The spymasters take turns giving 1 word clues to their team of operatives, with the goal being to guess all of the cards of their team's color. The operatives can't see the card colors, so they're guessing just based on the clues they're given. The number with each clue is how many cards correlate to that clue or how many cards the spymaster thinks the operatives can guess. If they guess a card that isn't theirs then the turn is over, and if the card belongs to the other team then that team gets the point. If it's a neutral/beige card then nothing happens, but if they guess the black card then the game is over and they lose. You win by being the first team to guess all of the cards of your color. It's kinda confusing at first but you get the hang of it once you start playing/watching.
