someone slowly die in front of your eyes ... and you not being able to do anything for them in their time of need.
@@ouroboros5224 For a fentanyl overdose, you just need to have that person continue to breath in some assisted way (using a pocket mask or your willingness to risk your own health safety without any safety equipment) till paramedics show up with Narcan and/or ventilation equipment ... However, a methamphetamine overdose can be more difficult to treat timely and effectively, even with the world at your disposal.

That agony is and will always be with her in a way that only those who also walk in her shoes can ever truly know or understand. Not that it makes a difference, but the headline says she was off duty. I live in CA so I do not know how it is in Minnesota. In CA if you are on duty you are legally responsible to act regardless of the police.

@@derrick2251 Yes, robbing people at gun point is very wrong and he deserved to be arrested for that. However, Floyd was not in the process of robbing anyone when he was arrested. The officer had control of him when he was cuffed. It was not necessary to put pressure on his neck even after the other officer certified that there was no pulse. And then to resist letting paramedics in is definitely murder. Just because he used drugs does not mean he deserved to die.

Yes. For me, hers is by far the most important testimony. There was someone present, on the scene who could have saved a life, and she was unable to even check for a pulse. No matter the intentions of any of those officers, refusing to even check Floyd was still alive, and refusing the assistance of a trained health care provider is all I’d need. That (in my unqualified position, I acknowledge) is enough for me to feel a verdict of Murder 2 is justified. I just think, even though it is so early, it would be so hard to get past that.

It is sad that her training is to save people and had they let her into the scene, she would've started chest compressions right away, it's sad when you watch the video and see the worry on her face as the police stood while one of them caused another human to die a agonizing death.
My heart broke for her. I cried right along with her. She's experiencing feelings of guilt. She will always have in the back of her mind that she might have been able to save him... if she was allowed the opportunity to help him that day.

As an Adult Family Home owner, I have utmost respect to our Firefighters/paramedics. I've seen how they work in an emergency situation and I was in awe of what I was witnessing. They work hard day in/day out. They are very professional. Thank you to all our Firefighters/ paramedics!

I didn't realize that there was someone with First Aid training on the scene that was offering to help and got turned away by the police. This is already a pretty outrageous event, but that just adds another layer to it. Genevieve Hansen seems like a decent and compassionate person, and it's really upsetting to hear her testimony.
And now we see why compliance to the police is such a vital part of the foundations of our CIVIL society.. Of course there are bad cops who abuse their power, but they were dealing with a KNOWN felon and he would be alive if he would have cooperated. He didn't cooperate because he knew he was about to go to jail. Any time that Minneapolis cops detain a person in South Minneapolis an angry crowd gathers and starts yelling things at the cops. They yell "police brutality", they yell "let him go", if the restraint is robust they yell "you're killing that guy" . It really doesn't matter what the stop is for or how rough or not rough they are. So cops get pretty accustomed to disregarding whatever the bystanders are yelling, and/or assume that it's a lie. They mostly just monitor the crowd to be prepared for any danger to themselves from that direction. Chauvin Definitely committed murder in my opinion, but you have to understand that while some were yelling at the cops that Floyd couldn't breathe, they pretty much ALWAYS yell something like that, regardless of what's happening. To think that the other cops at the scene should have known Floyd was dying because of what the crowd was saying is foolish.

Idk about best testimony given that she kinda shot her self in the foot at the end with the defense when they proved her testimonial at the scene to be not credible. Seeing the crime and being there (she herself said it was 4 cops on duty when it was 3), hearing what the officers said (went back and said she couldnt hear what they said), telling them it was a short guy beforehand on the phone being harrassed by cops (George Floyd) and proving the defense right when they said that the cops called for emt. Though the prosecution team did do a good job at getting her narrative out and drawing emotions. Sorry, just really into the case (saw the full video). Im a big Better Call Saul fan lol

As heartfelt as the teenagers were, I think the EMTs testimony was far more important, not just because it helped prove they didn't take Floyd's vitals, or allow them to be taken, but also to counter the sick us or them narrative around this incident. By showing a white person, one blocked from helping, in agony over that. To clearly show right and wrong. To indict her testimony, all the hate mongers can do is scream about her perceived disrespectfulness, call her a "lib", etc. They can't get away with the race baiting they're doing with the black witnesses.

Retired fireman of 21 years. I don't know how many times I had to boot a cop out of the back of my unit that was trying to get at a patient. Or a cop that was getting rough with someone that was having a diabetic emergency that the cops thought was intoxicated. Happens all the time.

Seeing the way her face instantly crumbled to tears when he asked, "Were you frustrated?" broke my heart. I can only imagine how horrible it feels to be forced on the sidelines when you know you could have prevented someone's death, something you're trained to do.

