GMC Pak-Mor on Manual Recycling

- Here's a 16-yard Pak-Mor rear loader on a GMC C7500, powered by regular gasoline, collecting automated recycling carts by hand. The driver had a hand injury and needed a second swamper to help finish his routes. Rear load crews are normally two people strong at CR&R. This was also a spare truck they brought with them since the normal one was in the shop. Rate & comment please. Enjoy!

Nice video! It's always a pleasure to watch the Newport Beach Pak-Mors cruise through the alleys. Awfully clever of the city to go with a gasser rather than CNG to get around the diesel restrictions. Was probably pretty cheap to buy as well.
+georgewuzheer Thanks George. This truck turned out to be a 2008 and used to be used as a spare when the city had it. I would assume a gas-powered truck would be cheaper compared to diesel or other alternative fuels.
Great work Tristen! Lol I guess one way to speed up that packer is to manually throttle it from the cab, damn it was zooming haha. I haven't watched video of this particular unit and newport for a long time, it's crazy how much has changed!
***** Thanks. There's a wooden stick in the cab that the drivers jam between the gas pedal and steering wheel with the parking brake applied in the event that they have to get out - usually for the trash loads or while picking up in alleys. It's currently used as a spare truck and taken regularly by a driver on Mondays. And a lot has changed over the last 5+ years lol
Wow - very entertaining and unique truck. Love the mini Pak-Mors, especially in this CR&R color! Didn't even know they had one of these, and what made it even more fun was seeing a truck that doesn't run on diesel! Very quiet idle. Very entertaining watching them manually dump automated bins in a Rear Loader. I liked the technique they used to dump them. Also surprised to see a lot of bagged recycling here - do they still sort it all out? I personally always get worried when I see bagged recycling lol. Anyway, awesome video, can't wait for future uploads!
SoCalGarbageTrucks Thanks. The color is actually the City of Newport Beach's color. A follow up on my Newport city videos will show that CR&R was required to buy the city's old fleet as part of the contract. Yes they sort everything out - some people bag it for convenience, even those in other cities with the 3-can system.
Great video! Really enjoyed the truck and the crew. Some good team work going on here. Always enjoy seeing recycling being collected with a rear loader, that way you can see all the material. Also glad that the recycling didn't look too contaminated. I like the packing cycle at 6:06 packer left the hopper really clean. No wonder the truck is called a Pak-Mor lol. Altogether great job and hope you're job with CR&R is going great and happy Fourth of July!

+thelyokofannumber1 Thanks. That part of town has a huge recycling problem when you get closer to all the vacation rentals. One route gives a crew no choice but to mix.
