    To anyone not getting the specular,
    Make sure to turn off the Screen Space reflections in the render properties.

    Absolutely beautiful! Big thanks for this! And i love the Node Group Input Control you made at the end. :D What a great feature! I only have a problem with the edges of the Color Ramp Colors being really jagged, pixelated, not smooth. Could you help me with that?

    • @phfdeflicted
      @phfdeflicted 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is it where you are getting shadows? If so, check the Shadows options in the Render Properties tab - I always turn on soft shadows to blend the edges, and you could set the Cascade Size higher (above 1024px) to get a smoother transition.

    • @weilo82
      @weilo82 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@phfdeflicted Soft shadows are on and maxed the Cascade Size, but sadly no change. :/ I think it's something to do with the Color Ramp, it just looks as if it had a too low resolution. Could that be it?

    omg great video... thankyou youtube recommendation. been searching toon shading for eevee that is not bare bone and not too complicated.
    but a little bit of question. where do you plug image texture in the node? im guessing its at the color on the node group, right?

    • @phfdeflicted
      @phfdeflicted 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes plug an image texture into the colour slot. You will obviously need to uv unwrap the model if you want to use an image texture. You could also use other textures like noise or waves if you want to apply patterns or other procedural effects.

    Any ideas on how to do colored lights with this shader?

    • @phfdeflicted
      @phfdeflicted 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Best method I’ve found is to put an mix RGB node at the end of the node layout, just before the material output. Choose a colour and mix intensity that matches your lighting, and then use overlay, colour, or similar to give a lighting effect that either changes all of the colour of the material (highlights and shadows), or just effecting the highlights.
      There is probably a way of driving the colour and intensity with the lights with a driver, but I haven’t given it a try yet, and for what I’ve done so far it was easier to copy and paste the above additional nodes to the few materials I had assigned, and match the colours.

    Is this evee or cycles?

  • @patrickcasella
    @patrickcasella ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm using blender 3.2 and the shader seems to break around 6:00 of the tutorial. I'm using eevee and a sun lamp. I get two different shades of color, but not a third (just darker shadow color around the sphere and a smaller circle that is a slightly lighter color than the shadows). I lose the white highlight part (lower color ramp section of the nodes). when I drag the multiply/screen color node to the group output, I can control each individually, but as soon as I use the mix rgb node and connect it to the output, the highlight disappears. Could this be a blender 3.2 issue?

    • @phfdeflicted
      @phfdeflicted ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure, I haven’t tried 3.2 with this shader yet. I will try to do an update video on this shader at some point though, as I have made a number of changes since posting this to the shader I use.

      @@phfdeflicted damn! i have the same problem! OH NO haha i just solved it! you just have to invert: the Multiply node at the top have to be connected to the 2nd imput of the Mix node.
      And the Screen node output has to be connected to the 1st imput of the Mix node.. i was going mad and than i just inverted them XD

    does anybody know how I can make it so the source light colour can mix in with the lit region?

    • @phfdeflicted
      @phfdeflicted 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can add in an rgb mix node at the end of the bottom set of nodes before the final mix to assign a general colour shift which allows you to replicate coloured light. I have a slightly more advanced setup of this material that allows you to do this across the entire material to match the general lighting scheme. I haven’t looked into doing it with the scene lighting though I should imagine it would be possible. I find the above method works for more artistic control though, and as long as you don’t have hundreds of materials you can easily copy and paste the desired colour to multiple materials for a more unified look.

      The shader only works with Eevee - not cycles, and also needs a light source such as a sun lamp to work properly, check those first.

      @@itsablast60 you can just add an image texture as a node, choose your texture file, and plug it in to the colour input of the shader described in the video. I’ll try to do another video at some looking at painted effects and the combination with freestyle edges.
