As people have noted, at 1:04:15 not only does Gabi's example show that the original video had 1/10th the views of the reaction, but even the impressions given for the original creator's channel were for videos that also contained the reactor. This was not of interest to me, for reasons explained in the video, but it does further undercut statements Gabi made. I expect some people won't make it to the end of the video so I want to give some of my closing thoughts here as well: It is hard to explain how demoralising it is to to read the comments on the original video and see how so many were taken in by this woman's lies and honestly child-like arguments. It has been many years since I have seen someone so ignorant, yet so confident when they speak. She is in a league of her own but she additionally seems to possess little care as to whether or not what she is saying is true in general. It is therefore sometimes hard to know if she is actually lying, or merely expressing her callous indifference to the truth when she speaks. The sad reality is that being ignorant yet willing to speak with confidence is a huge asset in the commentary game here on TH-cam. Success is in selling a narrative, not in determining the truth on anything. If you feel ethnically fine with just throwing out whatever comes to mind without a second thought, you will always be first to the punch. I am sure Gabi will have a bright future misinforming, and therefore harming, others for profit. The issues Gabi showcases in this video are not specific to her video about me or my beliefs but her entire channel. Do I expect a response from Gabi? No. While it is clear she lacked the ability to recognize her logical errors, she clearly knowingly lied endless times in the video, thus my stating so public wouldn't exactly be news to her. Original video: React Streamers Are Destroying TH-cam? (tldr; MoistCr1TiKaL & DarkViperAU drama) th-cam.com/video/c3cQCw1TiNs/w-d-xo.html My essay video: Reactors: The Professional Parasites th-cam.com/video/Irk8h0ax5aY/w-d-xo.html Follow Up (Deleted Scenes For This Video): th-cam.com/video/7tnkfjWizKI/w-d-xo.html

"b-b-but reaction content is necessary! How would I be able to call out a podcast that promotes toxic ideals if I can't play the whole 2 hours of it and react to what was said there for the first time?"
Fr, her argument against that is so dumb. Her point about asking for permission from RiceGum to criticize his content is a very different thing from react content. That is commentary or even a discussion since your actively talking about why something is bad and adding to the original content for better or worse. React content is sitting on your ass and watching someone's TH-cam videos for your own content. See how that is two very different things? Hell you'd think Gabi would understand that since her video is literally commentating on this entire situation but clearly she's too daft to understand the different genres of content creation.
I'd argue that reacting to harmful content instead of responding or commenting is a very dangerous way to call out something. If some shitty alpha male podcast takes up 90% of the screen and 99% of the time of the video then who do you think is having more of an impact on my viewers. Meanwhile having a script with what they say, showing what they said and arguing against it means that my viewers will be show better counter points without having to go through them talking in circles
I like how the reaction video she shows has 3 million views while the original got 300K views proving Matto's point. Congrats Gabi you played yourself.
As much as her video sucks I'm afraid that doesn't prove shit. There are lots of people who would never otherwise have even discovered that content or would have no interest in watching it without a reaction
1:18:41 "..whatever Logan Paul did back in the day..." It's statements like this that make me believe she doesn't care about the details or the facts. Too much effort to look into things and even understand the concept being discussed over just letting words spill out of her face. "He (Charlie) misunderstood some of the points Darkviper Explained Lazily in his essay" 16:30 Just watching some of these clips are just giving me second hand embarrassment, why is his essay lazy? What makes it lazy? What language and what reason does she think that the points made weren't clear? No reason is given, maybe if you were just talking about something in passing sure but a whole video? She continued to use this language for her entire video and never made the clarifications as to why she is saying/thinks these things, never explains? A new level of embarrassing is a very good way to put it.
@@TheSteeltec Its actually hilarious how she admits that she has a bias towards Charlie and despite that bias says that she'll "Try to be as objective as possible" and then right after calls Matt's essay a 'Manifesto' (as if he's a school shooter or something) and slandering him in numerous ways (calling him and his ideas stupid, dangerous, lazy etc). I guess Gabi doesn't know what being 'objective' means either because learning to write/talk about someone you dislike in a fair, objective manner is a skill I learned in high school.
Tbf Gabi is not the worst just seemed to be incredibly biased in this case only because of Penguinz0, her content is pretty much like Nickisnotgreen or other "funny" social talk videos, like Noah Samsen but on a certain lesser level. I doubt she does it maliciously, but the confidence in her voice and attempts to shame Matto "who has 900 thousand subscribers" really make me want to see her realize that she did not make a single good point in her video.
22:30 Yes Gabby, because Kurtis' Highly edited, scripted review of a movie that is 1/3 the length of the subject matter is NOT a direct replacement for that movie. Unlike somebody leaving the movie running on twitch while they go get dinner.

@@suriokamuolys03 Why the fuck does her entire video exist then? There's no defending her not reading the script properly before filming her response. Whatever her beliefs are, it doesn't change her clear dishonesty.
Agreed. ADHD is a reason, but not an excuse. If you want to cite a neurological disorder for not having done the research, fine - but at the same time, that doesn't give you a free pass to completely skip past that step and go straight to drawing conclusions. I mean, sure, next time you get pulled over for a traffic violation just tell the cop you shouldn't be held accountable because you're dyslexic and have difficulty reading the signs. I'm sure they'll apologize for wasting your time and let you go.
@@Enaz19 If anything some people with ADHD will overthink every little detail of making a video like that to make sure that everything in it is as accurate as possible. Having ADHD isn't always just lack of attention. But this video isn't even an example of her ADHD being a REASON for it being misinformed. She straight up admits in a different video that when presented with ethical/philosophical discussions she turns her brain off. So she made that entire video out of a trance of ignorance and stupidity to the point she doesn't even know what she's saying. She even unknowingly disproved herself several times. There's no coherency in her thinking or what she's saying. She's only slightly better than the intelligence level of XQC in that at least with her I can make out actual words from the English language.
I'd much rather just be cured of this disorder than use it as an excuse any day. If I had a choice between a pill that cures ADHD and a pill that puts a glowing neon sign above my head that says "I HAVE ADHD", I'd choose... the former... And that being said, whenever I work on a project I fixate really hard on it to the point hours go by and I'm still trying to iron out every little kink (that is if it interests me; Gabi clearly doesn't care too much about being right).
Watched it all and it is just sad, hope you will recover from this abysmal video as soon as possible Matto. You have been great inspiration to me from the day I have discoverd you about 2 years ago. The way you explain things is just beautiful and smart, I wish you all the best.
Considering this response got nearly the same number of views in a month that the original got in a year, plus the obvious shift of sentiment in the comments section, it is gratifying to see the misinformation be tackled somewhat. Of course, her drama farm fans won't care and will blindly back objectively incorrect laziness but hopefully some newer people will be convinced at least.
@bye1551 she is correct on not being on youtber drama all the time tho, she does cocer quite a bit of internet drama but she also does videos on very niche things like heelies and infomercials
I still find it hilarious that people are so baffled at the idea of your essay being 14 pages. 14 pages equals about 30 minutes of spoken content, which can be on the lower end for a lot of video essays. It basically just goes to show that reactors have rarely put in a hard days work that actual content creators have to do on a consistent basis. Every 30 minute video they sit and eat ramen to was 14 pages they are once again ignoring. Irony.
What do you mean? Everyone knows everything ever written on paper has been less than 13 pages, matto was out of line clicking on a new page while writing that
And 14 pages isn't even fairly long for an essay. It's about average, but they seem to be operating off of middle school standards of what an essay is.
Unfortunately people these days are so anti reading, it would take them an hour or more and still not be able to grasp the message they just read themselves without someone available to explain it or summarise it for them.
Your fatal mistake is that you make good points past the five minute mark, braindead people already stopped paying attention because they're so used to Tik Tok.
This is more for people who are actually interested in the creator ecosystem and how they affect/are effected by others. As well as bringing up topics that people can actually resonate with or have a serious discussion about. Those braindead people you talk about don't care about any of that. They just want to consume, consume, consume media in small bite size forms without having to think. It's sad, really.
I think the best argument against reaction content is how the streamers themselves are upset about "unofficial" clip channels that immediately take clips from their livestreams and post them to TH-cam before the streamer can. Their argument is that it deprives them of views and money because there are now duplicates of the same content. They're all FRUSTRATINGLY close to understanding the problem with reaction content, but yet so far.
@@Ertzuntiun I'll give react streamers the benefit of the doubt by saying they're not malicious to pretend not understanding the problem, they're just extremely dumb to not getting it.
Sadly its not a flamethrower but a fire extinguisher. Dark has to defend himself to a dumb person, because it is damaging him with false acquisitions. Then again she did not understand anything and shat out content, as bad as a reaction video can be.
As I was watching this video I kept thinking “Gabi can’t embarrass herself anymore”, and then she said that there isn’t a finite number of impressions. Does Gabi not know that there isn’t an infinite number of people?
Giving her the benefit of the doubt, my guess is that she confused limitless with infinite. You can say that there isn't really a limit to how many impressions can be generated, but it will never be infinite.
@@idaniluz652 this is probably what happened. She most likely got this misconception from the conversation she had with her sister where she said that over time a video could get an unlimited amount of views. Of course it’s still embarrassing and showcases her complete misunderstanding of the topic and how the algorithm works (which is ironic because she stated multiple times that Matt had no idea how TH-cam works and that his argument and script was lazy).
@@idaniluz652 to be fair, there kind of is a limit to how many impressions you can get. it's probably a very big number but there are still a limited number of people with internet access and a fraction of those people actually use youtube, and there's a limit to how much time those people can spend on youtube. the limit does exist but just for the purposes of a debate on the nature of react content i think it's pointless to get this specific but there are a finite number of people with a finite amount of time

