Good morning Mark. A joy to watch this build. Similar to what you do, when I build a pair of fuselage sides I use double sided tape to join them. Looking forward to seeing your next installment. Terry
Good morning Terry, thank you for your kind comment, really pleased you are enjoying the build, its a nice design and plans which make it very enjoyable work.
The nose gear may have originally been specified in aluminum hence the large gage. Not sure about New Era but both the Airtronics Jetfire .20 and .40 were supplied with aluminum nose gear in the kits.
Thats a really good point I hadn't considered, thanks for letting me know. Sorry not to have replied earlier, think I missed your comment at the time it was posted
Looking great Mark! Sorry I'm late to the party on this one, just returned from holiday over past week. I so love your attention to detail, I can never get over how precise your thought process is on your builds, I wish I had half of that. Beautiful build my friend, cheers! 👍
I've been building this model and am close to finishing an electric version so I had a lot of thinking about the nose section. I had to make two access panels underneath for battery and motor access. What I would advise is making the wing bulkhead all out of 3mm ply to make that section stronger as it will take wing shocks better. My only other gripe is that it is not a 45 inch wing but 42 inches. I did extend the wing by 25mm. Sorry guys, but we use metric here and have to deal with parts from the USA in fractions of an inch. I had to put a conversion chart on my wall so I wouldn't go crazy.
Hi Peter, good to hear how you are getting on with your build. Interesting what you have said about the wingspan, I have just measured the wingspan on the plans down loaded from Outerzone and they are 44" 5/8 (1134mm), so a tad under 45", not sure why yours would be a little less. Where did you get the plans? Could also be an issue with the printing. You can use the measuring tool on the pdf reader to measure. You will see in the next video that I do make a small change to the former which is holding the wings. I have been flying the finished plane and it is a very solid design.
In terms of the nose wheel arm, it seems I can only buy 4mm piano wire nose gear leg from Dubro from the US. I tried rebending but it sheared off so I had to buy an axle with a grub screw.
Can't remember where I got my nose wheel leg, think its one I had had for a while. I also had to bend it to make shorter, but luckly it went ok, so must have been a softer steel.
Nice video as always.
You have some serious building skills.
Thank you very much, really appreciate the comment
Nice and informative Mark. Keep it up.
Thanks Norm, plenty more to come
