Hashtag United are a one-of-a-kind football and esports club, based in Essex, England. Formed in 2016 by Spencer Owen as a group of mates playing exhibition games, we now play in the 7th tier of English football, the Isthmian League North. We won our league in our first season in non-league football and were looking good for a second promotion when the 2019/20 season was voided, but after the 2020/21 season went the same way with us top of the Essex Senior League, we were eventually awarded promotion based on PPG over the two part seasons. In 2023 we won the Isthmian League North and will now play in the Isthmian Premier!
We merged with AFC Basildon Women in summer 2020 and formed our women's team, Hashtag United FC Women, who play in the 3rd tier of women's football, the FA Women's National League Southern Premier Division, after they also won their league in 2023. We also now have 40+ youth teams, reserve and development teams, an inclusive team and a walking football team...plus our esports team who play FIFA at the world's highest level. This division is definitely a massive jump compared to the ones that hashtag United were in prior to this one. Will take at least until 2025 or 2026 I think to see hashtag in national league south
This isn’t fifa. Teams don’t just jump through the leagues. Hashtag have just hit a league that is genuinely competitive and a decent standard, and so far barring the last few weeks are holding their own. They won’t go down, they won’t go up, they’re just consolidating and finding their feet
I wouldn’t be too sure they won’t go down. The way they are defending they may not win another game all year

Was thinking the same. Sammo just got outpaced and outmuscled. Personally feel Wooldridge wouldve dealt with that. Guessing he was benched as not fit? Maybe im wrong

We need a better deffender
Sometimes when a defence is out of form they make mistakes because they’re trying too hard to make up for it and you feel bad for them. Can’t say that about the Tags defence at the moment , they genuinely look like they’re not bothered at times. Pedestrian.

As someone who doesn't often comment, I feel the quality of the squad this season is so varied. It seems like 45% are capable at this level while the other 55% just don't seem ready... Something that has stuck out to me this whole season is the lack of decisiveness when finishing, there is always an extra touch, always a slight delay, and always enough time for the other teams defenders to get in position. Will keep supporting, hoping they iron things out.
I’d like to acknowledge two players who have been fantastic in these times of turmoil Camilo Restrepo and Pedro. Pedro has shown so much spirit running up and down the wings to attack and defend and Camilo has been a spark with his creativity if it weren’t for them I’d be terrified rn

Randall is not up to it, have been trying to see where it goes wrong. And his agilty is just not there nor is his pace. I know ufua is fast but cmon you had a 10 meter head start...

Thanks to the players for coming over to us after the game. As for the game … we’ll see the second goal and tell me we don’t need new players in order to be okay. I’ve watched this level for a number of years and I know how expensive and hard it is

Must be playing hurt. For him to not start when we cant afford to keep this streak going speaks volumes.
Defence has really fallen apart since Ted Curd was recalled. It was always going to be tough but there’s no doubting their commitment. Devs’ experience and knowhow is proving valuable during this difficult period.
it wasn't Ted Curd it was when Tommo got a stupid red card and is suspended for 3 games and haysom looks lost as Jay Randle doesn't have the authority or defensive recovery like Tommo had

That second one was not a yellow, very soft by the referee.
I was at that game, and.....it was just one of those days! The early goal in the first 30 seconds was a real kick in the nuts, but we did come back well from it, had a few chances of our own and looked to be getting back into the game....then we conceded the second and what was already an uphill battle became a mountain to climb.
Combine that with a big crowd (Hastings' biggest crowd of the season) of over 2,500 people behind them, coupled with (it has to be said) a rather dodgy pitch, it was always going to be difficult afternoon.
But, hey....like I said to Alfie when we were chatting in the bar at the end of the game, realistically, the goal this season was always to not get relegated and stay in this league, and we are on course to do just that.
The people who expect us to win every game and get promoted every season (or worse, calling for Devs to get sacked) are either deluded, or just don't understand _how tough_ this league actually is! This league ain't no pushover, and the fact that we've been within touching distance of the playoffs for most of the season shows what an amazing job Devs is actually doing. Yeah, we're in a rough patch of form right now, but this is where we need to show our support the most.
Personally, I'm just disappointed that you didn't show my beer getting yeeted into the shadow realm by a perfectly aimed wayward shot at the end of the second half! That got the biggest cheer of the day lol!

Randall doesnt look like he's up to pace unfortunately. Halford's experience and game management would have been vital here.

