Putting president buisness that low is a total crime. Just because he got a redemption doesn’t mean it’s bad, it’s literally the son redeeming his dad in his eyes

Nah I don't think a cheesy redemption finale is the way to go about a villain who's a mirror of real life corporate neofascists. People irl already have way too much sympathy for them as it is.

IMO they definitely handled Garmaddon and his redemption better in the show, they didn’t make it anywhere near as complicated, it just, straight up was that he was corrupted by the great devourers venom, which made the redemption better because we know he wasn’t in control whatsoever, so him being cured and turned human again was all they needed to do.

That, and there were several moments in the show where Garmadon willingly refused to bring harm onto his family, and even went out of his way to rescue his child from dying in a volcano, AND confessed to said kid that he wasn't a good role model and that Lloyd needed to pursue his own path, as Garmadon believed he himself could not. He only ever tried to harm his family when the Overlord forced him to.

As someone who was heavily into the original show, I loved Garmadon in the Lego Ninjago movie, purely because he was a great difference from his show counterpart. Mark Oliver(the show's voice actor) was mostly menacing with very few moments of levity, while Justin Thereaux(the movie's voice actor) was more of the opposite. Due to the movie being more lighthearted fare, Garmadon was naturally going to be far less menacing, but he still had great humor as a dorky manchild with hundreds of minions and mechs behind him

If you want some context, the Lego Ninjago Movie is based on a TV show called Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitsu. The movie is based on the storyline of the pilot episodes and the first two seasons. (For the most part) And let me tell you, it is NOT like the movie. There's a lot of differences actually. Not just that one is a movie with limited time and the other is a TV show that has the chance to flesh out all its characters and world.
No spoilers, but they also handle the Garmadon family story a lot better in my opinion, knowing that the context there is much different, and again because show, actually establishes the prejudice and unfortunate circumstances Garmadon suffered that made him the bad guy in the first place.
If you are interested, I do at least recommend the two Pilot Episodes and the first two seasons, then see how you feel about it. The earliest seasons are in my opinion the easiest ones to get into, as they flesh out so many of the characters you see in the movie, especially the other ninja. A reason why fans of the show don't care for the movie is because the six ninja are fleshed out well developed characters full of personality and dynamics with each other and the movie stripped said personalities and dynamics.
As a fan of the show, I do think the earliest seasons are at least worth one watch if you want to get into the brand, Jambareeqi.

In the original version of the Iron Giant's interrogation scene was a bit darker. Kent chloroforms Hogarth when he returns to the shed, takes him to a far away location and ties him up to a chair. His threat to take Hogarth away from his mom is also a little different. "We can make it more difficult. We can declare her... unfit. And all that that implies."

34:42 Actually there is an explanation for this missed opportunity: Continuity with the TV show.
The fact that Mojo was the Professor's lab assistant was revealed in an episode "Mr. Mojo's Rising" , which established that Utonium didn't remember much stuff before the girls were born, something that Mojo tries to use to manipulate the Professor.

    • @thefilmingdaniel1716
      @thefilmingdaniel1716 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes that’s probably why. Although Jambareeqi made a review of the powerpuff girls movie many years ago, and he mentioned that there was an episode that explored the professor and mojo’s relationship more, however, there could be people who haven’t seen that episode and only saw the movie. A film usually has to work on it’s own to introduce newcomers into a show, especially considering that this film is a prequel. If something requires you to watch an episode of a show before watching a movie, that’s going to create an issue and a bit of confusion for the professor and mojo’s relationship in the film’s story.

As much as that scene sounded like Kent scaring Hogarth into talk, it's kind of true too. As Kent as evidence that links Hogarth to the power station accident and can probably find something to pin Hogarth at the train wreck. And if word got out that these incidents were caused by a child, the town may start showing concern to where was the child's parents in all of this. Especially since Annie told Kent that Hogarth was wandering out that night.
Therefore, Hogarth is left with the ultimatum:
Does he take the blame for the Giant's recklessness, causing causing the public to look down upon him and his mother, and CPS takes him away due to "neglectful parenting", or does he reveal where the Giant is?

34:42 - "The movie never embraces the emotional meat of this backstory" - Well the movie can't do that because the show already did that in "Mr. Mojo's Rising" where it was spelled out to the girls and the professor Mojo's connection which even Mojo had somewhat forgotten all the details of. And as the movie is canon to the show it isn't going to go against that point so if you want that emotional story watch that episode for it.

Now, EVERY movie in existence would put that in the millions, right? Since the concept of a longform cinematographic release has been around for far too long to be pinpointed, with the credited date for breakthrough on the medium of theatrical screenings being on 1895, VERY LATE 1895, in fact. The concept, yes, was introduced by Thomas Edison's 1891 Kinetoscope, but that's a different tale
So no, we would not be in the millions of villians. Let's assume now that 450 movies have been released every year from the 1895 to 2024, which is nearly 130 years, 450 × 130 × 2 would be...117,000 villians, sweet jumping jehosaphat.