matt will break. i used to write essays in response to people quote mining and making crap up back in the day, i quoted full context, i underlined and explained how that goes entirely against the twisted to the opposite meaning of the frauds and liars, i sourced it, i gave even additional reading material. i didn't even inject any of my own opinion on these things, juct basically "fact checking" as it's called now. nobody reads it and it will be dismissed with a hand wave and doubling down. it's insane. "what can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence", as one very stupid person said is so incredibly wrong. it takes absolutely no effort to spread misinformation. none. all it takes is having an opinion that benefits you personally, and out of convenience of not having to read and think it will be favoured by far many more people than the hand full that bother to read. brandolinis law is a very simple, true observation, but it's not complete. there is no amount of work that can refute bs from stupid and dishonest people. it'd assume that they are genuine in the first place. there's some news: they are not. if you have any faith in people then there is something wrong with you, or you've just always coasted along without much of a care about just how incredibly stupid and dishonest people are.

There are problems with the video but this isn't one of them. Someone can come from what they perceive to be a factual, objective standpoint while still recognizing that it's an opinion. They just believe it to be an opinion backed my facts and objectivity.
Seeing her lump Danny Gonzalez in with XQC and Pokimane is ridiculous.....Danny actually has skits, scripts, and makes content from the things he reacts to (including original songs, sometimes!) while XQC has literally just silently watched things with his audience live.
It's also like you said just completely different. They are both, yes, reacting to something but with Danny (at least his main) there is a script and a plan because he has actually seen the content. The xQc's of the creator market are seeing things for the first time and then just uploading that first viewing.
Danny, Kurtis, Drew, Jarvis etc are what I call Commentary They always present the premise of what they're commenting, forming points (even if they are wrapped in humour), and then conclude of what's the reasoning behind their content... There's always a premise, a point, and a conclusion... All formed into a script Commentary can be bad, but Commentary isn't at all low effort.
I thought the same thing, She's merely using her broad definition of "reaction" she created when she made the "DarkViper made a reaction video" comment. This is also lazy. And honestly she isn't even a reaction channel, shes just a very bad commentary channel. So her only impetus to create and defend this take is because she's a Charlie dick rider...I guess? Well and to try to insert herself into drama, all the while insisting that she "hates drama." If I had one take on this video it would be a quote from her own video, "like what even is this" lmao
The weirdest part about that is that she HERSELF isn't even a reaction channel, she's a commentary channel yet completely unaware of how there's a difference between what she does and what xqc does
Dude no fucking way, i watched her Spotify video like a week ago and wanted to do the experiment but better cuz her sample size was MISERABLE, but while looking for more info i found the article she mentioned in the video and realized that she basically plagiarized the whole thing. Absolute insane timing on this one.
You've honestly convinced me to stop watching reactions, even though it's difficult with how much of it there is on the platform and how addictive it can be to watch...it's just so shitty when you realize how damaging it can be.
I have the single easiest fix for this: Don't recommend this channel. You might've heard of this before and even use it, but might not realize that it pretty much solves the issue of react content for yourself. The way the algorithm works is that if a video you'd be interested in has a reaction, both the reaction and the original are likely to appear for you since they target the almost same audience (since they're... the same god damn video!). This way, if you exclude reaction channels, you'll receive the originals first and foremost. I'm talking from personal experience, I've been getting so many "viral" videos in their original form before reactors ever pop up for me. That being said, I wouldn't recommend using "Not interested" on reaction videos because the algorithm will assume you don't like the original video's topic.
honestly the only “reaction” type stuff i watch is people watching movies for the first time its kinda fun to see young people watch all my old favorite movies with a new set of eyes
Hearing her bring up Danny Gonzalez and Kurtis Conner is hilarious since they not only do plenty of original content but their content involving other people's works is critical in nature, using the video as a talking point which is not only fair use but transformative in nature.
The ending note was personally very powerful im ngl. That moment of self reflection, wondering how much of your acceptance of the terrible nature of this creator space was based in reality, or merely a scapegoat through which you could justify giving up. It takes a person of remarkable mental fortitude to not only have such deep contemplation, but to actively fight against your predispositions and wonder what's real throughout all this mess, especially while so many people are just against you for reasons which are blatantly untrue. Perhaps the future of online creation is bleak, where the exploiters rise to the top and misinformation runs rampant. Perhaps not. Regardless, I think this fight is worth it, and every ounce of effort put into combating this is good and just and indeed worth it. I don't claim to know you personally, and I never will, but from all I've seen of you throughout the years I've been following, I can say with certainty that if we had more people who thought and cared like you, this platform would be so much better off. Please don't give up. We need people like you.
I have a personal anecdote that demonstrates this INVOLVING Gabi Belle. She only popped up in my feed because she reacted to the kind of content that I was already watching, so youtube started recommending her instead of the content I was already watching, because they were the same videos, but Gabi's had higher views. This is exactly the problem that she doesn't get, and it comes across almost like she knows, and she's instead just shifting the blame.
Wait wait wait: I just got to like 1:07:30 where Gabi talks about you not having the right to police content and that if you don't like it don't watch it, and you certainly don't have the right to criticize it, meanwhile HER POINT at like 28:00 is QUITE LITERALLY that reaction content exists to call out bad content and practices, and while that's not accurate, it does show her hand when she directly contradicts herself later.
Idk man I feel like this is kind of like an unhinged ex would post (talking mostly about the original video) like she made mistakes but honestly does it matter?
At the end of the day no. I don't think Gabi's video will stop anyone watching Viper, and vice versa, but on priciple yes, because encouraging this kind of behavoir towards other content creators (making a video where you intentionally misrepresent the other content creator) is only leading to further problems. You have on one hand viper who pointed out a community wide issue, then gabi, who months later drudged back up the issue and punched down to viper without properly reading or representing the document, and without acknowledging the corresponding video in any way. Instead of properly critiquing the content viper made, which would be productive, she chose to create drama through falsehoods, which is reductive. By the by it's not going to have any direct impact; but encouraging this will only cause it to become worse in scope, so calling it out and PROPERLY critiquing it is absolutely necessary.@@p1nkfreud
This realization makes me appreciate dark viper even more. It appears to me that he assumes she must fundamentally not understand what he's saying in order to make the points that she's making because he doesn't believe someone could be so malicious to purposefully misrepresent his points that horrendously. I'm not discounting either possibility but I'm starting to lean more towards it being malicious on her end.
I can't even begin to imagine how embarrassing it would be to be caught making a half-cooked argument about something I do not understand and pretend that I do. 💀
I’ve had one of those but over something minor, yet still, I felt like a clown, completely random moment in my Junior year of High school still sticks with me almost 4 years later
I'd also like to add that if you ever watch a react stream, the chat goes haywire every time they pause the video, telling them to shut up and resume. Reinforcing the idea that the people do not care about the streamers "personality", but they are there to watch the video they are stealing.
Yup, it happens a lot under music reaction channels that break down things and not just listen to it. The amount of "why do you pause so often" and "just shut up and let it play" is crazy
Same thing with people playing video games and talking during cutscenes. Like, shut up and let the cutscene play, nobody cares about you as a streamer, I want to watch the video game.
this is one of the reasons i legitimately enjoy YMS' reactions to videos. He pauses every 5 seconds to make a 30 second ramble about what he thinks about it. It breaks up the original video's pacing and changes the focus to his reaction to the content - transforming it you could say. By the end of their videos you don't get the same experience as the thing they're reacting to, and a few people do have a problem with that when watching his streams. To which he fervently tells them to go leave for wanting him to just watch the thing instead of react and respond to it
How dare these people use freedom of speech as an argument in this context, this has nothing to do with free speech, and people using this as an argument in this context, discredit freedom of speech as an argument in correct contexts Also, I think you did an incredible job explaining this, if she bothers to actually listen to your argument now then I cannot possibly see how she wouldn't understand your points
Also like, people love screaming "free speech" but since fucking WHEN has the law been the arbiter of what is "morally good"?? You can act completely within the law and still be a dickhead.
People only argue freedom of speech when somebody has to suffer, or be caused some deprivation of liberty. You never see these people actively encouraging people striking (for instance) which is the embodiment of freedom of speech to better their position in life. (speech being an umbrella term for freedom to act and express).
In the small chance that she does respond and does watch it to the end, she'll just jump on the personal 2/3 minute bit at the end, and not address any of the arguments from the 1 hour 20 before.
As far as I am aware, Danny Gonzales doesn't do reaction content, he does the usual TH-cam commentary video format: he selects a few clips that help him make jokes and intersplices them in his commentary. He doesn't film himself with the movie footage on the corner of the screen or any other similar level of laziness, he doesn't show you his first impression and he doesn't interject with "that's crazy" or bullshit like that to mostly uninterrupted footage. His movie reviews are transformative and in no way replace the actual movie. She tried to conflate reaction content with anything that uses footage from somewhere else at all, which is just absurdly dishonest.
The fact that she is using Danny Gonzalez as a stand-in to argue on behalf of people like xQc clearly demonstrates that she either didn't bother learning Matt's stance, didn't understand anything, or is being disingenuous.

