Three European nations have announced plans to recognize the State of Palestine, joining 143 other countries around the world in formal recognition. Leaders in Ireland, Norway and Spain cited a desire to support a political solution to the ongoing conflict in Gaza as the driving force behind the announcements, while Israel responded by recalling its ambassadors from all three countries. Israel's Ambassador to Ireland Dana Erlich called the move a "prize for terrorism." Catherine Connolly, an independent member of the Irish parliament, rejects Erlich's characterization, instead calling recognition "a step for peace" and a "direct result of people's outrage and upset" over Israeli brutality in Palestine. She connects the Palestinian national struggle with Ireland's own fight for recognition at the League of Nations just over a century ago and its history with famine and colonialism. "Our solidarity is with people who suffer in any way, but particularly from famine," Connolly says. "Next Tuesday will be historical, when we raise the Palestinian flag on the grounds of our parliament."

Ireland suffered tremendously over the centuries by its proximity to England.
That's how the British Empire began to spread through deceit and bloodshed, and ultimately the institutional dehumanisation of Irish people (and Catholics) as simians
They also sided with the Germans during the Great War.
No they did not where the hell did you get that from ? ????
Ireland suffers tremendously from people with the same religious and cultural backgrounds as Palestinians
@@lawrenceleverton7426 No Fool it was neutral country during world war 2.
Prior to the potato famine in Ireland in 1845, Ireland's population was estimated to be 8 million. Ireland is probably the only country in the world that has fewer people in it today than it had in 1845. That was no accident. It was due to a deliberate campaign of ethnic cleansing by the British colonial overlords who historically deemed Catholic Ireland as a threat to British security.
Yet Irish politicians are doing virtually nothing to cause material change for Palestine
The Irish produced 5X enough food to feed our population, but the British stole it for their empire while half of Ireland starved.
They did not consider Ireland a threat to their security. Thr Irish, like the Palestinians today, were and still are to many British, considered a lower life form. That is the way of colonialists, undermine their targets humanity, their language, their religion, their systems of governance. Then the colonists behave in the most extreme brutal way to shock and terrorise. Only the British use the excuse it was for their security, revisionist history. The British conquered so much of the world because they were extremely violent. If the oppressed retaliate they use the tit for tat as propaganda to turn their own people against them.
I think British wanted the food to rather go to the cattle so that themselves had beef to eat.
My family has been grieving the move for generations. It's something the Irish side of my family (Mostly Scotch-Irish by descent, American by birth) and the one things that gets passed down is that we'd rather be there again. I was lucky enough to live there for half a year about 20 years ago. It's a deep sadness that assimilation couldn't cure. A lot of people that have strong roots in Ireland feel that way. Most of our families weren't here by choice.
"I'd prefer not to respond to the Israeli ambassador, because she's had access to our airwaves for a very long time and she's failed to learn anything."

@@katieakin9397true. And btw, speaking as an Australian , our ' settler experience ' of colonisation was facilitated by the extermination of First nations peoples by the laws of the Brittish, and the will of the Brittish and Scottish landed gentry, under the guns held too often by Irish convicts or hired fearless Irish gunmen. Given they were not free travelling settlers at all they hardly count as colonialism's rapists but as fodder for the colonial rape machine.

Not so much Irish people as Irish political class, who mostly don't care at all about Palestine or it's people but see the issue as a political football to use and manipulate as much as possible for various vested interests. In reality while most people are generally sympathetic towards Palestine issues and people , they are also mostly indifferent and prefer to take a NEUTRAL stance, wishing both Israel and Palestine well, disliking violence and war/conflict intensely. SILENT MAJORITY you might say.
As a German, I love Irish politics. I never had sympathy for Norway because of the joint operations with the US to destroy the Nord Stream, Jens Stoltenberg as a warmonger and the killing of whales. The discussion in this war is absurd.
First. Israel acted selflessly to live in peace with the Palestinians in Gaza. It was more than a decade ago when Israel itself relocated thousands of individuals living in Gaza with lethal force from their homes to follow the agreement, which obligated the Palestinians in return to stop any kind of aggression towards Israel. The Palestinians had the chance to build a safe, functional, and prosperous livelihood. But the first thing the Palestinians did in return was to elect a government that enshrined the goal of destroying Israel in their constitution. The elected government followed through with its promise. Since its founding, thousands of rockets have flown into Israel. Dozens of civilians died in terrorist attacks. Millions of aid funds - intended for civilian purpose - were misused to build rockets, tunnels, and other nonsense. The crimes committed on October 7th like raping women, killing children, or kidnapping a baby, was Humus has been doing for years.
Secondly. Israel behaved more humanely in this conflict than any other conceivable party in any imaginable conflict. It allowed Palestinians to work in Israel, receive medical care or even migrate into their country. During war, they warn civilians where their military is operating. They admit collateral damage and apologize for it. They saved Sinwar’s life giving him a lethal brain surgery. They treated the daughter of Haniyyas daughter for her complex disease in Israel. While Humus was building rockets and tunnels with all the foreign aid, Israel supplied their civilians with free water and electricity.
The situation is clear. In no other conflict the responsibility for the suffering has been so one sided and clear - in no other conflict have the perpetrators been held accountable so weakly. People with voice and power who claim to reject war have the duty to unequivocally name the culprit of this war and do everything in their power to eliminate them. Everything else is responsibility for the resulting suffering and will extend it.

