I knew my family was stuck in medieval times with their religion, but this video made me realize how much.
My father believed you should only name a child after saints (or otherwise holy people since my namesake was only considered venerable at the time) because what was the point otherwise. And since he grew up celebrating feast days, we celebrated every feast day of mine, including my first name and two middle names. This fact actually factored into my decision on what name to take for my confirmation.

In the Netherlands, and maybe other countries too, it is common for catholic people to give their children three names; all of them referring to catholic saints; either their Roman names or the Dutch-ified version of that. The daily given name will usually be based on the first of these 3 names; or in other words, the first official name in the passport will be the saint or other Roman name that the given name traces it's roots back to.
The second and third names might be referring to both grandfathers (for boys) or grandmothers (for girls). It is also pretty common that the last name is 'Maria' even for boys. Some people even have 4 or 5 given names.
My first names (written in full in my passport) are Johannes Theodorus Franciscus. My given name Hans originates from Johannes. My father's father was Theo which comes from Theodorus and my mother's father was Frans which comes from Franciscus.
My father is Alfonsus Henricus Maria. His given name is Fons, Henricus I think refers to one of his grandfathers, and Maria of course the standard catholic wildcard.
My wife even has 5 names. The 2nd and 3rd names refer to her grandmothers, 4th name to an aunt that died as a teenager and the 5th is Maria again.

My first name, Roni, means "be happy" or "my happiness" in Hebrew (My family is Jewish) and my middle name, Claire, is after my mom's great aunt (my mother was named after her grandma, while I took the name of her grandma's sister as my middle name) who was Sephardi-Turkish.

in my country, romania, we still use second names as saint's names. although you can skip that if your first name is a saint name. my second name is a saint name and there are a lot of andrews and alexanders and maria's after the saints.

Major in Chinese culture and language here: I'd really like to see the sources used for the part on Chinese names. The majority of Chinese names stretching back to 3000 years ago have been a single character for the surname and two characters as the given name. In ancient times many people of higher status had a name given by their parents (名), a name given by others (字)and a name they chose for themselves (號)The only time someone's name would be a single character in ancient China was when their surname had two characters. Sima Qian is a very famous example of that. There are exceptions but the standard for most people even today is single character family name and double character name. It's only over the last few decades single character first names have gained popularity, which are seen as kind of trendy. Many traditional families will pick names for a whole generation of kids based on their ancestors naming pattern. So in a family all the aunts and uncles (from one side) have the same first character, and a different second character. Eg : 德清 Deqing, 德鑫 Dexin, 德偉Dewei etc. The next generation might then be 嘉威Jiawei, 嘉榮Jiarong, 嘉熹Jiaxi etc.

The pronunciation of those Chinese names was really terrible. Please reach out to native speakers for help if you're struggling. Li = Lee in Mandarin. I really love your videos and watch them all, but if you're going to choose names you're unfamiliar with as examples, please try to say them correctly. Mispronouncing names is disrespectful.

I am Romanian. My first name, Andreea, comes from the apostle, since mom found out she was pregnant with me on his day, in Romanian Orthodoxy it's 30th November. My middle name Corina was the same as my godmother's. I use the middle one more since Andreea (along with the masculine Andrei) is a terribly common first name in Romania.

My family usually choose the babies' names by a raffle... We write the names we like on a piece of paper, put them in a jar then someone goes to pick one or two of the papers and that's it... That's the baby's name. 😂 We do this when the parents are unable to agree on the name (and for some reason, it happens most of the times), and the name that comes out of the jar can't be changed 😂

I normally go by my nickname "l'utick" in a day to day life - it is Russian for "butter-cup".
My official name has eastern or Asian origin and means something like "big body of water".
My folks had different reasons to name me...
Dad wanted to call his first daughter like his grandma - she had a terrible temper and was feared by some in the family.
My mom loved the name cause then the full name would be similar to one of a highly charming movie character. The problem is - movie is called "The Road to Calvary".

My mom wanted to name me Wanda Carol but dad didn't really like it so he suggested Juanita because he worked with someone named Juanita and it was close to Wanda. Then 4 1/2 years later when my brother was born dad who believed Juanita meant ' little John' said we have a little John now we need a big John, so my brother was named after me! Also, when I was in the military and arrived at a new base a lot of people were almost mad at me because it seems that they would bet on what a person looked like according to their name! Most bet Hispanic, but I'm Irish/Norwegian so blonde hair blue eyes! Lol

In Hispanic countries we use our mother's maiden name as part of our last name, it's not our middle name.
For example, if you are named Ana Carolina, and your dad is Juan Perez and your mom is Maria Lopez, you would fill papers the following way:
    Paternal Last name: Perez
    Maternal Last Name: Lopez
    Name: Ana
    Middle Name Carolina
And if you filled papers in the US, for example, you would do it this way:
    Last name: Perez Lopez
    First name: Ana
    Middle name: Carolina
Now all this gets harder when a woman gets married and if, like me, you have a composite name and/or last name (which are very common in Spanish).

I’m the only person I’ve ever known who has five middle names. One is my chosen Catholic confirmation name, which I’m surprised you haven’t mentioned here. My name is Gabrielle but I won’t mention all of my names because there isn’t a single person on this planet who has my full name. One of my middle names is May which was passed down five generations on my mother’s side beginning with my great-great aunt May who died as a little girl, so great grandma honoured her in her daughter’s middle name, and then it became tradition and my only daughter’s middle name is May. All of my other middle names are saints names.

My name is Mallory, my mom is a big book reader and was reading the novel "The Fountainhead". There was a charater named Steven Mallory who was a sculptor. That my mom really loved this character and his name. My mom was told I was suppose to be a boy so Steven would have been my first name and Mallory my middle name. But to the surprise of everyone I was a girl. So Mallory became my first name. I was dressed as "boy" early on cause that she had prepared for a son.
Also fun note my mom had her tubes tied, and it reversed its self. So theres a 16 year difference between me and my older sisters. As well I have a brother Steven who was born a year after me. Were irish twins so were the same age for about a month.
As well from a little research I found my name is suppose to be french and sadly means unlucky...🤭 oh well, I like my name.
