JAMES IRVINE I’d take the 10 over a champions league group stage any day of the week. We need to improve greatly because let’s be honest most teams in the league are improving and have our number completely - they know how to play us and we have been extemely lucky to not drop countless points under Lennon. Of course I will back him but there is no way someone can convince me he will improve us - we aren’t significantly worse off under him but as long as the huns continue to improve the 10 will look less and less likely. The decision to make Lennon manager isn’t bad in itself but it pretty much guarantees no investment again this season. They have chosen the cheap option yet again and we will see a lot of players leave and very few adequate replacements signed. I really want to believe in Lennon and I think we can still win the treble again next year, but the mentality that Rodgers was a one off will absolutely kill the club in the long run. We need to maintain the standard that he brought to the club and as much as I adore Lenny as a man and a Celt he represents a board that is not willing to take Celtic to the next level.

However, my point was that we need to forget about Europe right now as winning the league is no longer a guantee. In all honesty, we could’ve lost the league this year if we hadn’t gotten lucky the way we did at times. Of course it’s always good to score late goals to win games but we should aim to maintain the form of past seasons when we weren’t scraping wins of bottom 6 sides but demolishing them. Under Lennon - regardless of investment - I think we will play next season with the same tactics and consequently getting the same results. I know that Lenny “won the treble” but come on we were miles ahead in the league ( Lennon shortened the gap) and had already won the league cup and were already in the later stages of the cup run. He is absolutely a Celtic man but he is not an improvement on Brendan Rodgers - in my eyes any managerial appointment that isn’t an improvement on the last is a waste and a step backwards. Was up and down with it but Lenny is the right choice for now. No point getting a Rafa type in with this board.
