There are so many because the beach would get jam packed, blanket to blanket on summer weekend days. Everybody used them. Not much if any litter on the beach back then. People had pride and self respect.

Completely agree. Alot of jones beach still looks like this. Especially the natural un paved areas like the beach.
My favorite place on the entire planet. In all it's splendor and beauty. As a kid in just how i remember it. Thank You.
My step-sister, 15 years older and with 2 girls then loved Jones Beach. I never got to go.
I've mostly only been in the winter...to like beach comb and etc. it's pretty nice, tho, year-round. Worth going if you ever do get the chance.