BECAUSE I have ADHD, I make damn sure I heavily proofread videos and have other people take a look at them because I recognize that I can make mistakes like this. Even though I take these precautions, I still make mistakes, but I don't throw my hands up in the air and say "oh well, I have ADHD"; I make note of it so I can avoid it in the future. Every mistake is a learning opportunity, a chance to grow. You have to own your mistake, because in the long run it makes you a better person.
I wonder if through practice with the methods you're using...if it's possible to fool your brain after a considerable length of time into making the symptoms of ADHD almost nonexistent. I'm not a doctor though.
@@thenovicewhispers i dont think so, i have ADHD too, still find it difficult to write big texts and stuff without losing where i was and what was i talking about, but i got the habit of reading messages and texts at least 3 times before sending so i dont make a lot of mistakes lol
as somebody who has ADHD it made my skin scrawl when she used her ADHD as an excuse. purely because you have ADHD doesn't excuse you from the responsibilities of doing good research and good editing to relay what you are talking about in a good and fair matter. if i were to want to make a video covering a topic that i'd like to critique, i would make ABSOLUTELY sure to try to represent everything being covered on a fair and honest basis and have the quality reflect that. sure i'd take a lot longer because of my ADHD, but that is a problem that i have to accept. it is a responsibility i carry to represent the works of others in a fair and you can't just half bake something and blame your ADHD for doing so. maybe if it is too hard to do, maybe don't make it at all.
Exactly, as someone with ADHD I only use it as an excuse to have more time doing something. There was no deadline for her video, it wasn’t asked for, she made it on her own accord, no reason ADHD did that
I agree, as someone who has Autism and ADHD it’s crazy that she’s using it as an excuse. I don’t use my autism or ADHD to excuse myself from anything so it makes no sense why she should do it.
Something I really appreciate is that the thumbnail doesn't use an intentionally bad picture of Gabi to make her look bad. It'd be hypocritical to misrepresent her in a video about misrepresenting an argument, but I've seen people do it before.
So many people do it, some even being great creators like willy mac. I also appreciate it when it's avoided. I like that Turkey Tom goes in the complete other direction. He takes a good photo of the subject, and runs it through a beautification filter. The ugly modified photos, or even unmodified, but unflattering screenshots.....are so corny, and cheapens an argument.
@@watertower1989 A breadtuber is a left wing person who makes youtube content. Going by the Soros thing, he's a right wing anti-semite who's ironically only here to cause chaos.
i was rewatching this video and noticed something you might have missed Matt. 1:04:00 In the example gabi uses you can see that charlie's reaction video has over 3.2 million views while the orirignal video has only 322K views. This example that gabi herself provides destroys all her claims that reaction content grants exposure to videos. More over later at 1:13:10 she argues that people who watch the reaction would want to watch the original video, well if that was the case then why did the original video in this case not have more views?? Cuz organic views + the views from the reaction should've given that video more views, or atleast comparable views. But instead we see that the video has only 10% of the views that the reaction video does. Its amazing how the examples she brings up to defend her point end up refuting all her arguments instead.
I do love how she talks about free speech and 2 seconds later says the idea of consent being given is stupid because if you have to ask for consent it would block the ability to react to and shit on content that has a different opinion of her own. Free speech for the win!
The thing that confused me the most is how she puts Danny Gonzales' content and XqC's streams in the same bucket. There's a HUGE difference in a well edited video with a script and sketches talking about a movie while explaining it at your own style, and a clip of XqC silently eating junk food while a full video/movie is playing without any interruptions. Regardless if she disagrees whether what X is doing is harmful or not, can't she see what content is and isn't the subject of the discussion? I really don't get it
its likely that she knows that, and is using it as a strawman. She's basically saying "ok you hate reaction content, like xqc, and Danny Gonzalez, why would you hate Danny Gonzalez?" obviously they aren't in the same category of content, but by putting Danny there, it inherently makes xqc look better because no one would criticize Dannys content
Arguably the most dishonest thing she does is use Kurtis Conner and Danny Gonzalez as examples of reaction creators when they aren't. Danny Gonzalez claims to be one but he just isn't; his content is scripted and is of talking about existing content for purposes of criticism and comedy. It does to an extent remove the impetus to watch the original media, however it does so to content with an entirely different audience in such a way that it causes little to no harm. Obviously watching a thing and writing jokes about why the thing is bad and then supplementing it with clips from the thing so the audience knows what you're talking about isn't reaction content, it's commentary.
not all reaction content is the same, truly transformative and scripted content about stuff (like danny and kurtis make) is totally fine, as it has effort in it and isnt just a full on duplicate with insert popular millionaire guy sitting in the corner eating.
@evilkittens9 thats not what his channel focuses on. Yes hes made some. But hes made alot more commentary videos. Scripted videos about other content. Not just sitting back watching a video with an occasional pause to say hur hur that was funny duuuuuh
This video gets better with every watch. It's an important one about reaction content, but what it's really about is the way misinformation spreads like wildfire. I notice that Gabi hasn't ever bothered to respond to this or hold their hands up to the numerous falsehoods they have asserted. Even if their opinion remains unchanged, they surely must be aware that they have carried out a hack job that has real world consequences for their subject. If you're reading this Matt, keep up your great work, you are trying to make the platform a better place.
I noticed most people who say you're wrong say that you're just letting out your anger or that you're a lunatic or something...its really sad to see them not understand who you are as a person or what you stand for at all. Yes, you do get angry sometimes...and most of the time its justifed, and the times isn't justifed, you see you error and atone for it, you are a genuinely good person, you genuinely try to be respectful and you put effort into everything you do. I hope you know how much we appreiciate you, and I wish these people could actually use their brains to understand that they don't know you as a person, and that their "he's just an angry bitter lunatic" type arguments are so far removed from reality. Love ya Matto
That's just the way of life on the internet I suppose. Want to show injustices around something that you're passionate about? You sound unhinged! Want to show those injustices but make a carefully curated video about it? You're boring, and I don't have time for that! Some people want to stay in their echo chambers and never want to look at things that they like from a different, more grey perspective.
Yeah, true. If you think something is wrong, it makes sense to get mad about it. It shows you care (well, maybe I'm not sure. Might not matter, because people can fake anger or fake being level-headed.) That's what happens when you focus on how someone says something rather than what they say.
They call him an angry lunatic to undermine that under the angry tone there's actually intelligent shit being said. They rather focus on the thing that doesn't matter at all to the point of what he's saying. I don't give a fuck if somebody is angrily explaining something. If what they say is logical and intelligent they can be as angry as they feel is justified. And I genuinely believe in Matt's situation it's nearly impossible to come out of the gate 100% calm and collected given the amount of shit he's had to deal with. Most people would have completely snapped years ago. He's definitely handled it better than most, me included. Stupid people make me irrationally pissed off. It's so hard to debate with some people with actual intelligent points when deep down the thought at the forefront of your mind is "Holy fuck I wanna slap the absolute piss out of this person".
@@gagetaylor192 Especially when they seem to be purposely mischaracterizing what you said, or make super leaps of logic and assume something that doesn't even make sense or matter in the context of what is being talked about. I can't tell if people mischaracterize as a defense mechanism or do it accidentally just because they lack any modicum of reading comprehension. Not gonna say I'm perfect, but damn it can be annoying. For me, some people have told me Gandhi wasn't a great person or something instead of responding to what I said. Like bruh, c'mon.
I absolutely love this. Seeing Matt applying his minset and beliefs to make a response has to be the single most entertaining and informative piece of the internet to date. He does not bring a knife to a knife fight, be has already aimed an orbital cannon at the place where the fight were to take place. Reciepts, facts, logic, love it.
Has anyone also mentioned that it could be demoralising to a creator to see their work effectively copied and re-uploaded by someone who then got hundreds or maybe thousands more views and interactions than the original video, simply because they can pump out videos quicker.
I think matto has in the past but the facts are that these people don't care. They are already the laziest creators on the platform so having empathy for creators that may not get the audience or credit they deserve unfortunately eludes them.
