Thanks young man for teaching this 59 year old how to do it! I replaced mine with no issues. Easy peasy, thank again you are wonderful. Have a great Christmas.
I watched your video last week, clicked on the link, ordered my part and today, 20 minutes later my flex drawer is working for the first time in years!!! Thank you.
Thanks for the great installation directions. Every step was as described and demonstrated. My cable was broken in the same place as yours; obviously a design issue. I’m not too afraid to try a repair such as this, but you made it easy!
Way to go Spenc... My situation and cable was exactly like yours. Thanks for the DIY. I ordered the cable on Amazon. $98 bucks now. And since I didn't have anything to do, I cleaned up the cable, soldered all the broke wires, (theirs eight of them) and put it back in. Worked like a champ. Don't know how long it will last but at least Ill have a spare cable when/if it goes.
Spent $100 on Amazon and despite not seeing any tear, the replacement worked. Can now adjust temp in drawer and lights now work. Thanks. My model had an extra bar in the back secured with two Phillips screws. One tip, it was difficult to get the black bar connecting the geared wheels back in. If you remove the little white clip on the right side of the bar, it allows you to push the bar further into the grated wheel, and then you can replace the clip.
Great video! Our cable broke a couple of years ago and got a new cable from Amazon. But trying to figure it out was frustrating and since our model has all the controls on the drawer, but all the lights and features of the fridge were still working, I just gave up and we've been living without any controls since. After watching this video, I now am confident I can finally replace the cable. Thank you for posting this detailed video! So helpful. FYI, our model is RF23M8070SR/AA. And in case you're wondering, will never buy a Samsung fridge again. Between this, the ice maker issues and water dispenser issues, my recommendation would be DO NOT buy Samsung fridges.
Excellent video, my freezer light, and my drawer control has been out for a year. I took it apart just like you said, and the wires are all broken. I ordered a new harness . Thank you for such a good video !!!
This is an accurate and very helpful explanation. Worked perfectly and saved us an $800 repair bill. We paid $200 Cdn for the cable through Samsung parts
Thanks Spencer - Just bought cable and installed it! Success. After frustration trying to fix on my own, this was a savior. Perfect video for a long-term problem
I have a different model, but this was my exact problem as well. About 5 of my wires to the mid drawer display were severed causing my display not to work and my fridge to cut out periodically. I soldered them back together and used heat shrink (I cut the remaining wires to fit it). Working like a charm. Thanks bro!
Spencer thanks so much for making this video, the new harness (purchased from your affiliate link) fixed both my display/control and the freezer lights as you said. My cable was broken right at the white plastic bead. Thanks again!
Thanks! Excellent content, precise explanation of things to take care of while working on this project. Got ours working too. By the way, Samsung is well aware of this issue along with other issues with their design (mainly ice maker and all), I feel they are intentionally not fixing these major design flaws in their refrigerator so that they can rip off people after warranty expiration. It is simple fix for most of these issues they have in their products. Never buying Samsung Refrigerator again.
Great video, this fixed everything except the light for the flex zone when the drawer is open. The panel is working again and the freezer light is working again. I found a major cut and frayed area on the cord behind the slider.
Great to hear! Thanks for sharing. I wonder if the bulb for the flex zone light is out. The way everything else is working, I'm not sure what else it would be...
Thank you for this VERY helpful video! Spencer explained everything clearly and made it easy for us to do this replacement, saving us several hundred dollars!
Thank you so much , it’s really useful. Same happened my fridge, I had a quote over 350 from Samsung care center. I bought this fridge one year ago and as soon as 1 year completed the problems started. It's painful.
Perfect instructions! I am sure this just saved me about $200. Thanks.for.sharing your expertise. I agree with a comment to remove the small plug on the black bar to make it easier to get in and out.
Great video, I must have a newer design or extra screws. The black rod between the slides has a removable clip and I have a rear cross bar between the slides - helps keep them aligned! Also no barrel clip to leave out?! Couldn’t find damage from original cord. Separating the electrical clips was a challenge, patience is required. Great video though! Waited too long to fix this. Wasn’t sure how to take apart without breaking. Had a terrible mess below from a forgotten spill - had to take apart to clean it! Thanks again
I followed your video and replaced my cable with little to no problems. I did leave the plastic guide piece on in the back so we'll see how it goes. Thanks.
Great video. I just realized our lights were no longer working on the Flex Zone drawer and saw this video. This fridge from Samsung has so many issues including the ice maker. Fixed that and now need to replace this. Thanks for the tutorial! If the cord is cut, do you know if it affects the cooling of the drawer? I've noticed our food (cheese) spoils faster than expected in this drawer and thinking to toss it all until replaced.
The video is great, and we were having this exact problem. The old wire is visibly frayed, however, upon plugging in the new one, the drawer lights do still do not come on. Is there something else I should look into?
Sorry to hear that. If the wire harness replacement fixed the refrigeration and control panel problems with the drawer, I'd check if the bulbs are still good for your lights. Good luck!
Thanks for the great video. I replaced the part as you showed however it only fixed my freezer light. The control panel is still out 😢 Any guidance/advice on that?
Glad this helped! It sounds like maybe the control panel is bad too... Hard to say for sure though without looking at it. Does the control panel seem to change the temperature at all, and maybe it just isn't lighting up?
@MakingMends unsure. Maybe I can put some water in a container and take the temperature. Then press the button (but it definitely doesn't light up or make a sound) and see if the temp changes after an hour? Thanks for your help
@@tejpandya If you don't have another thermometer option, this could help provide some insights into what is happening with your fridge without taking anything apart. Let me know what you find!
Excellent tutorial. My flex control indicator for coldest setting is on, and can’t be changed when touching the control switch temp. The lights for zone and freezer are working. Is there a fix to just change the temp switch, or is changing the entire wiring harness necessary.
If it's not the wiring harness, it's likely the control panel on the door. Does the fridge make a dinging noise when you push the button? Or is it not responsive?
i have a similar model and the control panel does not work as well. i don't see any immediate tears or cuts in the cable.... gonna try to replace the cable anyway.. thank you!!

Hi, excellent video! Our Samsung has the same problem, I ordered a new wire harness $130 from Samsung in 2023 prices. I was going to try and splice it back together but I was afraid it would shorten the length too much. I was wondering if your fix of removing and leaving the "bead" piece fix the problem?

That's a good idea! However, I'm not sure the cable would be long enough after splicing. The cable also needs to bend and flex in just the right way to "roll" out with the drawer. Splicing may add some bulk to it, preventing flexibility, which was the very issue the bead caused as noted in the video.
