I have to interrupt my watching this series of an interview to say how much I appreciate Mark Rylance. Watching him makes me happy. There are certain people who are extraordinary in their own way, and I am gobsmacked to share the world with them while we're both alive. Mark Rylance is one of those people, for me.
Your question has niggled at my mind all day. It's a kind of wide-ranging collection of people. They'd include Thich Nhat Hanh (spiritual good sense), David Tennant (he always makes me smile unless he's playing a creep); Steven Fry (for his courage and wry wit); Russell Brand (his edginess wakes me up); Tim Minchin (an amazing blend of musicality, clever words and sense of story). These are all men, though, and I am sure there are women I would include. How about you?
As well as Mark Rylance - Bjork, Thom Yorke, PJ Harvey, Juana Molina, Kate Bush, Hariprasad Chaurasia, Toumani Diabate, Underworld, Orbital, Susumu Yokota, Brian Eno, Sasha, the Coen Brothers, Christopher Nolan, Ron Fricke, Darren Aronofsky, Spike Jonze, Charlie Kaufman, David Simon, Jimmy McGovern, Alan Watts, Vandana Shiva, Naomi Klein, David Attenborough, Charlie Brooker, Bryan Cranston, John Le Care, Hilary Mantel, Peter Brook, Gemma Bodinetz, Michael Buffong, David Thacker, Tom Stoppard, Philip Pullman, Benjamin Zephaniah, Chris Morris, Peter Tatchell, and (since becoming a dad) Julia Donaldson. Plus some of yours . . . To name but a few!

Of course you could sort out the period problem best by not setting it in any period at all!
