When my youth leader's wife was having inappropriate relations with the boy students in our youth group, the allegations were viewed as gossiping. So my youth leader and the church went on this series about gossiping. I even witnessed one of my friends being kicked out of our accountability group because the wife felt uncomfortable by the student's "lies." As soon as they left (because they felt called somewhere else )we found out everything was true. My youth leader's wife did have sexual relations with a minor. To further show how messed up my youth group was, I remember sitting in accountability group with my youth leader's wife (alone at her house) and she was admitting that she wanted to end her life while pregnant.

When I was in middle school, my teacher had us read this story about a group of Christian women who harbored some Jews. Apparently, one of the women felt guilty about lying so she told the truth and exposed the people they were hiding. The story depicted her truth telling as an “act of faith”. Supposedly, the Jewish people they hid were liberated shortly after they were captured and this - the narrative argued - justified her failure to protect them from harm.
I was very devout as a child, but even then, this story disturbed me.

That is a true story, told in the book Cory ten Boom wrote. The story went that some citizens were helping hide Jews. In one such family, the youngest sister (all were adults) said that she wanted to help the Jews & felt terrible, but she just couldn't lie.
Story goes the Nazis come doing their routine sweeps, and even barged in on the family's meal in the kitchen. The trap door to the basement where the Jews were hiding was under the table. A Nazi asked her father, one of the sisters, and then noticed how nervous & naive the youngest sister looked. "So where you hiding the dirty Jews?" she nervously laughed & said under the table. They all laughed & the soldiers left.
But the Jews in this story were not liberated shortly thereafter.

I have a father like this and I am a dad. Many guys, especially older ones, tend to think that they show some level of weakness by admitting a mistake or fault. I tend to swing too far in the other direction, too quick to think I'm wrong. Heck, I've even had that exact idea expressed during my annual review, but the reviewer is one of those "I'm always right. And even when I'm wrong, I'm right!" types.
I am the executive for a very technical field and I've found that the less likely someone is to admit fault, the more likely it is that they're covering for their own ignorance with arrogance. Someone who is truly knowledgable will love the idea of being wrong and learning more because they're confident in their abilities, not arrogant about them.
Depending on your age, you may have little recourse, I'm sorry to say. If you're underaged, I'd recommend asking for therapy. When when you figure yourself out a bit better, try and leverage that into a family therapy with your dad, possibly focusing on your issues to get him through the door. Tell the therapist what you said above with your dad in the room, sometimes it just takes someone your dad doesn't see as a child to show him that he may be wrong.
If his reaction to any of this scares you for your physical or mental safety, discuss those concerns with your MH professional. There is help and you have better access to it today than ever before. Ask for help, no matter your age, it's not a sign of weakness but of strength. It takes extreme strength to focus on bettering yourself and admitting your own failings.

God lies in the first book of the bible.
    Genesis 22.
He deceived Abraham into almost sacrificing his son as a "display of faith". When he saw Abraham was really going to go through with it, God said, "Wait! I was just kidding. I just wanted to see if you would actually do it, lol".

@@Adi_Bossanac Being omniscient and all-knowing means they know the future and thoughts of every living thing.
This is something repeated constantly in Christian sermons. When I was a Christian we were constantly told God is all-knowing and omniscient.
Since he knows the future and the thoughts of his servants, it makes no sense to put them through that suffering. This is why saying, "that god didn't know the future", is a very flawed claim.
Also, it's commonly believed in Christianity that the God in the old testament and the New testament are the same God.
Really stupid to "just do what you are told, no matter good or bad". It's that type of thinking that causes people to justify atrocities in the name of God. If you have a voice in your head telling you to do bad stuff, seek out a doctor.

I thought that was shockingly honest for a preacher, but eventually I figured out he meant “if you’re not a eyewitness, then ACCORDING to the Bible you’re a false witness”

As far as the, “What about Nazis” hypothetical. The playwright Bill Caine, (who I’m pretty sure is Catholic,) offered an interesting rebut. Basically the Nazi isn’t really asking whether there’s hidden Jews. He’s asking whether he can murder them. So you can “honestly” answer his real question with no. I don’t know if I buy that, but there is a certain logic to it.

This was another great episode. So many things in here.
I was a girl who was not believed and left in abusive situations beyond my control. I personally dont like the believe women hastag but only because I think it doesn't put enough of a spotlight on listening to children & men as well.
ANYONE can be abused and EVERYONE who speaks up should be listened to and taken seriously.
And I am personally very suspicious of anyone who implies otherwise or who automatically defend those accused by saying we shouldn't listen to victims. The paster going on about how we don't automatically fire pastors for making a "mistake" made me sick. In my book if you knowingly put someone who has already abused someone in a position where the opportunity to do it again is available to them you are also responsible for the next person they abuse.
