FOR EVERYONE THAT HAS PROBLEM WITH THIS I FOUND A SOLUTION
as of date: 11.04.2021
You first open steam and right-click Hearts of iron 4 in the library
Choose "properties" at the bottom
Go to general
at the bottom of the general tab should be something like "startoptions"
type "-debug"
Start/restart Hoi4
Profit!
I did that and it still says certain options are only available for developers (like spawning units)

@@battleship6177, same for me. Developer console commands do not work with -debug in launch options

Thank you so much! I've always wanted to make a better modern day mod but too cbf. The events in Ukraine make me want to make a mod where Russia starts like Italy with Ethiopia. I'll prob never make it but this is soooooo helpful!

It now starts with the war in progress from 22.02.2022 and soon I'll try to add an Ethiopia-like decision.

I cant start the debug shortcut because It cant find the way for it
Creo que podias activarlo desde el mismo juego si colocas el comando: "tdebug" y asi te salian las IDs de los estados
Can you make an updated version for Windows 11? The "properties" window is different, and there are no other guides online. I know I'm stupid for using windows 11, but it updated without my permission. This would be very helpful!
Been having the same issue.
I found out how to fix it, go through the properties tab in the steam launcher of Hoi4

@@noahfrohlich2802 Bit late but I think what they mean is if you open steam, go to HOI4 in your library, right click on it and go to properties, there should be a section in General that says "Advanced users may choose to enter modifications to their launch options." If you type "-debug" into the box below that without the quotation marks and close it, the game should then launch in debug mode.

Hey i just tried to spawn troops in the debug mode thing. It didnt work. As in it said debug mode wasnt enabled

i get error i dont know how to fix its problem with shortcut when i typed -debug and clicked ok then i got error that says The name '"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hearts of Iron IV\hoi4.exe"-debug' specified in the Target box is not valid. Make sure the path and file name are correct.
you forgot to put a space before -debug.

I'm trying to use the "spawn" command
Which spawns Units in a province.
I did everything and used " [spawn] [unit name/id] [province id] [amount] "
"developer mode only."
My question is, does enabling debug mode enables developer mode?
It's supposed to but I've tried it through the steam launcher and the method in this video. Neither of them work. I'm guessing there's some other developer tool. Lmk if you find one

yeah but the windowded mode take more ressources and process for the processor and the pc in general.

Does someone know how to do this in Mac laptop?
the game crashed while I had provinces assigned to no state, and when I tried to open the game, it crashes every time at 'intialising' I've tried deleting the folders 'map' and 'history', i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, i've tried exiting steam, restarting my macbook, nothing works.
I've spent so much money on this game and I'm about to have a mental breakdown please someone help
go into "OneDrive\Documents\Paradox Interactive" and delete the file "Hearts of Iron IV", then reinstall hoi4.
delete every document except mods and save games, it helped for me. Good luck
I have a question: Is there a way I can make a save file a mod?
For example: I play the Great War mod and the game ends up way differently, can I then edit this slightly and make a Kaiserriech type mod out of it?
Not automatically, you can mod all the changes that happened in the save file but a save file cannot be converted to a mod.

This doesn’t work, wth is going on? It still says “command available only for developers.
I typed -debug in Launch Options and launched the game and tried to use developer console commands but still it says with red coloured letters that this command is only for developers, typing -debug in launch options only gave me new window with errors in the game but console commands do not work.
I forgot to mention that when game launched in menu appeared a new button called Nudge, I attempted to test it on launched map in the game but after I clicked "Leave nudge" game crashed, After rejoining the game Nudge tool still crashes Hoi4.

can someone help me? Yesterday i was doing provinces in debug mode and game just crashed, when i use another mods - it's still crashing, so i can't continue doing my "mod" or play

bruh just use console to make recruits instant and add resources if needed. There's console command sites.

Now everytime I try to play HOI4 it crashes... Even after I deactivate the debug...

@@tiagorodrigues179 If after reinstalling your game it still crashes that has nothing to do with what you were instructed to do in this video.
My other suggestions are Paradox/Stream support to try and resolve the issue with your copy of the game.
