  • This birch bark bottle digitaltmuseum... belongs to Nordiska museet (The Museum of the North/Nordic). I decided to make a copy!
    At digitaltmuseum... you can find lots of old swedish woven birch bark bottles.
    Enjoy!

    Very interesting to see how the multiple layers make it leak proof

    The clothespins probably weren't used back then 🙂- but I wanted to mention that I LOVE how you turned them inside-out to turn them into more "precision" clamps - brilliant! and I'm going to use that in my shop! (I also loved the scissors, and what looks like a puuko-type knife? - I'm a knifemaker -- can you tell I love tools?!?! 🙂 )

    Cool but the salt doesn’t leak out? Is it used with only courser ground salt? Never mind…maybe I should have watched to the end! Haha

      I have the same kind of brain as you I think! It holds salt I all kinds of shapes. It’s tightly woven.

      "My birch bark strips have arrived!" What a great phrase that probably has never before typed or said in all of human history - I'm loving it! ("My hovercraft is full of eels" springs to mind - Monty Python reference, sorry.) I realize this is 10 months ago - so glad to hear you made a great salt 'bottle'!

    Do you make the birch bark wet bevor weaving?
    Doesn't hurt/kill the trees using their bark?

    • @OLORS
      @OLORS  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I have never done that. But i've always used newly/pretty newly harvested birch bark and therefore never had to try. I use warm water when i make boxes out of sheets though. :)
      It dosent kill the tree if you do it wright. Shallow cuts that is. The is supposed to grow slower and become harder afterwards, I've read.