You ignore the fact that in 1922 Palestine was partitioned with a new Palestinian state called Transjordan east of the river Jordan with the remaining part west of the river Jordan to be the Jewish Homeland. The Arabs said No. Then in 1937, a further partition plan was proposed for separate Arab and Jewish states. The Arabs said no. Then in 1947 another, more favourable partition plan to the Arabs was again rejected. The Jews accepted and declared their independence. The Arabs along with 5 neighbouring Arab states attacked the new Isreal state and lost. The Arabs, or Palestinians as they were rebranded by Yasser Arafat and the PLO in 1964 have continued to wage war, intifadas and suicide bombs on Israel and rejected every peace solution. Hamas replaced the PA in Gaza after Israel withdrew and launched an even more terrorist campaign against Israel with 1000s of missiles launched in addition to suicide bombings. And, of course …October 7.
It is not a question of shared land, it is a policy of no Jews and no Israel.

@@doomslayer1984 "It was the Irish who were initially colonizing and persecuting the English population shortly after the end of Roman rule." The "English population" were nowhere near the places Irish people migrated to, namely the modern day west of Scotland and Pembrokeshire in Wales.
Next; the English people didn't exist back then. Angles, Saxons and Jutes did. And they were still on the continent. Why? Because the arrival of Gaels (Irish people) in Britain preceded the arrival of Angles, Saxons and Jutes in Britain by a significant span of time, about a century. There is no record of any invasion of western Caledonia (modern Scotland) by Gaels...because you have your history back to front. A Roman Expedition reported them already present in the 300s AD. They merely recognisded their language and habits as similar to those their scouts had reported in Ireland and presumed they had invaded.
That isn't necessarily so; the language could have been spread via trade or intermarriage, and there is no evidence in the archaeological for a change of technologies, fashion, architecture or weapons at the time.
Lastly; it wasn't colonisation. Colonisation has the specific meaning of a centralised state taking over another territory and stealing its land and resources. The Irish invasion of Wales seems to have been by a tribal group in modern County Waterford that merely took over local kingships and within generations had gone native; Irish names disappear within 50 years.
So not colonisation.
In Argyll and the Western Isles, the major vector of Irish culture was Dál Riata, a minor sept or family kingdom the Irish territories of which consisted only of modern county Antrim. Since the crossing at that point is less than 15 km wide, in any case, it's not clear if any conquering was done at all. It was more that Ireland became literate before Pictland did and introduced its language alongside Christianity by Dál Riatans intermarrying with Pictish clans, and via the work of missionary monks like St. Columcille and St. Canice among the pagan Picts.
So not colonisation.
Oh, and the same state of Dál Riata had numerous military setbacks and was itself conquered by the eventual first king of Scotland, Kenneth McAlpine, a Gaelicised Pict from Fortriu. In fact, the peoples had so inter-blended that he called himself "Rex Scottorum et Pictorum" (King of Gaels/Scots and Picts). That's not colonisation. That's a merging of cultures.
You promised us a fun fact. What you stated was neither fun nor a fact. By a long shot.
PS, Tristan and Isolde is a myth. From the Arthurian cycle. Written in French about 600 or 700 years later. And Arthur and his knights were supposed to be ancient Christian Romano-Britons- ie the ancestors of the Welsh - not Englishmen, who were the descendants, culturally, at least, of barbaric pagan Anglo-Saxons who fought against the Celtic Romano-Britons.

Before the Irish famine there were 12milion in Ireland, now its less than 7million (including the North)
Prior to the Potato famine in Ireland in 1845, Ireland's population was estimated to be 8 million. Ireland is probably the only country in the world that has fewer people in it today than it had in 1845. That was no accident. It was due to a deliberate campaign of ethnic cleansing by the British colonial authorities who historically deemed Catholic Ireland as a threat to British security.
Chrisum
@@warrenpaine It was 8 million according to the 1841 census. The issue is that occupied peoples have a suspicion of government and tend to want to hide their location and numbers. It was never as high as 12 million, but some historians speculate a population of 9 or 10 million. In any case, it was at least 1/3rd of the total UK of the time. There were 2 Britons for every 1 Irish person. Now there are 12-13 Britons for every Irish person. This really shows the extent of the long-term damage the famine caused.
@@johnmckiernan2176 How many Britons have Irish ancestry? Probably a considerable amount due to the mass migration of Irish to Britain.

Clown clueless liberal talk. They want to be friends with terrorists? That's funny

In Ireland we do not have a Prime Minister. Our head of government is called 'an Taoiseach' ( approximate pronunciation 'on tee-shock'). It translates into English as leader or chieftain.

If Israel has such a problem with Hamas maybe they should not have funded and supported its creation. Hamas was founded by Sheik Ahmed Yassin in 1987 at the start of the first intifada. At the time the “Islamic Association” (Subsequently Hamas) was seen as a way to undermine the dominant Palestinian political force which was the PLO or Fatah led by Yassir Arafat. Right wing Israelis thought they could use Hamas to play the Palestinians off against each other and keep them weak by having the secular nationalists fighting the religious Islamists.
