We used to visit Morecambe once a year when on Holiday in the Lakes. This was of course when Frontier land, cinema's on the front etc was open, happy days. It did then go through years of decline BUT over the last 10 years dramatic changes have happened! The Promenade is beautifully kept with all sorts going on. The Midland is a Gem yes, but there are also other hotels, restaurants and bars worth a visit. Yes there are some run down area's, as there are in any town or city so don't judge Morecambe on this video alone. Happy mount park is lovely and really coming back to life. The beaches are clean and have good sand. Heysham at the southern end is lovely with lovely coastal walks as has Hest bank at the North end. Well worth a visit. Oh, and no I don't live there, my parents live in Carnforth so we go about once a month and enjoy every time. I think your video is beautifully shot by the way but just didn't show the full potential Morecambe has.
Great vid... many memories of morecambe. Frontierland and fish and chips followed by Happy mount park and watching the trains at Hest Bank. Beautiful views of The Lakes to! 👍🏻
I went here on Holiday for a week in 1978 with my Mum and Dad and sister., I was heaving and full of things to do like taking our Dingy into the sea water pool next to Sandylands promenade, Marineworld, big markets, gift shops, arcades everywhere ,Frontierland, putting green, Cinema, etc etc loads, think we went to see Jaws 2 here! Been to Blackpool since and often thought about going for a visit with my family but have seen lots of Videos on TH-cam etc like this one about Morecambe since and i must admit it don't look inviting, so i guess my memories of the summer of 1978 will stay put in my head for now ! Sadly its like towns everywhere in the UK suffering from lack of investment while the fat cats get ritcher
My Tony and i, spent regular days out, to Morcombe! There was a lovely old fashioned sweet shop, called Pedders, along the front and the sweets were yummy yum yum! Thank you for another lovely vlog, Stephen! xxxx
A bit of a change it's been about 9 years since I have visited Morecambe interesting to view this video love the seaside towns it looks like the town needs an injection of investment no disrespect to it at all this was a great seaside town remember the pontins holiday camp such great happy holidays there back in the day. Another good video sir.top draw.
Sad to see all these once great seaside resorts rotting away call me old fashioned but I would rather have a holiday in britain than go abroad on a cheap package holiday anyday
I’m late catching this one but a great video sir as always 👍 I have never been to Morecambe before, what I do like is how you show the back streets to these places which then shows a true reflection. Another very enjoyable watch.
Morecambe was a nice quiet place to visit in the 90s. It had it's own fair, the revolving polo tower and far more shops.... then the fair went, the shops went and now it's a ghost town. The hotel costs a fortune for a room and is overpriced as there is nothing much to do in the area. I went to morecambe around 18 months ago and apart from the army surplus shop there is nothing much else there.
I used to goto Morecambe every year on holiday. Since Frontierland has gone it went down hill. I went back about 5 years ago it does look nice on the front but there isnt much to do for a full day out for the kids sadly! It is a very well kept sea front, just needs some attractions to get people coming back. I still go once a year for a chilled day out and to stroll down memory lane! The bar on the front inside the midland hotel is nice but very expensive!
This film is not a true picture of the town. Like all seaside towns it is made by its visitors and as I live in Morecambe I can tell you that in the summer it gets so busy you can hardly get in the place at times. This film was taken early in the day when only the likes of Wetherspoons were open and it was also in the grip of the Covid emergency. The weeds in the streets were bad but they were worse than normal because of Lancashire County Councils cuts and staff had been diverted to other duties because of Covid. There are many pretty parts of Morecambe that were not featured. As the film maker said, he doesn't know the town.
My vids are meant to show warts & all. I show the good and the not so good. One video isn't going to be a fair representation, I know. If I go back I will try something different.
So sad to see these once great British seaside towns fall into decline...it's sad for the people living there too they deserve better....the council and planners have got it so wrong
Visited Morcome last year first time ever also seen the statue of Eric got some good photos .. We was staying in Blackpool at he time for a short weeks break..👨🏼🦱👍🏼
Wow, not exactly a promo video for Morecambe as a holiday destination but good to watch. I was thinking of booking the Midland Hotel for our wedding anniversary when lockdown is eased as we too love Art Deco. Looks like it is the ONLY jewel in the crown of Morecambe. As an avid photographer, I should get some decent and interesting images from around there if we go. Might take some weed killer, looks as though it would be welcome !
Hello there another enjoyable veiwing n Very interesting good camera Thank you for sharing your video cheers take care see you soon, big bad Bob stage name?.
Visited morecambe every year during latest 60s to late 70s when I was a child had some brilliant times. Unfortunately last time I was there in 2008 I was amazed how much it had gone down, sorry no other words to describe it but what a shithole!! Another top video though stephen
it seems to me that the council does not care about the apearence of the town, flag stones covered in grass ect shame on them, what do they spend there money on???, as a child my parent used to take me on holiday to morcame every year, it was so much cleaner smarter full of happy looking people and they used to be a ship mored up , called the moby dick until sime dickhead burnt it down. great video steve . cheers sepuk from yorks.
great video place defo needs some money thrown at it i visited long time ago 91? wasn't great either there was a small theme park that looked a bit run down.
Morecambe is, sadly, very underrated, add a pier to it and it's as good a place to go as Brighton It's improving from where it was before, but there is a lot of work still to do (especially in the West End)
Booked to go to Morecambe in late March 2021 with my 2 friends, staying at The Auckland Hotel we were looking forward to it but your vlog has put us off a bit, but too late now to cancel we've paid for it. 😞
I have just had a couple of nights @ the Auckland Hotel, lovely staff ,great food, spotlessly clean, fantastic views over Morecambe bay, don't cancel you will enjoy it.
Good old Morecambe, was fun growing up there with lots of amenities open. Eden project will be a game changer 🤞 Lancaster city council have a lot to be blamed for with the demise of this once beautiful town x "beauty surrounds & health abounds" was the marketing message back in the day x good luck Morecambe for the future x
Thanks for the video... it’s such a shame that collectively the residents can’t tidy things up... there’s such potential in a post covid environment for places like Morecambe to thrive... as people find the ability to work from home or away from the cities. Just want to see residents get off their backsides and take some pride in their town.
Poverty leads to health ineqaulities of its people. Morcombe council need to fight good sn hard for regeneration like rhly did. Fight for what is rightly yours
I think this is an unfortunately cumbersome presentation of selected parts of Morecambe. Perhaps the subject matter was surgically selected to show the area in its worst possible light or perhaps you haphazardly took a stroll around the most underprivileged areas by pure accident. I think the former is by far the most likely. Your home town of Blackpool certainly has its fair share of areas of neglect that don't illustrate the town to its fullest and most colourful extent. I'm not really sure what your intention was here but you've certainly done the town a significant disservice. With this in mind, I've not afforded my time to looking at any of your other videos but I'm hoping for your children's sake you've not taken the same approach there. Although I'm not from Morecambe (I'm from Lancaster) I can see a determined effort from the council, many members of the public and nd many defects ambassadors (including the likes of Tyson Fury) that have endorsed the town tirelessly with the view to transitioning from just another coastal casualty of cheap international travel to something of which we can all be truly proud. Important decisions are to be made in the coming months regarding the Eden Project and the place is truly deserving of an attraction that will draw in the public in order to support the local economy and introduce the true beauty of the area to a while new audience - a beauty sadly absent from your coverage. Like all areas of the UK, Morecambe has its problems and areas that are less photogenic. Perhaps you could redress the balance upon your next visit?
The video is titled Back to Front. It's an early video in my 'career' of vlogging, but my style is to show all sides of places I visit, where possible. I do the same in my hometown of Blackpool, where I show some of the most rundown streets we have, but it's more to highlight the problems we have. If I just waltz up & down the promenade showing all the best stuff & ignoring the worst, it'll probably get boring. Viewers like to see all sides.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool Thank you for your response. If its an early video in your vlogging career I trust that you've somewhat improved your balance. Adequate balance needs research which was clearly lacking from your early effort so my assumption is that you've applied yourself to undertake more than just a walkaround the area of interest merely looking for distasteful elements or vulnerable parts of society to highlight in a negative way. I wish you the best of luck in future endeavours but cordially invite you to spend some time with me so we can share the more positive parts of the Lancaster and Morecambe areas as well as the parts that are berift of attention or investment. Given that you're so close in Blackpool, I'll also be happy to pick you up and drop you off...