*talks about how he no longer has faith in the world and cant live with the knowledge of such dishonest and selfish people* "So yeah, thank you for watching!" I had to pause from the fucking whiplash this gave me but I'm pretty sure I loled. But anyways I spent most of a 2 hr long roadtrip listening to this video and it's given me a new perspective on you (you were just the gta5 guy before this), and a whole lot of respect. I've honestly always kinds liked react content, I think because I like lets plays, watching numerous lets playsof my favorite games and watching people react to my favorite parts. But as react content first started to get a bad rap (like jinx era) and I started to recognize low effort content for what it is, I stopped watching as much. Yet even recently I still watched people like charlie. But you made a very good case against this kind of content and these kinds of youtubers, and I can no longer stand to perpetuate it. It's refreshing to hear such well constructed arguments that are so clearly based on a passion for ethical content creation and like... i dont know, an actual genuine desire for a better fairer (in this instance, digital) world? Like it just sounds like you actually want the best outcome for the people and the creation marketplace, when it's hard to even come across people who want the best for everyone in REAL LIFE. I guess thats a longwinded way of saying that it's refreshing for someone to have strong morals for a change. That last bit was kind of soul crushing though because it's so human and relateable in a way I feel like only people who are actually just good honest people feel. There is an overwhelmong sense of a lack of justice in this world, and a lack of empathy or understanding from people who would even benefit from adopting these points of view. To be faced with that reality constantly... you're a stronger person than I.
As always, you made a good argument for something you feel passionate about. The only issue i have with it is at the end when you were wrapping up. You referred to it as cowardice, when earlier you said defeatist. Your not a coward and your not defeated. As with most of society, regardless of wherever you go, the nail that sticks out gets hammered the hardest. That's just a fact of life. The issue is, you targeted an issue that the top 1% of a platform and their supporters feel strongly about. People like Gabi only ride on the coattail of issues like these for their own benefit. Her hiding behind "Oh I have ADHD" means nothing when it comes to tossing your hat into a debate. Like you said, take more to to research, allow yourself more time to think on the topic or at the very least, don't just throw accusations around without even knowing what your even talking about. Having seen how content like hers and others get enabled and rewarded, while someone who does research and fully explains something gets passed over for being too long makes me feel we are moving more towards a certain movie that was meant to be a futuristic comedy. Idiocracy. People want to throw words out to get attention and get a small gain from it and then immediately dismiss everything that doesn't support themselves. After all, you don't need to think when your being told what to. Besides that though, i'm speaking to you as a man to man, you are a good man and picked something noble to fight for. I would have loved to be a content creator back when the platform originally started but living situations just couldn't handle it. I always wanted to put up videos but I knew I wouldn't have anything come of it because thousands and thousands of other people are doing the same. When one person at the top of the ladder can just look down at all of us and tell us to turn out our pockets, it makes you not even want to try because your hardwork benefits someone else. That's why I believe in your message and I do believe in you. My viewing of your content started with some interest in GTA 5 speedrun strats, but turned to actual viewership after that whole UnfriendlyBaron fiasco. Even if people get you down, just know you will still have atleast a handful of people like me who understand the message and understand the morals it takes to achieve something like what your fighting more.
These points are invalid. I would argue gaming content is lazier and more exploitative than reaction content and that was the first point he made in his previous video. In fact, that was the ENTIRE point of the video was how lazy and exploitative Reaction content is. Reaction content creators have to come up with a topic, write an essay about that topic, edit that essay down to manageable video length, and take several takes reading, memorizing, and editing the video with clips and other media to get their point across. It's a lot of work. Whereas with gaming, you have to find a mod (or pay someone to make one for you, not putting in any of the work yourself outside of a brief description), boot up your PC or console, load the mod in, and play. Not a lot to do there. And yet, gaming content is much more lucrative financially that reaction content cuz it's far more popular.
@@almond6520 Not trying to oversimplify your comment, but isn't your comment exactly what you stated a reaction content creator does? You reacted to my comment, came up with a topic, wrote on that topic, edited it (i can tell cause it shows edited on it) and then published it. All that is left out is the video aspects of it. Taking your point at face value however, your comparing the high end reacter to the low end content creator. While that is true and some do give full run downs on a whole video and actually discuss topics, if you need a script/essay to "react" to something then its more of a response then a reaction. As you continue to write, your opinion is open to change. Only way it stays a true reaction is if you stick to your rough draft and only edit grammatical errors. I also want to thank you for proving my point about immediately dismissing something when it doesn't fit your own narrative. Calling the points invalid just because you disagree is incredibly reductive. Until you get the person to agree their own point was wrong, it stays a valid point. As for the gaming part, why do you need to find a mod? Yah Minecraft, Skyrim, Fallout and other heavily mod-able games can get continuous clicks out of it. But look at the Soulsbourne community, JRPG community, battle royal games, and tower defense games like LoL and DotA. Not everything is modded and a lot of the multiplayer videos are vanilla unless mods are client side. Playing something different then everyone else or being charismatic enough to maintain an audience is a bigger part in the gaming content creation format. Don't take this as a means of me disrespecting you by the way. I am open to discussion and will treat you like your fully reasonable. These are just my own opinions after all. In saying that, I do want to thank you for you engagement!
I rarely ever comment on any videos but your work on your entire react series has been phenomenal. We share hatred over misinformation and I love how you displayed all of your points throughout even when dealing with ridiculous "arguments" thrown your way which would have given me a meltdown. At the end of your video when you talk about the frustrations and even the feeling of hopelessness when unable to deal with people who are "selfish" and only care about themselves, never give up the fight for what you believe in and standing your ground no matter how frustrated you get. Even with the many misrepresentations of your essay and react series as a whole I believe it has done a lot of good, maybe not to the level you would prefer, but good nonetheless which isn't something many people can.
It’s not cowardice. You know better than anyone how bad burn out can be when you aren’t seeing the progress you’re making. But the world got a little bit better today because of you. And I think that’s brilliant. Thank you
None of Gabi's videos ever struck me as feminist. They always had a seed of "everything is pandering and virtue signalling" to me. She even constantly complains about Captain Marvel like most chuds with nothing to say.
@@kylespevak6781 Just because they are big words you don't understand does not mean they're improperly used, though I took issue with the claim Gabi was a feminist she is _literally_ arguing for a trickle down economics model of video consumption.
It's a sad reality that a person can just spew bullshit claims within a few minutes but it takes way longer to dispute those bullshit claims . People have just enough attention span to eat up the bullshit claims but not enough to watch someone present the real and nuanced facts about the subject
Also the fact that everything is so black and white to people is really bugging me nowadays. Like gabi groups every sort of "reaction" / response video into the same group as if there isn't a HUGE difference for example between xqc sitting quietly watching a youtube video and someone making a transformative video in response to someone else's video.
gabi thinks xQc putting on a video while going to take a shit is in the same category as criticism videos like content cop highlighting the wrongdoings of people and making comedy sketches from it or someone making an 8 hour video essay review on a show carefully explaining the niches, references and subtleties. and groups them all together as "react content". she isnt doing this by accident or anything either she knows this isnt what matt's actually talking about she just wants an easy dunk and wants to frame him as the bad guy without doing any effort.
tbh i watched gabi's video when it came out and then just went with it and assumed she was right despite some parts seeming iffy to me (especially bcus it seemed like the majority opinion). i went into watching this video thinking "oh this is that one guy lets see what happens," but about 10 minutes in my brain kinda boggled as i realized that no, actually, you're right. gabi's video set me up to view you in an uncharitable light and yet you argued your point so well i couldn't justify brushing it off. i stopped watching her a while ago when she put out a video about AI art because her take on it was so ignorant to the point where it was honestly offensive to me, a painter that spends hundreds of hours on individual pieces. that should've been an indicator about the merit of the rest of her content to me.
Yeah, I think overall this guy was right. The hyperbole about SA and reaction content wasn't okay, and while he didn't say it directly he definitely implied it which is incredibly inappropriate. I also disagree that all reaction content is bad because it's stealing hours of work, like sure someone reacting to a clip of a kid tripping that got 10,000 up votes of Reddit is "stealing". I don't recall him addressing any nuances like that, but the video is over an hour long so maybe I missed something.
@@demetriam2408 There are transformative types of reaction content, but that winds up becoming "commentary" more than "reaction" content. A good example is Corridor Crew's VFX Artists/Stuntmen/Animator's react series, which serves not as a replacement for one thing but discussion place for admiration/pointing-and-laughing at multiple things. The colloquial definition of reaction content being "someone sitting and watching one thing, and occasionally pausing to give thoughts" is what's harmful; THAT was always Matt's argument. He just uses a blanket term (admittedly incorrectly depending on the context) "reaction content" to talk about the kind that's so overly prevalent. Only thing to say about the sexual assault/harassment thing is that it wasn't what the final argument turned out to be. There's no defending it, and I don't fully know why Matt still tries to.