The thing few of us have faced the full truth about (too terrifying I guess) is the need to completely throw away any old paradigm which held that the police are "keepers of the peace", "protect and serve" the public, or really, anything other than an extremely violent gang of psychopaths. It's such a horrible situation.. so many bystanders helplessly watching as a man was killed on a public street. And what could they have done? I mean, we're all drilled to call the police in an emergency but what do you do if the police are the ones committing murder? It's absolutely despicable.
My dad, as a firefighter for 21 years, shed tears watching this. He has had people die in his hands while attempting to save them, and this haunts him everyday. I worked as an EMT for 6 years and I can tell you EMTs and medics are some of the most caring compassionate people I ever worked with, they will pull over and help anyone in need whether it’s someone in need of medical attention or a lady on side of highway with a flat tire in the middle of nowhere.
Well I guess I need to move where you are because where I live the police, medics, firefighters , etc....are EXTREMELY unfriendly. My son as always loved all of the above and when we moved here they really scare him!!!

She was also off duty; she had no authority to disobey a police officers command. One thing they teach in the emergency services is that there is a chain of command they must adhere to. She did exactly the right thing. Sad that someone died but Chauvin was clear that no one was going to intervene.

As a firefighter/paramedic with 20 years on the job , I can say it’s a absolute world of emotional difference between showing up on scene to a person who is already in cardiac arrest and watching someone slowly die in front of your eyes ... and you not being able to do anything for them in their time of need.
If you were walking down the street and saw a guy dying from a fentanyl and meth overdose what could you do?
@@ouroboros5224 For a fentanyl overdose, you just need to have that person continue to breath in some assisted way (using a pocket mask or your willingness to risk your own health safety without any safety equipment) till paramedics show up with Narcan and/or ventilation equipment ... However, a methamphetamine overdose can be more difficult to treat timely and effectively, even with the world at your disposal.

As a physician myself I can tell you for all providers of medical care including First Responders the agony of knowing in our hearts we could have done more for our patients and perhaps saved a life but were unable to even try for whatever reason haunts us all forever.
My heart goes out to this woman who tried to make a difference but could not. That agony is and will always be with her in a way that only those who also walk in her shoes can ever truly know or understand.

The officer had control of him when he was cuffed. It was not necessary to put pressure on his neck even after the other officer certified that there was no pulse. And then to resist letting paramedics in is definitely murder. Just because he used drugs does not mean he deserved to die.

Yes. For me, hers is by far the most important testimony. There was someone present, on the scene who could have saved a life, and she was unable to even check for a pulse. No matter the intentions of any of those officers, refusing to even check Floyd was still alive, and refusing the assistance of a trained health care provider is all I’d need. That (in my unqualified position, I acknowledge) is enough for me to feel a verdict of Murder 2 is justified. I just think, even though it is so early, it would be so hard to get past that.

I feel for her. She will forever remember this incident. Just knowing that she could have saved George if the cops just let her. How dare that cop deny her to do her job of saving lives. The thought of knowing you could have but was denied to just hurts.
It is sad that her training is to save people and had they let her into the scene, she would've started chest compressions right away, it's sad when you watch the video and see the worry on her face as the police stood while one of them caused another human to die a agonizing death.
My heart broke for her. I cried right along with her. She's experiencing feelings of guilt. She will always have in the back of her mind that she might have been able to save him... if she was allowed the opportunity to help him that day.

As an Adult Family Home owner, I have utmost respect to our Firefighters/paramedics. I've seen how they work in an emergency situation and I was in awe of what I was witnessing. They work hard day in/day out. They are very professional. Thank you to all our Firefighters/ paramedics!

With all due respect, nurses don't see people getting murdered everyday. Covid is a disease. Nurses will see people die with various diseases, yes, it's a horrible thing but it's kind of in the job description. George Floyd was murdered in front of people who didn't have the professional training to even process what they were seeing. There were kids there. Perhaps this firefighter was in the best position to be a witness due to her background but most other witnesses were clearly traumatized. Again, nothing against nurses, and of course they should also be able to see psychologists but I don't think that's really relevant in a discussion about a crime scene.

Idk about you but I would not let her near a man who was resistaning arrest for near forty minutes, with three times the leathal dose of fentnayl in his system. EMTs have to wait until pd gives an all clear so that they themselves are not injured, the officer was doing his job to protect her.

He was put in the back of an ambulance when they found that he had no pulse, he died on the way to the hospital.

I didn't realize that there was someone with First Aid training on the scene that was offering to help and got turned away by the police. This is already a pretty outrageous event, but that just adds another layer to it.

And now we see why compliance to the police is such a vital part of the foundations of our CIVIL society.. Of course there are bad cops who abuse their power, but they were dealing with a KNOWN felon and he would be alive if he would have cooperated. He didn't cooperate because he knew he was about to go to jail. If you watch the vid he kept ranting about, "Don't shoot me officer.." because that's what people do to make things look a certain way to onlookers. If you ain't from the city then you've never seen anything like this in person.
