Funny enough I had never had a chocolate croissant growing up in the US until I went to the UK for a college trip my freshman year and got a pain au chocolat there and struggled with how to say it. Got back home and ventured outside of Appalachia and would see chocolate croissants in stores and think “oh yeah that’s so much easier to say” 🤣 the fact that the UK version is super French in the spelling makes me think that’s the original way
