you added the first node in the barman's configuration file, what if we switched over to one of the secondary, the backup will fail or we need to create another backup for seconday servers as well?

Yes, if you are planning on shutting down the first server, you will need to setup a second backup configuration on barman. You can run both alongside each other so you don't need to play around with barman after switching over.

when i do "nslookup postgres1" it gives error "** server can't find postgres1: NXDOMAIN". is anyone had this issue? google couldn't help

very, very useful series (so far :)) ! barman --receive-wal will spawn a process. that should be noted to be persisted across reboots?

This is incomplete, you did now show all the steps, you are doing more harm than good. You did not show the recovery process. You are just talk.