Halford barely looks bothered when he's out there at this point, plus his legs look completely gone. Defending as a whole is a massive issue at the moment. They need a complete overhaul at the back.

It’s crazy to see how quickly this team has dropped in quality since Ted has left. He made that defense look like they were one of the best in the league.

Staying in this league will be a great achievement. Think some people need to temper their expectations and sort themselves out. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but when it is backed up by no fact then it doesn't look good. Well done hashtag and keep it up!

Really tough times for the team, I hope the players keep their heads up. Better times will come. Having said that, too many cards are being conceded. Mistakes happen, but getting sent off is rarely a mistake. That has to improve to give the morale of the team a chance.
Hard to be positive when the team aren’t performing well but just have to keep going. Only so many times you can keep saying when the lucks against you though.
I was at the game and it was my first time seeing the boys live. Super proud of the effort! One thing that the video doesn’t get across is just how noisy the Hastings fans were. They were almost deafening!
Looking forward to seeing the boys turn the results around. I will see them again at Lewes away 👍🏻

Another tough loss and painful to watch. Can't fall behind early in the game,boys!
Was still in that corner of the ground at kickoff so had a great view of their 1st goal and even with my Hashtag bias I didn't think it was a foul on our defender unfortunately.
After that 1st goal and couple of other scares we seemed to deal with their man and his pace well, pushing him wide to stop his runs through, just unfortunately switching off for that one moment that let him through for their sceond goal.
Credit to Hastings has to be grudgingly given too. You could tell they'd done their homework on us, keeping us off our left wing for huge portions of the game thereby stifling our best creativity that comes from Nathan and Sak, while trying to exploit our weaker right side of defence when they could.
The red card then killed the game and that did look very soft from where I was standing.
A positive: I believe that second half was our first 45 minute shut out since the first half at Dulwich which I thought was a good achievement with ten men and the form we've been in.

That excuse is fine if we were sitting 18th 5 games into the season. But we were challenging for top 4, it'd be like if Girona lost their next 10 games and everyone went 'oh well they're newly promoted so good job them for getting some wins'. Fuck no it's not a good job, you've shown you're way better than this. Being newly promoted isn't an excuse for the piss poor attitudes of a bunch of the players.

Randalls lack of pace isnt the only problem though its also his poor positioning. Been a problem each game he has played; doesnt matter the pace, still same result
We needed pk in this game on the offensive side. The chemistry between him and Pedro, and starboy is rlly good

I was at the match. Hashtag looked much smaller then Hastings, they were being out muscled. It looked like men against boys sometimes. On a muddy old field like that you need big tractors running about, not electric scooters.

I like toby as a player, probably their best player this season but after leaving his team half way through a tough season to go back on a reality tv dating series really doesn’t scream ‘proper work ethic’ or ‘discipline’

This game looked like what it feels to play my older brother in FIFA... the heart definitely feels like it's missing.. no one is a leader at the moment. Once again our defense is not up to it. Onto the next
Everyone keeps commenting on the defense struggling lately, but nobody is seeing that our midfield is providing them no cover whatsoever. We're essentially playing 1CM with 2CAM's, we're really missing PK & Max, the impact they have on ball retention & coverage is really understated.
Comments show how stupid most of the fans are tbh, very little ball knowledge. With the midfield set up the way we have it, we should be pressuring the middle of the park and not even allowing heaps of the set up balls that they play through. Instead they completely ran the middle of the park and had acres of space. What are our 2 slowest defenders meant to do against their fastest player when a ball gets played over the top? It's just poor game management from Devs and poor pressure from our midfield to allow it to happen at all.

Tough season but there's a big step up in quality from Step 4 to Step 3. Been a meteoric rise through the leagues so far but it was always going to slow down. Need to establish yourselves as a Step 3 club and build

Commenting at half time, defense hasnt given up alot of chances, however the chances conceded i think just need to be dealt with better. Offensively we dont look terrible, but we really should have at least 1 goal. Cmon boys UP THE TAGS

Refs have such a hard job, especially at this sort of level and I think the ref had a good game, but he had such a good view of the multiple kicks into a players stomach area while he is on the floor, that has to be a red card every time
I mean if one long ball to a fast attacker splits your defense open like that you have to lower your defensive line to protect yourself. That second goal was ridiculously easy..

People thinking Halford would have had pace to deal with these strikers are silly… if your on a bad run of form you go back to basics tactically. Hastings are a good football side. You get behind the ball. Very simple. You don’t try to press in their own third. Childish tactics. Managerial error.
