When I was a school kid (11 or 12) commuting with the train, similar situations happened to me. I was always on my own when these weirdos sat down on the bench next to me all too close and talked me up and I was scared for my life. Once I hid in the bushes and another time ran back to school (1 km) without ever stopping or looking back. The creep wanted to show me a girl in his basement that looked like me and I really thought he was going to grab or kill me. As a grown up I would always intervene, because I've been there myself.

    @PhlegmaticAbsentee 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    This is the Bystander Effect:
"The bystander effect occurs when the presence of others discourages an individual from intervening in an emergency situation, against a bully, or during an assault or other crime.
The greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is for any one of them to provide help to a person in distress."
It's a big problem. A way to overcome it in emergency situations is to address people directly instead of indirectly calling out for help.
Like "HEY, you with the red jacket, YES I mean you! CALL the police NOW!"
People are much more likely to help, when you call them out directly and they feel like they can't just duck away.

When I was 4 years old, I was nearly abducted. I was on a busy shopping street with my mother when I realized that I had lost one of my gloves and began crying hysterically. My mom noticed the missing glove on the ground just a few feet away. She instructed me to stay put and turned around to retrieve it. At that moment, a stranger suddenly grabbed my hand and pulled me into the crowd. He muttered words meant to reassure me (though I don't remember what he actually said) as I was still extremely upset about losing my favorite glove. Luckily, my mother found us after a short while.

There is even a chance that he gets beaten up, depending on who is around. Especially if he starts argueing when he is told to go away, as he does in the video. Compared to the US, we Germans don't really fear to be shot right on the spot in such a conflict.
And I guess the avarage crimes in the US is that more violent you wouldn't notice these scenes shown on that show. There is just too much distraction and expectation.
But the courage of Germans got lower the years, because the violence in crime raised and this is an enless circle. Because fewer people step in less people have the courage to step in because there were people that didn't survived that situation. The media made a big deal about it and made the victims for heroes, but still the schock is high and it's just so much easier to look away. You will get a low sentence for it or maybe you can defend yourself you didn't notice or you were not physically able to help against you can end in hospital or be dead... 3:57 She said "Ich habe mich gerade mit dem Gedanken rumgeschlagen". It's not the best German, but the correct translation would be "I have just been struggling with the idea". The stupid "AI" program misheard "ungeschlagen" instead of "rumgeschlagen", which would actually translate to "undefeatead". Real intelligence would have notice that this doesn't make sense in this context.

Experiments like that are pretty risky here in Germany. Kids are considered like the are sacred, since they are our future. If I would notice a Situation like that, I would be in anger pretty quickly and the weirdo should run. If he would start a second try after I suggested him to leave, I would make him leave. I could not stand and watch if I see a defenseless person gets bothered, especially if it is a child. Such guys are disgusting.

The boldness is the main issue with tests like this, it's too unreal a situation, which is making things hardernfor the ones who dont act.
And the kidnapper too, going out of his was to argue and look people in the face, that's just not real and causes cognitive dissonance, leading to inhibition.
Which is why they set it up like this, of course.

    Thats the problem of gender-blaming...
A creepy old guy maybe is the "oh no a kid-abuser"-protoptye, but what happens if it is a nice looking young guy
    or even a young woman?
    Nobody would do anything.
And what if the creepy old guy is the one who is the nice grandpa(of course not with the words used in the docu)
,but gets aggression cause he COULD be the bad guy.
And why u should do anything, if the kids doesn´t say anything like "I dont want, dont touch me..."?
There are many spoiled kids who doesn´t do what the mother wants...
