Hi Alex & James! Love the video 😊 I was wondering if you drove in Hokkaido or caught tour bus/van or public transport. Just trying to plan your winter Hokkaido trip but was unsure about the travel aspect of it. Thank you in advance!
The forest guide is explaining that a deer ate the tree bark and the tree died unfortunately. This actually has been quite a bit of an issue especially in Shiretoko. Since the area was registered as a natural heritage site, animal hunting, for any purpose, has been restricted, which is causing the growth of the deer population-Local hunters used to be control the number more easily by hunting some down periodically to protect the trees. Aging of the hunters and lack of successors are aggravating the problem ever more😢
Hi guys! My wife and I are really keen to explore the Shiretoko region in winter as well but aren't too experienced with driving in heavy snow. We're looking to hire a driver for some of the areas less well perfused by public transport May we enquire where you guys hired your driver from and if you'd mind sharing his/his company's contact information? Thank you! :)
Good on ya guys! The reason why it’s so quiet in the winter in Hokkaido is the snow absorbs the surrounding noise.
That’s so interesting! We honestly had such a memorable time and experience. A vacation we’ll never forget!
That looked amazing! You are right James, the saying is 'happy wife, happy life'! Definately adding winter in Hokkaido to our bucket list.

Why the masks?
Japan adopted wearing masks long before the global pandemic. It’s an entirely normal accessory to wear out and about 🙏🏼