While Jason Issacs doesn’t exactly do a good impression of Paul Winchell, I think it’s still an amazing take on Dastardly on its own. He’s still campy, but he also puts in more creepy edge and sophistication.

Dick Dastardly is not that evil. All he wants is be with his dog and stole a treasure; that's it! He doesn't kill anyone or torture kids. This man just wants his best friend back, that's cute 🥰
I like the president of Acme's plan. It's weird and silly, goes well in a universe where Toons and humans lived together. It's a bit cruel to turn every humans into monkeys, forced them to build weapons than buy them. I would put him above Dick dastardly.

Last time I checked, I haven’t seen the movie, but I have seen the series briefly that this was the equivalent of I think the Digimon movie where you could’ve watch the movie and completely understood this series granite was it three stories, but last time I checked, he actually did supposedly have a good redemption arc I would highly get it a watch. It was the zoomer’s version of Bionicle for the childhood of the early to mid 2010s.

fun fact though with the Phantasm, His voice was performed by the same actor who did Andrea's father, which was supposed to be a red herring, we were meant to think that Andrea's father was the Phantasm, especially when she sold Bruce the story about how she thought her father was in town doing the murders and came to stop him, it's only when we see all the clues put together with Joker's identity reveal and that Andrea's father was dead all along and that his killer WAS the guy who would become Joker which set her on her path of revenge

4:06 reason they went with that definitely is from influences of the show which is really good. I mean in the movie which is a seperate thing mind you, garmadon actually is a bit of tragic character. Basically an evil snake, the great devourer bit him as child and poisoned him by corrupting him into slowly becoming evil which was a gradual process which took centuries. Also it’s later revealed that the great devourer was a normal snake corrupted by the overlord who is the physical embodiment of darkness and is essentially Satan. Also the 4 arms was for him to hold all 4 golden weapons which is caused by the evil venom. So to get 4 arms he needs to go to another realm. Only thing that holds him back is his son who he abandoned as he turned evil and was banished to the underworld. Then in season 2 the overlord possesses him kind of killing him with his body being a husk and yeah he was manipulated by Satan at first before that possession. Then once the overlord was defeated garmadon had the evil removed from him and he was normal. Also his son was destined to defeat him at least initially believed to so that’s another thing. Then garmadon sacrificed himself to a cursed realm to save everyone and then that realm was destroyed. Then garmadon is resurrected but only the evil part so his good side is gone and basically had to relearn his last if I remember that last bit right.

Honestly, I am happy with Mojo’s place on this list! I loved him so much in the movie! And personally, I think we could give him a pass on his backstory with Utonium not being explored since the movie is a prequel to the show and they focus on that in an episode where he reveals this and the Professor barely remembered him aside from having a monkey lab partner named Jojo. That’s always been a down side of making prequels. Certain opportunities have to be ignored for the sake of continuity. That’s not on the fault of the villain.

I think the reason they never dived into the emotional part of Mojo jojo's history is because the writers didn't want to risk undermining how that history was a big reveal in the show, had they left clues or tried to explore it here it would have been either undercooked because they had to restrict themselves from revealing too much or it would have contradicted the reveal in the show and undermine that