@@AlphaStormMusic I definitely think that is the main flaw of his argument, his definition of reaction content isn't reaction content, per se. He's specifically excluding "good" types of reaction content through an arbitrary definition for the purpose of a hyperbolic argument. Instead of saying "non-transformative reaction content" and then classifying what level of reacting he considers to be transformative, it feels like he picks and chooses for the sake of saying that all reaction content is bad. Why is discussion not considered reacting? If laughing at clips is considered reacting, what about "try not to laugh" challenges? Does he consider those just as harmful and just didn't bring it up because he didn't consider it to fit his definition? Again, what if the content isn't transformative and without effort? Does that change anything? I just wish he addressed his argument with the nuance this debate deserves. It's not a human rights issue, it's art, content, discussions, all of those have a spectrum of quality and a required nuance to think about.
@@demetriam2408 Now we're on the same page, with a few things to consider. Indulge me here. In my mind, "reaction content" has always been "non-transformative reaction content" BUT only because it was so prevalently a problem when Jinx was big, that was all I knew it to be. There was no Corridor Crew VFX Artists react at the time; once you got to the point of actually talking about the video with long cutaways, it was commentary. I can't speak on the part of anyone, that's just how I always knew it, until Corridor came along. I admit it is narrowminded, and that's why I agree that it's important to define reaction content in categories. With this in mind, try not to laugh challenges are a different kind of reaction content as the transformative part is the creator's ability to not laugh at a clip and move on. And even then, the clips are so short that even if there were a problem of "stealing" or what have you, the clips themselves are so easy to make in and of themselves that the argument of "hours and hours of work to make a video" falls down. The effort put into a single funny clip on the internet is probably equal to the effort of reacting to it. It is inherently, by definition, reaction content, but it is a transformative type, by nature of it being a challenge. Reaction content, to me becomes transformative, if and only if it does not serve as a complete replacement for the original. The kind of content that xQc, Critikal, Ludwig, Asmongold, and others have made is an example of non-transformative reaction content. Even if they pause to give thoughts at various points, that is not enough to make it transformative, they still are reuploading the original video in full with their face on it. You could cut out the points where they give thoughts and it's still the same video.. Transformative reaction content is that which Corridor Crew does, as it looks at specific scenes in movies, TV shows, or even internet short films and discusses how certain effects were done and the brilliance or shoddiness of them. It doesn't serve as a replacement for the original, you're only seeing a small part of an entire work. Once more, I agree it is unfair to refer to reaction content so generally when in reality it is, as you say, more nuanced than that.
@@demetriam2408 I'd implore you to seek out the original script and read it for yourself. He never made a comparison between sexual assault and reaction content, he was using an analogy to attack a POINT. Asmongold, Hasan, someone like that said "I reached out to [insert channel they stole off] after I made my reaction video, and they said it was ok to do, so why do you have a problem with it." DVAU used the analogy to attack the idea that much like sex, it is asinine to believe that you can gain consent for something AFTER already doing it. It would be like me saying "hey @demetrian8448 can I borrow $100," and when you say yes, I inform you I had already taken it out of your wallet.
I used to be as well because I’d usually turn my mind off and have her go in the background while I played games or something. Makes it hard to really notice any sort of dishonesty.
Yeah I had her video recommended to me as a result of that whole thing. She very clearly came off as a stan of react creators and that’s exactly where her arguments came from. I thought about posting a comment in response but realised it didn’t matter. Stans will believe their favorites are benevolent good people. Especially when you’re a stan, you think your fav noticing you is the highlight of your life so they think everyone should be grateful for getting their favs attention so ‘exposure’ is peak returns
Yeah, same. I feel like she’s a literal who and by making this content about her he actually helps this girl to get attention (not the kind of attention she wants tho) and a small portion of her viewers will be biased (to a degree), thinking that her content is being just random bs and it is being justified by her alleged ADHD. I’ve seen people fake DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder a.k.a Multiple Identity Disorder) and it’s just gross. The channel creator that did it actually did it very well and I bought into it (mainly because of an interview with another big content creator), and I still do think that their ADHD is legit, I just respect other people opinions in that regard. TLDR That girl is a literal who and DViper is tarnishing her image for a good reason
@@justiceplay3518I mean you'd probably run across her if you were familiar with names around Danny Gonzalez, who was mentioned. As someone with ADHD, I had a chuckle at the idea of going into a meeting with my boss or a company director to present some disjointed, messy, underproduced work and after they were done rightfully tearing apart I just respond with "ooppsie poopsie ADHD brain lol". As if a condition that is mildly frustrating at best is an excuse to not do your job to a sufficient standard.
Same. I was diagnosed with ADHD as kid, and have recently also been facing low blood sugar problems (hypoglycemia) leading to me being fatigued all the time. Yet I still outperform all my peers, with only making a few mistakes once in a while. An honest hardworking person would never let their disorders and disabilities be an excuse for their own shortcomings. People like Gabi disgust me
I mean, AD(H)D can be more than just "mildly infuriating" it can be legit hampering your workflow and results. @@galaxygamermanwhile I agree with what you’re saying, there are some disorders and disabilities that prevent people from being as successful as they could be.
26:30 This is the same as saying "These dumb farmers are so bad, they need an entire year to grow their crops, even though I can go to the market and take everything instantly for free and run away! I am so tired of these peasants whining the entire time about their "grueling work in the fields", like come on, stop whining!"
Gabi was one of those creators I saw a few videos by because they auto played, but once I actually paid attention I saw how poorly researched and argued her videos were. The video in particular that stuck out to me was her video on nostalgia. In this video she mentions vinyl records and made a statement which went along the lines of: "People only collect them for the artwork and don't play them". This may be true for her and the few records she was given by her family members, but I have spent a lot of time in that particular hobby and talked to a lot of people about stereo equipment and the like. It came off to me as her disregarding an alternate perspective/interest because she could not see how anyone could not view the world the same as she did. Of course vinyl records are not that serious of a topic in the grand scheme of things, but her flagrant disregard of the subject spoke volumes to the way she conducts herself in general. To me she comes off as someone who has some maturing to do and someone who spends a lot of time online and makes everything us vs. them because of internet culture. Sometimes friends make terrible takes, sometimes people you dislike say something profound, there is room in the world to acknowledge both.
shes just another creator fodder trying to capitalise of spouting articulated sounding statements ontop of other contemporary issues being talked about by other drama relevant creators. Just another attempt at a matrix manipulation in order to profit 🤧
Right... she so smrt. the decades of info compiled about cheap good sounding turntables are just for people to pretend they listen to records. It's so obvious. Here I was thinking my record player needed to work.
@@brandonolney7936 bro lmao you actually play those things? Clearly they are just frisbees and turntables fitted with specialty cartridges are just for show!
As someone who, maybe naïvely, tries to make the world a better place, it becomes easier to face the challenge of malicious, dishonest actors when I'm met with people who thank me for helping them. I've come to appreciate the smaller things throughout my life! Also, even if Gabi does have A.D.H.D, her use of it as an excuse to be dishonest and lazy makes me annoyed!
Learn from evolution. Herbivores(plant eaters) harm plants for their growth and the only way to control their numbers before they eat every plant based item is to introduce carnivores(herbivores hunters). Something similar can be done here although I don't exactly know what.
I often take inspiration from your resilliance Matto. Whether it be the ridiculous misrepresentations of this drama, the commitment to speedrunning back in the day, or even constantly picking yourself up again to have another attempt at OHKO. Me and your audience genuinely admire you for that, and I hope that's communicated to you enough ❤
I honestly wish I could like this video multiple times... It's so good, insanely well edited, the pacing is really good and i found myself laughing multiple times because of how much you destroy her "points" xD I can not fathom how people can be this ignorant and not understand your points. It makes me mad to know, some people will not watch this in it's entirety and walk away still thinking reactions are fine and hating on you, just because you were brave enough to speak the truth. But even then... This was entertaining to watch and I'm sure there will be a few people who's minds you can change on the topic :) I wish you a wonderful day Matto.
