Cycling makes me happy, my bikes make me happy. If an upgrade makes you smile, go for it. Very much like your videos, keep them coming. Mid 60's folding fan.
I bought my original 6sp Brompton in 2003-yes and it was equipped on special order with a titanium front fork, seat post and rear triangle. It was a special order from Curbside Cycle in Toronto. I still love it and recommend going for it. It has been a brilliant bike. You will notice the weight saving but as crucially the ride is less harsh than with full steel. Good luck. It has been the best bike I have ever owned.
Greetings from Singapore! Thanks for sharing how your Brompton has worked well for you. I am blessed to have two models, a vintage 3 speed (2002 model) and a current 6 speed. I’ve taken them everywhere - commute to work, flown with me overseas when I travel for holidays etc. Not once have they given me any issues. Best bicycles I’ve had!
Lovely bike! Nice to see one that's been down a lot of (sometimes bad) road lol. Mine is a C6 high handlebar and black lacquer and I have the tele seat post. It's only 2 years old and lives in dry Los Angeles so it has a pretty easy life haha. The only mods I've done are Brompton/Cateye battery lighting and Continental Contact Urban tires (oh, and the smaller chain ring), and that's all she needed in my book. It's a brilliant bit of engineering and very fun to ride, and I can toss it in the back seat of my car if I'm going anywhere interesting. I love it. Good luck with the next steps on yours - cheers for the vid.
Great video. Definitely worth it for a few reasons. Firstly you love the Brommie so much and the pleasure you get from it. Secondly, it's part of the ongoing maintenance and improvements. Thirdly, it is sustainable, keeping an old bike going compared to getting a new one. Things like bottom brackets are consumables and need replacing every few years, I put the Shimano one on mine and it's great. One thing that you mentioned as 'bling' is actually a consumable too and needs replacing every few years: the frame hinge clamps. Apparently the gap is crucial and it is a safety issue. It was news to me. Imagine the frame coming apart at speed. Very unlikely but it's there written down. I replaced mine with standard Brompton black ones for safety not bling and like everything else bought them from Brilliant Bikes. Lots of folk buying aftermarket bling clamps and yes they may look nice but are they safe? Brilliant Bikes also do great TH-cam videos fronted by Hannah and give great instructions on how to fit stuff. Outtakes are funny too.
Hi, thanks for sharing. I didn’t know about the hinge clamps! Interesting. I’ll speak to them when I drop the bike off 👍 Yes there you tube videos are great!
@@veloworks9266 yes it was news to me too but now on my maintenance list. The leaflet from Brompton with the clamp is very specific and very obvious when you see it. They are only £7 each and peace of mind for £14 is priceless
Brompton build like a tank. I have one also im loving it. When I’m going for touring or leisure ride if I’m tired going back. I rode to commute by folding it.
Hi, Thanks for watching. This bikes been with me for almost 10 years and I am super attached to it and it has decades left in it so i'd not consider selling it.
Looks great Paul. I guess owning a Brompton can get a bit like “Trigger’s Broom” 5 new heads and 3 new handles. They’ll just be the frame left of the original bike. Still worth it though.
I wish I can have my rear triangle and front fork changed to titanium. The issue will be the the paint job. I own the Brompton Nine Streets edition so, it's a little troublesome trying to change a few things here and there. Stil, it's a great bike.
You are obviously proud of your achievement. and so you should be. Totally agree with you in respect if you pay for quality, then why get cheap upgrades, it just wouldn't make sense to do so. Am looking forward to seeing the new titanium. Thanks for sharing 😺
Great video and how well you have kept your bike, the ti rear is good but why do half the job. Do the forks as well and improve the ride quality overall, you'd save money getting both done at the same time rather than send it off again a second time.
Hey thanks for watching & the comments 👍 Yes it’s an idea for the future but pretty sure they currently don’t have stock of the forks, also that’s a job I can do myself if and when my forks need replacing 👍
Bought a $3000 emtb for my son. I stare at hiding next to my ti minivelo. The beautiful simplicity of the minivelo, finding flat roads, riding busses, and trains. ..lol
@@veloworks9266 Thanks for this information. I used rust converter and fluid film for rust-proofing. I don't like this brown colour on or in my racing green bike. :)
You ask regarding your new rear triangle "Is it worth it?" When answering that question you have to consider the opportunity cost. You can only spend that money once and the question is "Is there anything else that I could do with that money?" Currently you are looking at £630 for buying and fitting a new rear triangle. What would you rather do with that money? If the answer is "nothing", then it's money well spent.