    Here’s my ranking.
20: Schwackhammer: His plan to enslave The Looney Tunes for a theme park is ridiculous. He ordered his minions to steal talents from famous basketball players. Stealing talents is cheating. The only things I like are how he’s money obsessed and Danny DeVito voices him.
19: Acme Chairman: His plan to turn people into monkeys is no too shabby. Perhaps some seriousness should go great.
18: Lord/President Business: He’s not the same in The Lego Movie 2. I do like how he redeems himself in the first movie.
17: Lord Garmadon: The Lego Ninjago Movie kinda should’ve portrayed him better, but I like his humor overall.
16: Terrance Mendoza: IDK about you, but envy is something that can give a villain the drive to become influenced, broken, or just pure evil. I can relate to Terrance because I struggle with online matches on Smite and Splatoon 3. Guy’s only got a few traits that make him a little too nice to be a bad guy and one of them is that he’s kind and polite to his clients.
15: Slade (TTGTTM): He finally shows up after being MIA from the series. I’m at bottom level of the grey area level neutral about Teen Titans Go. Teen Titans is much more mature. Slade is a dangerous foe. Even more so in the original. He is different however. Plot twist villains aren’t always that much to me overtime.
14: Pigeon Toady: He’s a socially awkward nutcase who rats the heroes out. Not to mention that he’s not really that much of a villain.
13: Dick Dastardly: (in my geek out mode considering that he’s seen on Boomerang all the time) Dang! Dick Dastardly just got a glow up!! Holy chalupa supreme!!!! His voice is so deep!!!! (In my normal commentary mode) his CGI adaptation is phenomenal and I have to see that movie, but I’m not sure why he’s the main antagonist of Scoob. Sure I can understand his motives, but seriously, I didn’t expect that.
12: Lord Ruber: Okay, despite Nostalgia Critic reviewing this movie already, I can tell that Ruber is edgy looking. Did I forget to mention the whole shoddy redemption seen of Bladebeak? Ugh! Lord Ruber steals the show.
11: AL-G RHYTHM: They didn’t have to make a Space Jam 2 in Cyberspace, but deleting The Tune Squad if they lose is going way too far. At least he’s gone and reduced to atoms in the end. This guy is one villain who I don’t think should be messed with.
10: Rex Dangervest: 5 words: Way better than Lord Business! Alternate evil versions of us from the future are not what they seem when they hide their identities from us. They pretend to be good, but then make us do bad things so that the future can be grim and dystopian.
9: Hunter: That battle mech that he uses to destroy the factory is just badass. I should see the movie sometime.
8: Lulu: More proof that Lex Luthor is a conniving and evil madman. Lulu has a motive like Rex Dangervest. Villains are either influenced, broken or pure evil. For Lulu’s case, she is both broken and pure evil.
7: LEGO Joker: I know that Joker and Batman have this bitter rivalry, but c’mon. It is blatantly obvious that Joker cares about Batman to an extent. I don’t have anything against The LEGO Batman Movie, but without it, we wouldn’t have gotten LEGO Batman’s glowing eyes in the Second Lego Movie. Is it just me or is The Lego Batman Movie connected?
6: Kent Mansley: Where do I begin? (Inhales) HE IS STINKING COWARD AND FULL OF PREJUDICE!!! Ahem! Try reading my rage and commentary for Kent Mansley in Nostalgia Critic and Hades’ voice. So yeah, he’s hilarious to laugh at, but that scene where he commands the guys in the battleships to fire at the city is where the final nail in the coffin is placed for his character.
5: Mojo Jojo: Now that I know his backstory, I’m at an extreme loss for words. His plan to make an army left me laughing my butt off when it backfired. I haven’t seen the rest of it, but I have to see how it goes in the end.
4: Darla Dimple: All I have to say is she’s pretty much intimidating when angry. I’d rather not let my cool go out the door that fast. Also, couldn’t she get a bodyguard with brains and muscle. I’d rather have that handled as well.
3: Joker (Mask of The Phantasm): Batman TAS Joker is one incarnation of The Joker that you’ll have to look out for. His lair being an abandoned amusement park ride is actually a good place for a lair if you were The Joker.
2: Phantasm: One thing I don’t like about this villain is all the frameups on Batman. I was expecting Phantasm to be a guy, but a woman!? That’s crazy!
1: Thrax: Thrax is a villain so dangerous that he is pretty much deadly and pure evil. I watched Osmosis Jones a bunch of times and overtime, I really got the big picture. Viruses are dangerous and Thrax proves that to all of us.

I love that Thrax's section is really labelled Frank, even if it's a mistake. Because it is objectively Frank that caused Thrax to enter him. There is literally no denying he was his own downfall, and he got worse before Ozzy and Drix left his body in the cartoon so it's freaking wild that they even tried in the movie in hindsight. Frank is a lost cause. I'd say he's be a good organ donor if his organs failing from illness wasn't going to be his primary cause of death.

Maybe I'm just simply easy to please but Garmaddon and President Business were some of my faves. I fell in love with the LEGO Movie from the animated aspects alone, but then he was just such a fun character for some reason. And while I've never been into Ninjago, I just love how he's designed. LEGO Joker is my fave Joker as well, though I was never into superhero movies in general - and I didn't care for the OG or modern Jokers.
Of course, Business will always be my first fave. :P
Omg, I forgot that Thrax had a name other "Red Death". I forgot what he even looked like, lol! He's definitely one of my top "Villains that Gives me the Most Creeps", along with Zira from Lion King 2 and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command's version of Zurg (those eyes, honestly). But I actually had an OC inspired by him, as well as myself getting sick (not with the same sickness, but still). Thinking of it...I may have to design another char after him - I have been on a "trench coat and sharp claw" kick lately...Though claws aren't abnormal for me to add.
Regarding who my faves are, I'd honestly say it depends on what we're going by. Like when it gets to just how evil they are, Thrax takes that lead immediately (though I've not seen all these films). If it's just for humor, the LEGO guys (with President / Lord Business being first).