I got a rant of yours about the JacksFilms situation recommended to me and I decided to watch your entire series on reaction content, and I admire the way you can articulate yourself and present your points in a very clear manner, so it shocks me that so many people didn't understand what you were saying. I also like that you stick to your guns with your analogies against people who don't understand what an analogy is and would rather be angry instead. It's also refreshing that you call people out directly by name and go hard on them, so many people are too obsessed with "optics" or "trying not to cause drama" to make a good video. It crazy how Gabi just straight up said to not watch your video but to watch hers instead because you "won't be missing anything". It makes me think that she's way more malicious than she seems. It almost makes it sound like it was worded intentionally to be like a "tee hee this guy hates reacts because it takes away views from the creators of original videos, so let me directly tell my audience to not watch the original video".
I watched Gabi’s video prior to this one and I was 100% one of the viewers that was just going along with what she said, having no prior knowledge of anything the video was going over. There were a couple parts throughout her video early on that made me do a second take, especially her take on there NOT being a finite number of impressions. Because that’s just straight up wrong. And then her going on to say people who watch reaction or commentary videos will only benefit the people who made the original content. Because that’s not 100% true either. I watch a lot of commentary videos (not reactions, they’re boring, and I appreciate the effort commentary creators put into the work to make it more interesting). I can say 90% of the time I’m not going to watch the original content if I hadn’t already watched it prior to seeing the commentary video. Because I’m there to watch the commentator, not the original content. I would assume it’s even WORSE for reactionary content creators because they literally just steal the original content and do not give any effort into their videos. So what incentive does the audience have to watch the original content? They’ve already seen it. Then Gabi pressed HARD on your hyperbole to sexual assault. That resonated with me hard as I’m a survivor of sexual assault. And ngl, with how Gabi presented you in the video, it made me absolutely hate you in the moment. And I went along with the rest of the video resenting you while agreeing with Gabi. As you know “people like to hate more than they like to like” and what not. Then I ended the video and went to the comments and was very surprised to see they were overwhelmingly negative against Gabi. This got me intrigued and I had to look into it. And I found this response video. And I watched it all. And I’ve got to say, I very much appreciate the thoroughness you put into this response. You’ve explained your points and counterpoints greatly and I have a much better understanding of the situation than I ever could’ve with Gabi’s video. So thank you. As an artist I empathize with your struggle of content stealing very much so. Especially with the rise of AI “Art” (which apparently Gabi also made a controversial video about, but I haven’t watched it). After watching your video, I whole heartedly agree with your point. I have not read your essay, and I honestly probably won’t ever as I have a small brain and don’t want to read an essay that I’m already going to agree with. But I have watched this video and I hope I give you a little bit of hope that the people that watched her video originally do have the ability to change their views once watching yours. Your points against reactionary content is not hard to understand, what is hard is to overcome biased which Gabi does not seem capable of as is obvious in her video. TL;DR Gabi’s video is full of hatred and misinformation and it’s easy to get lost in. Having now watched yours I wholeheartedly agree with your points and counterpoints. I hope this gives a little bit of hope that some viewers have the ability to change (in reference to your wrap up).
As a fan of both you and Gabi, this video makes me question how many times she has lied and completely misrepresented information to me. If she does it to you, how many of her other videos are full of lies and half-truths? I guess I won't be watching her content anymore
Honestly DarkViper's argument is so compelling that my opinion on multiple topics has changed since researching this whole "drama saga". I never questioned the moral implications of react content, and upon being asked what those moral implications are, I saw things a completely different way
@@ThePhantom4516 ugh yeah the amount of videos of hers I've gone back to be like "wait... huh?" is pretty striking. I liked her stuff but in hindsight it just feels fake.
saying "a popular streamer reacting to your video is good because some of their audience may start to watch your videos" is like saying "if you work for free you will gain work experience which may help in the process of seeking a job".
The pacing of this video is incredibly well done, I didn't even realize it was over an hour until i finished watching, kept me hooked all the way through
As somebody who has watched and enjoyed both of your content, Gabi is definitely in the wrong here. Over the course of her video she slowly and meticulously weeds out all of the nuance in the points you've made, and turns your argument into 'anybody who makes anything even slightly referential to anything else is scum', and then proceeds to 'debunk' it. I'm confident in saying that she only made this video because she personally dislikes you and wanted to push the narrative even further and squeeze some AdSense out of the topic.
35:04 did she just say the reactors are more skilled than the original artists, and therefore are able to output the "same quality" content at a much faster pace?? Oooooor was that an absolute dogshit analogy showing only that she has no idea what she's talking about?
“If you cant react to a video and speak about the bad things people are doing, then what kind of world would we be living in” Hoollyy shit that ONE part of this whole video perfectly summarizes her inability to tell a very simple difference between REACT content and commentary content. Actual brainworms.
If an argument can be made that the achievement of 300k is a direct result of the 3m, then I would disagree that this fact by itself is why her point is terrible. The point is rather invalidated by, well, everything else the Matto talks about in his discussions of reaction content.
"like what is this even", well it's a very easy to understand argument if you actually took the 15 minutes it'd take to read the document and stop being an ignorant ass but oh well, ignorance is bliss I suppose
1:23:09 onwards hit me hard. i've been stuck with the same thoughts about other issues in life, personally, and in the wider world. honestly, it's like someone basically thought the exact same words as me. it's quite comforting knowing i'm not the only one with such struggles, however it's good to see that you're making a conscious effort to combat people like gabi and misinformation in general. you may not think so, but i can confidently say that a number of people who watched this will now understand your perspective. great video as always.
I am learning photography and videography, and was watching Gabi's video on Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares, which I enjoyed. I was bothered, however, by the fact that the video (and some of her other videos) keep going out of focus. I googled the topic to see if anyone had made a video about that--not to be petty, but simply because I want to learn how to avoid that. In the search, this video popped up. Currently, I'm working my way through your video. Only at 14:22 right now. I had never considered your point of view, and I'm really thinking hard about it. "react" vs "response." What is provoking me to respond right now is Gabi's comment on your "14 page manifesto." Like, I wrote 20 page papers in college back in the early 2000s, and 20-30 page papers in my Master's program mid-2000s. A 14 page paper is...an average-sized article, paper, or essay. A manifesto, in my mind, is a rambling essay that is tens of pages...this tl;dr generation is destroying our society.
I WAS WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO MAKE A VIDEO ON HER! Never expected that you would be the one, but still amazing! lets go! There are issues with her btw that are more broadly applicable to her channel as a whole, being a general hypocrite, being biased, and cherry picking stuff to suit her narratives are a few of those issues. I'm glad you are calling out these people!
Who th cares, one dude who plays video games for a living made a pointless irrelevant video about other guys who are making pointless irrelevant video too. Oh also he’s angry so you can empathise with him.
The part where she tried to justify that watching react content puts the original content in the suggestion bar showed that she truly didn't understand how a suggestion algorithm works. She began by on an INCOGNITO page searching up the react channel name and the original channel name. If you have learned basic logic in school you would understand that the algorithm for a 'completely new person' would suggest videos maching the first and only search which happen to be the react and the original channel names.
try the exact same same, but instead of Ordinary Sausage, use Charlies reaction to Cooking with Jack or Kay's Cooking. For both of these channels, their videos will not show up in your recommended, at least not for me, neither on my account nor in an incognito tab, that point is provably false. Ordinary Sausage is the exception, not the rule, and shouldn't be taken as a measure of "how it works" at all. But let's pretend in this fantasy world that it's somehow guaranteed the original creator will show up in the recommended of a reaction video. Even then, the reaction video will still win out, since it has a popular figure slapped onto it while the original does not, charlie fans of course will now choose Charlie's reaction over the original. Had this been a shoutout, this wouldn't be a problem. Hell, even just showing half instead of the full thing would've left value on the table that the viewers can only get by going to the original.
Damn, this is a verbal beat down lol you know we are living in the worst TH-cam timeline when these folks not only can bald face defend their positions, but truly believe they are in the right. We need to bring back the Jinx shaming era mentality. The “just my opinion” is the commentary community’s “not financial advice” - just because you say it doesn’t mean there aren’t ramifications for your words and actions.
I expect some people won't make it to the end of the video so I want to give some of my closing thoughts here as well:
It is hard to explain how demoralising it is to to read the comments on the original video and see how so many were taken in by this woman's lies and honestly child-like arguments.

