    Truly a work of art. Could have been a little longer though, I really wanted to soak in more information about this very interesting, important subject from this wise man. Chef Steve, you are my hero.

    Great video. Though I am an "outdoorsy" guy, I always roll my eyes at the super intense survivalists who make these kinds of videos. Nice to see a "normal" lighthearted and informational video. Great resource 👍

    Thank you Chef! Very informative. Your videos aren't flashy unlike other content creators. I'm new to foraging so this helps.

    I hope you do more foraging videos this spring, this was great and I'm local to you so this is extra helpful!
    If not, this was fun. Thanks!

      I indeed am going to make a number of videos this year, particularly seeing as I think I have finally gotten a good knowledge of using iMovie. I am just finishing a black walnut tapping video and am making a bee swarm catching video as well. I will be doing more on mushrooms this year as well.

      Yeah, they are doing the same to mine. They are incredibly invasive. Only good thing about them is that they are delicious lol

    In Quebec, you can only harvest 25 Ramps (wild leeks) per person, per year. Any more and you'll get in some trouble. :)

    • @lasanthijaya9626
      @lasanthijaya9626 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you plant them in your yard and let them grow wild and pick those though?

    • @aliciarichardson3908
      @aliciarichardson3908 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lasanthijaya9626 i follow a man in Quebec who's a PhD Ecologist and has his own land. Even he said he cant harvest more than 50 in a total year. I don't know how the government regulates it's though. A quick Google search and you can find more info. :)

      You are just south of me.....in a great area to forage. I wish I had the time to bring more folks out but am stretched between my businesses and teaching at Conestoga. There are at least a dozen easily identifiable, (in other words you cannot mix them up with something poisonous) edibles in our neck of the woods. I would start there along with getting a good mushroom field guide and also scouring the web for more localized videos (similar to mine). There is a great young man out of Pennsylvania who has a TH-cam channel called “learn your land”. His videos are incredibly informative and he speaks in a very understandable way for the beginner. The videos are free on TH-cam.....and if you wish to spend a bit of money he has an online course (it’s not cheap) that is supposed to be top notch. Good luck and if you have any questions you can send me a post on Facebook under “steven allen” or my business FB account “Little Louies burger joint and Soupery / Lily Ruth catering

      Thx for the comment. As I continue to make more videos I am developing a better understanding of “info” combined with the entertainment of it. I am finishing up a mushroom video now and will do another more intensive spring one in the new year

      There’s a good book for general foraging called “eating wild in eastern Canada”. Another very good one for mushrooms is the “national Audobon society field guide to mushrooms”

    • @chefstevenallen6095
      @chefstevenallen6095  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just be careful that wherever you pick them from hasn’t been treated with herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizer.

    so where is the best place to go mushroom huntin for morels and best time of year? would love to go hunting.

    • @chefstevenallen6095
      @chefstevenallen6095  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m guessing you are in Ontario? Basically you are looking for oaks and elms to look under however they pop up under other trees as well. Beginning of spring when the temp hits mid teen numbers after a good few rains. That heat wave back in April followed by rains and cold just before heating up again really caused a spectacular morel flush this year. As for where? Any public hiking trail, field or wooded area has potential.

    • @7burnitdown
      @7burnitdown 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chefstevenallen6095 Yup I'm in Kitchener. would love to go out with you hunting for em next year maybe. Is that it for them this year then or can you still find some in may?

    • @chefstevenallen6095
      @chefstevenallen6095  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@7burnitdown you can still find some if you are lucky. This rain coming may produce another flush however it is near the end of the normal season for them. They popped really early this year along with most other things. The dryads saddle were late though