If I had a limited budget for upgrades, the rear triangle wouldn't even be on my radar. My first upgrade would be to replace the brakes with Paul Brompton brakes. Yes, they are pricey but there is no doubt the stop better than the Brompton brakes. The new rear triangle will save minimal weight and will add little to actually riding of the bike. But hey, it's your dime. Though I am looking forward to your next video about this upgrade.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I’ve looked at the Paul brakes as a potential upgrade for the future but I wouldn’t be able to use my front light with the front brake so it’s a no no for me unfortunately 😮
Hi, seems very steep to us. Max you’d want to pay would be £200 really. To give you an idea of price I will be paying £620 for the work you’ve specified AND the titanium rear triangle
@veloworks9266 thank you for reply .£200 would make it worth doing ,I was thinking £400 made the bike unviable . The bike is 21 years old ,you also said that you rebuilt wheels does that make it cheaper than Brompton replacement.love your videos especially the Moulton content.
@@rundt7605 It depends. It would for the rear wheel if we could reuse your hub and rim. The front wheel would probably be about the same (unless it's a dynamo). If you want more info on our hand built wheels have a look at our website at www.veloworkshop.co.uk
Who did you get to do the service = just my humour. There has been a few issues with the titanium rear triangle of it cracking with the wielding, a TH-cam channel I saw it on and others have mentioned it also , Brompton’s explanation was very poor , if you want to see it for your self will give you the details of that channel, also heard yesterday they are having issues with the new G- line hinges , they are changing them already, so much for the testing, I have a Brompton myself so I’m not bashing them but just saying things that I have been told by ex employees.
@@veloworks9266 only passing on information that was passed to me by people I know not hearsay, as said i own a Brompton my self and find it marvellous , Hannah at Brilliant Bikes probably the best there is in the country, she is a very charming soul indeed and her staff are excellent.
Rear Ti triangle - nice. The new Ti Brompton, however, is to my eye ugly. Sorry, said it now! I have a thing about slender steel tubing. The steel Brompton has elegant tubing and the curved front fork and the detailing on the top of the forks - the nod to old style lugs - is adorable. The Ti Brompton has thick tubing and straight forks - I look at it and see a cheap alloy folding bike from the far east. Pay nearly £5k for such an ugly bike? No thanks! The steel Brompton is a beautiful, elegant classic. It has stood the test of time now too. I’ve had mine since early 2015. It is a black M3L. I have ridden it in all weathers most days since I bought it but it has never been serviced other than by me and I can only do the basics. There are just the first signs of play now in the rear hinge triangle so I expect I’ll have to do that some time next year. It’s had new cables once, due again probably, several changes of tyres, tubes and brake blocks. In all it has cost just a few quid now and again and I’ve done LeJog on it, WOTR, tours of Lake District and the Cotswolds, commutes, shopping and allotment duties. It is quite honestly the best money I’ve spent - ever.
Hi thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. I completely understand your POV, however I am in awe of the titanium Brompton. I still can’t believe it can be that light. However, on reflection since last weekend, it is amazing but surely it shouldn’t be that light 😂 I think I prefer a bit of weight to it!

I have a raw lacquer S3L with the Brompton titanium parts and aftermarket titanium handlebars and seat post-the weight difference is noticeable.
Good to know 👍
Would you consider changing the hub to 5 speed SA? And removing the 2 speed derailleur? One less gear, one less lever.
Hi Simon, no I wouldn’t actually. I love the configuration of the gears as they are 👍
I had to replace everything exactly the same as you did but after 2 years on my C line. Do you keep track of the distance you’ve done on it?
No we don’t but it’s in 1000’s 🤔 How many miles a year do you do?
I had my 13 year old Brompton serviced by a Dutch mechanic and it runs better than out of the box. The only thing that needed changed was the chain.
Sounds well loved and looked after 👍

Have you ever thought about a rust-proofing to prevent rust on the inside of the frame?
I don’t feel like there is a need too as the frames are treated anyway
@veloworks9266 I found traces of rust where you put in the Brompton Tools. Fingers crossed I stopped it.
@ if it’s just surface rust it is nothing to worry about and Brompton expect this to happen with their frames