@@idaniluz652 If she had done that to Matts video, her video might have actually been more accurate.
Meanwhile having a script with what they say, showing what they said and arguing against it means that my viewers will be show better counter points without having to go through them talking in circles

her misuse of ADHD to justify her lack of work for her own video despises me so much, you have no idea
very annoying to see as a person with ADHD to have her just equate everyone with ADHD to that low standard
Agreed. ADHD is a reason, but not an excuse. If you want to cite a neurological disorder for not having done the research, fine - but at the same time, that doesn't give you a free pass to completely skip past that step and go straight to drawing conclusions.
Everyone knows everything ever written on paper has been less than 13 pages, matto was out of line clicking on a new page while writing that
and even then 14 pages can equal a lot longer depending on certain factors
And 14 pages isn't even fairly long for an essay. It's about average, but they seem to be operating off of middle school standards of what an essay is.
Unfortunately people these days are so anti reading, it would take them an hour or more and still not be able to grasp the message they just read themselves without someone available to explain it or summarise it for them.

Danny, Kurtis, Drew, Jarvis etc are what I call Commentary
They always present the premise of what they're commenting, forming points (even if they are wrapped in humour), and then conclude of what's the reasoning behind their content... There's always a premise, a point, and a conclusion... All formed into a script
Commentary can be bad, but Commentary isn't at all low effort.
Because she didn't read the essay or watch the video. It's that simple.
I thought the same thing, She's merely using her broad definition of "reaction" she created when she made the "DarkViper made a reaction video" comment. This is also lazy. Any chance the article was from how to geek? They have an article about the spotify shuffle and it is VERY similar
@@noctis4585 oh like a million publications have basically copy pasted the article, the original is on Spotify's own website in a blog from 2014
You've honestly convinced me to stop watching reactions, even though it's difficult with how much of it there is on the platform and how addictive it can be to watch...it's just so shitty when you realize how damaging it can be.
Same I used to watch alot of react channels but after the drama I stopped and it was pretty good since it got me off my phone more so win win
just look at whatever title the video's reacting to and look that up instead
I have the single easiest fix for this: Don't recommend this channel.
You might've heard of this before and even use it, but might not realize that it pretty much solves the issue of react content for yourself. The way the algorithm works is that if a video you'd be interested in has a reaction, both the reaction and the original are likely to appear for you since they target the almost same audience (since they're... the same god damn video!). This way, if you exclude reaction channels, you'll receive the originals first and foremost. I'm talking from personal experience, I've been getting so many "viral" videos in their original form before reactors ever pop up for me.
That being said, I wouldn't recommend using "Not interested" on reaction videos because the algorithm will assume you don't like the original video's topic.
honestly the only “reaction” type stuff i watch is people watching movies for the first time
its kinda fun to see young people watch all my old favorite movies with a new set of eyes
Just grab a friend to watch with you.
Watching this is like seeing a dad explain reality to his toddler.
At least toddlers have an excuse for not understanding things, unlike her.
Great analogy
Hearing her bring up Danny Gonzalez and Kurtis Conner is hilarious since they not only do plenty of original content but their content involving other people's works is critical in nature, using the video as a talking point which is not only fair use but transformative in nature.
The way she is describing reaction content, she'd probably say Siskel and Ebert made reaction content
@@joedav67 She'd probably say IGN articles are reaction content from the sound of it!

