Very nice and helpful deconstruction! I will recommend this to my students. Full of great ideas; I especially like the idea of the dividing a poem into "chunks" that can provide a loose structure for an essay or oral. However, I am not sure the word "paranoia' is accurate. Certainly the mother has strong, even irrational fears about the baby dying, an exaggerated vision of the baby's fragility. But this is not "paranoia," is it, which is usually about a cynical view of the motivations of others? Also, I love the suggestion about powerful adjectives in the thesis, but there are not examples of this in this particular thesis; I'd love to see an example. Those who watch this presentation should remember: You may or may not fully agree with all interpretations in such a presentation (I, for instance, see the greyish-white, scarred breast as colder, less positive than this educator, and I would stress more the way she sees the child like a sort of alien presence), but that's fine. There are no right answers in literary analysis, just good justifications. If you can make a plausible, developed explanation of your interpretation, including concise and relevant quotations, plus commentary to support what you see going on in terms of the poet's purpose or the effect on the reader, you'll do fine!
Many thanks for your comments. I'd agree with your points; the key is that the students can justify their ideas or opinions with close references to the text. I certainly take your point that there are no fully 'right' or 'wrong' answers with this kind of thing, that's what makes it so fascinating!
An excellent guide to the Cambridge IGCSE Paper 3. Very clear explanations and evidently, you also have a good understanding of the exam technique.
So helpful for my unseen tomorrow!
In the same boat. Good luck!
