    The scandi grind is a nice feature

    Nice review! I received mine the other day but have not had much chance to use it. The ONLY thing I don't like is the chain due to its stiffness which cause it (the chain) to arc outward thus making it more noticeable under a shirt

    Im kinda impressed with 4116 stainless. Its used on the finnn bear which I think is the best value utility bkade period and its really good in the kitchen. Im trained as a chen and while nothing replaces a good forged carbon blade. 4116 works really well and im not afraid of someone stealimg it

    I feel that the steel is pretty ideal for the use. Corrosion resistent, easy to get razor sharp, and fairly tough. It doesn't hold an edge quite like a carbon/tool steel or a supersteel, but for a purely self defense oriented knife I don't see that as an issue. I own a peacemaker II in the same steel, and I can get it scary sharp in a couple minutes at most.

      Cold steel uses stainless on their "self defense" knives for a reason

    Mrs GT got her hair done. Looks nice. Y wife trained me to notice that kind of stuff. :). Nice review too.

    Carried any early version for years; takes the worry out of being close.

    What about the second edge on the spine? Is it false or sharpened?

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Christopher Petterson It is a false edge.

    • @knighthawk3759
      @knighthawk3759 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok....but does it have enough of a bevel to be easily sharpened?

      +Christopher Petterson yes. It's a soft steel.

    Good overview.
    A few questions:
    With it being full tang,is the thumb ramp also steel stock or is the handle molded over it?
    (Wasnt quite able to make that out.)
    Have you handled the drop point?
    Id much prefer a non-swedge blade and would like to know if it is also a scandi grind.

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not held the Drop Point, and the handles are just over laying the full tang, so yes it is.

      booshido I own the drop point spike and carry it everyday. It has a scandi grind,too. My knife came shaving-sharp, but lost its bite quickly. It's now down too a usable, paper-cutting sharp edge, with stropping after every heavy use. Had it for about 3 months now. Note that it is hard to fit 550 paracord through the holes in the sheath.
      Though the blade is securely held by its sheath, it has a little tick to it.

    How long of cutting till you need to sharpen again

    I have the Tanto version. I keep it under my pillow at night.

      you should only keep teeth under your pilllow, not your own teeth though, that would be weird.

    A good Diamond stone will put a shaving edge on the blade with just a few passes.

      I did it with a standard stone. Works great.

    they shouldnt have put that grind on the back since they didn't intend to put an edge I might like it more if I knew its purpose but its just for Aesthetics it seems. Great knife I wouldn't recommend giving it to a child unless they know the safety precautions of knives because it is very sharp an can do some series damage.

    Neck carry...? Nope no thanks, if that retention fucks up you gut yourself.

    • @sigiligus
      @sigiligus ปีที่แล้ว

      Retention is no issue on these. My biggest concern is that someone could get a hold of the cord and strangle you with it. That's why I'm hesitant to use a neck knife from any company. And it's pretty much impossible to do a cord that is both strong enough for you to deploy the knife while also being weak enough to snap if someone tries to choke you with it.