If you are robbing people, you will try to argue that robbing is ok.

@@5minutemovies977 You know what's funny? She literally says that she read the essay, lmfao!
I'd also like to add that if you ever watch a react stream, the chat goes haywire every time they pause the video, telling them to shut up and resume. Reinforcing the idea that the people do not care about the streamers "personality", but they are there to watch the video they are stealing.
This is a great point.
To which he fervently tells them to go leave for wanting him to just watch the thing instead of react and respond to it
I watched XQC just for the Kitchen Nightmares, lol.
How dare these people use freedom of speech as an argument in this context, this has nothing to do with free speech, and people using this as an argument in this context, discredit freedom of speech as an argument in correct contexts
Also, I think you did an incredible job explaining this, if she bothers to actually listen to your argument now then I cannot possibly see how she wouldn't understand your points

Yes, I should have noted that, but my interests are rarely on the impact of one video on another. Would have been a good point.
I really don't get it
Exactly, someone like Danny or Chad Chad do not fall under Reaction channels
its likely that she knows that, and is using it as a strawman. She's basically saying "ok you hate reaction content, like xqc, and Danny Gonzalez, why would you hate Danny Gonzalez?" obviously they aren't in the same category of content, but by putting Danny there, it inherently makes xqc look better because no one would criticize Dannys content
its actually perfect that she complained about long videos and gets a 90 minute response video lmao
Im sorry but does kurtis conner not react to tik tok videos at all? What are you even talking about lol.
Danny kurtis and drew are all commentary channels not react channels
@evilkittens9 thats not what his channel focuses on. Yes hes made some. But hes made alot more commentary videos. Scripted videos about other content. Not just sitting back watching a video with an occasional pause to say hur hur that was funny duuuuuh
You are immensely clever & well spoken. People underestimate you and i love watching you make those people look extremely stupid.

That's what I hate about the internet you make a mistake or do something wrong and you get crucified without a second chance
They call him an angry lunatic to undermine that under the angry tone there's actually intelligent shit being said. They rather focus on the thing that doesn't matter at all to the point of what he's saying. I don't give a fuck if somebody is angrily explaining something. Most people would have completely snapped years ago. He's definitely handled it better than most, me included. Stupid people make me irrationally pissed off.
The fact that her sister's comment literally contradicts something she was arguing for is absolutely hilarious
And me.
“as a man to a man” bruh what does being a man have to do with any of this 💀
@cassandrat5394 it's a figure of speech, talking mono y mono. If your making this a sexist thing then that a you issue.
I cannot begin to tell you how satisfying this was. Calling out this genre of creators needs to become a thing.
It’s not cowardice. You know better than anyone how bad burn out can be when you aren’t seeing the progress you’re making.
But the world got a little bit better today because of you. And I think that’s brilliant.

Listening to somebody argue for trickle down economics in the name of feminism was just wild
None of Gabi's videos ever struck me as feminist. They always had a seed of "everything is pandering and virtue signalling" to me. She even constantly complains about Captain Marvel like most chuds with nothing to say.
@@billbill6094 Marvel is pandering and virtue signaling lmao. Captain Marvel is a peak Mary Sue. Cry about it I guess.

Gotta love one of the most based content creators making an 1.5 hour video essay about someone I've never even heard of

Me and your audience genuinely admire you for that, and I hope that's communicated to you enough ❤

It's so good, insanely well edited, the pacing is really good and i found myself laughing multiple times because of how much you destroy her "points" xD
I can not fathom how people can be this ignorant and not understand your points.
It makes me mad to know, some people will not watch this in it's entirety and walk away still thinking reactions are fine and hating on you, just because you were brave enough to speak the truth.
But even then... This was entertaining to watch and I'm sure there will be a few people who's minds you can change on the topic :)
I wish you a wonderful day Matto.

I'm confident in saying that she only made this video because she personally dislikes you and wanted to push the narrative even further and squeeze some AdSense out of the topic.

this part made me scream at my monitor
Her point with sasuage man is terrible because the moist critical video has 3+ million views where as the original has only 300 thousand
If an argument can be made that the achievement of 300k is a direct result of the 3m, then I would disagree that this fact by itself is why her point is terrible. The point is rather invalidated by, well, everything else the Matto talks about in his discussions of reaction content.
