Well done mate. Great catch. Thank you for not breaking the legs/tips off the undersized ones. They don't survive when their tips are recklessly broken! Keep up the good work.
Great vid mate.. As a former commercial operator I once had a 'dig' at Paul for telling everyone how to find them in one of his reports , I believe his words were "It's easy , just follow the pros" .. Don't get me wrong , it was all nice and friendly. Iv'e ripped harder on him for boat handling skills but that's another story. He's a cool bloke. thanks for the upload , keep em coming
Hi Lui, welcome anytime mate. I use 75 mtrs rope on each pot and I use 1.2 mtrs of rope between 2 x 150mm floats ( minimum size floats ) mark your pot at it hits the bottom.
@@dougburtstackleworldgoldcoast awesome! Thank you for the detailed information. Lucky to get two traps at the shop today. Will try it when the weather is good. Cheers!
Hi doug, just wondering do you think 70L of fuel on a jet ski is enough to get to the spanner crab ground? I often go fishing at 24F and my fuel never goes below half(including return).
Hi mate, it’s not much further south then the Daimond reef. I’m not sure how much fuel Jetskis use but I’m guessing you carry a spare 10 ltrs just in case mate
Dougie Burt’s Fishing Channel if the wind dies down I think I know what I’ll be doing then 😂 mrs normal bugs me for mud crabs, this might change her mind now hahaha
HI mate I'm from The sunny coast around Gympie area would love to learn more would I find these crabs around double island point? If you need a hand One day pop down your email address and I will be more than happy to drive down to help and learn. Great video mate
Hi, I’m not sure of your area but I do know that they catch spanner crabs as far north as 1770. You sure be able to find them between Noosa and Double island point in around 35 to 50m deep but on sand and not reef. Thank you for the nice comment.
Hi Anthony, I have heard of the Spanner crabs off 1770 and even Curtis island, so maybe they are there but you would have to try to find them in that 35-50 mtr depth on the sand
There not even tangled why are you snapping the feet. Us professional crater would get in a lot of trouble if the fisheries seen this. Plus it kills the under size crab not sustainable
99% of the time unless by accident I never intentionally break if legs😉, but I have seen some horrid things done by other fishos and pros with Spanners👌

Hi Doug!
Thanks for the awesome videos!!!
Great video mate, like to see you do one on mud crabs from the gold coast or even summer whitting. Great work keep the video’s coming
Hi Jason, yes will do when the season starts mate
Nice vid Doug - is that your wife's Black Pepper crab recipe in the shots from your birthday dinner at the end of the clip?
Does it matter which side up the bait bag sits on the bottom?
Thanks for sharing Doug

Hi Dougie, Are you on sand or reef bottom when catching these tasty critters ? Great job & vid. Enjoyed it a lot...
you catch them on sand bro
@@joeprinsen1717 Thanks man......
Hey mate does it help to weigh them down as well? Do they move much from the mark without being weighted?
Hi Corey, yes it definitely is important to weight them down with a house brick or similar at this time of the year mate.
How far is it from the shore?
About 8-10km east of the beach.

could take a little more time detaching them mate, you're napping legs off most of the throwbacks. Otherwise good video
Sadly we don’t get these off Yeppoon. A lot like Mackerel or Cobia the waters off Yeppoon are too barren to support a healthy ecosystem