Heysham, the home of the nuclear power plant. Not exactly a place you want to visit, unless you want to come out glowing!
The old Woolworths buildings behind the Midland are also Art Deco.
I from Morecambe and I loved it when I was growing up I go back there to see family and friends and it just brings back good old memory’s
Great vid... many memories of morecambe. Frontierland and fish and chips followed by Happy mount park and watching the trains at Hest Bank. Beautiful views of The Lakes to! 👍🏻
I lived in Morecambe on West End Road while studying at Lancaster Univ in the mid-80s. Thank you for the awesome video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Morecambe is so quiet. I loved the video.
Thanks.

Born in Morecambe 1956, left for NZ 1993... that is the sadest thing I have ever seen
My birthplace. Aww it looks a run down place now. Born on Clarence street in the sixties. Left when I was 11.

Its the old Lido where the Eden Project (May be) The Jetty used to be a HUGE ship breaking jetty!
What a sad looking place. I think it needs a bit more spending on than just the Eden Project
Uk seaside towns been die from 1980s. Some amazing people and places in uk.

you wanna try lancaster it's a beautifil place

johnny mac That was probably Frontierland. Been closed a good while. I’ll probably include it in my next video when next up there.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool what model drone are you using in intro? great footage i love art deco also
johnny mac Thanks. I used my trusty DJI Mavic Pro for this. It’s pretty good for video, but a bit weak for stills photographs.

But nowhere near the thriving place it was in the 80's
It was depressing 20 years ago.The views across to the lakes are fantastic though. Can you still get Brucianis ice cream ?
never been to the place, deffo needs some money throwing into it,yeah another good video.
i was a DJ on the Pier and at the Floral Hall back in the 1960s It looks neglected by the Council who know doubt favour Lancaster !
Morecombe needs investment it's good to other places on your channel it shows other nice seaside places. Thanks Hope your well
Thank you kkrispy 🙏

I totally despair at todays crappy comedians which they are most certainly NOT!!
They sure milked eric morecambe for all it was worth despite it not being his real name. Surely the town has some other claim to fame??
Not sure if it has any other claim to fame, but it is an alternative to Blackpool I suppose. It appeals more to the older generation.
