Depending on your age, you may have little recourse, I'm sorry to say. If you're underaged, I'd recommend asking for therapy. When when you figure yourself out a bit better, try and leverage that into a family therapy with your dad, possibly focusing on your issues to get him through the door. Tell the therapist what you said above with your dad in the room, sometimes it just takes someone your dad doesn't see as a child to show him that he may be wrong. If his reaction to any of this scares you for your physical or mental safety, discuss those concerns with your MH professional. There is help and you have better access to it today than ever before. Ask for help, no matter your age, it's not a sign of weakness but of strength. It takes extreme strength to focus on bettering yourself and admitting your own failings.
My father did the same. One of the main reasons I basically cut off contact with him. Just know you aren’t alone and that you need to do what you can for yourself. I love these longer series by Trevor. Honestly, this is the best channel on contemporary religion IMO. You aren't arguing about the epistemology and how we apply it to God (as much as I do love that stuff), it's not a historical analysis of ancient documents (again, i do love that stuff), but a complete and honest look at what religion is in the current modern context and what specifically they are pushing. And you make these videos with such a regularity and consistency, it's truly a wonderful channel.
Yeah, he’s talking about things that pastors are demonstrably, currently, or otherwise recently telling people and explaining why what they’re saying can be harmful lol
It's so... good for my brain. Like Trevor is actively not saying "all christians are bad" he's just pointing at the ones that *are* bad and explaining how that effects everyone (Both in the church and out of the church) He's a much better person than I am and I appreciate that.
Using a screen in screen reaction is a brilliant way to release the building negative energy this video creates. No sarcasm, no disdain, just a neutral face and tone. Well done.
Strange requests Trevor, but since you really really seem to want me to, I will. Okay, so here we go. "You are wrong, you are stupid, here are your errors, you are misinformed, you don't know what you're doing, but you aren't a liar." That felt weird. Can't I just call you a good person instead? You do such good work.

Thank you for helping me on my deconstruction and dispelling my fears of an angry God sending me and my closest friends to hell for being ourselves. Much love to you and your cat! ❤
I am so glad that this channel exists. It has been extraordinarily helpful in realizing that I didn’t need to follow my family’s very Catholic beliefs. Thank you Trevor.
God lies in the first book of the bible. Genesis 22. He deceived Abraham into almost sacrificing his son as a "display of faith". When he saw Abraham was really going to go through with it, God said, "Wait! I was just kidding. I just wanted to see if you would actually do it, lol". Its a pretty mean prank to play on your servant.
That god did not know the future. It had to lie and wait to see what will Abraham do. What kind of message that leaves? Just do what you are told, no matter good or bad.
@@Adi_Bossanac Being omniscient and all-knowing means they know the future and thoughts of every living thing. This is something repeated constantly in Christian sermons. When I was a Christian we were constantly told God is all-knowing and omniscient. Since he knows the future and the thoughts of his servants, it makes no sense to put them through that suffering. This is why saying, "that god didn't know the future", is a very flawed claim. Also, it's commonly believed in Christianity that the God in the old testament and the New testament are the same God. Really stupid to "just do what you are told, no matter good or bad". It's that type of thinking that causes people to justify atrocities in the name of God. If you have a voice in your head telling you to do bad stuff, seek out a doctor.
@@michealforguson5317 Yeah, but my statement was in reference the the fact that God lies. In the video you'll hear preachers saying God never lies. I was adding onto that by pointing out that God lies in the first book of the Bible. God lied to Abraham, demanding he sacrifice his own son to prove his faith. Since God is all-knowing and omniscient he should already know how Abraham will react. So, God lied to test Abraham's faith. Which is really cruel and also shows he's not a kind or honest God

I've only made it through the intro and already had to comment because I've never related to something more in my entire life. I have this deep intrinsic value for honesty and I get so upset if I think people don't believe me. Being raised in the evangelical church from birth certainly contributed to this.
When that guy says “if you’re not an eyewitness in the Bible you’re a false witness” I thought he meant if you hadn’t had personal experiences with God, you were lying if you said you know god exists or that god caused something to happen or anything else “in the Bible”. I thought that was shockingly honest for a preacher, but eventually I figured out he meant “if you’re not a eyewitness, then ACCORDING to the Bible you’re a false witness”
As far as the, “What about Nazis” hypothetical. The playwright Bill Caine, (who I’m pretty sure is Catholic,) offered an interesting rebut. Basically the Nazi isn’t really asking whether there’s hidden Jews. He’s asking whether he can murder them. So you can “honestly” answer his real question with no. I don’t know if I buy that, but there is a certain logic to it.
Also irrelevant, because these people are using a historical example that they don't need to worry about. These people will definitely be attacking people protecting migrants with zero irony.
Fellow ex-Christian who gets very defensive about being called a liar! 🙋♀️ But my mom was BIG on lying, even technically, and she was always convinced I was lying so she would constantly accuse me of it. She called me a liar to the point where my siblings did, too. It was her favorite sin to condemn or call out, easily.
This was another great episode. So many things in here. I was a girl who was not believed and left in abusive situations beyond my control. I personally dont like the believe women hastag but only because I think it doesn't put enough of a spotlight on listening to children & men as well. ANYONE can be abused and EVERYONE who speaks up should be listened to and taken seriously. And I am personally very suspicious of anyone who implies otherwise or who automatically defend those accused by saying we shouldn't listen to victims. The paster going on about how we don't automatically fire pastors for making a "mistake" made me sick. In my book if you knowingly put someone who has already abused someone in a position where the opportunity to do it again is available to them you are also responsible for the next person they abuse.
It should be noted the #believewomen were promoted by feminists, so of course they would focus on themselves in particular. It didn't mean other people couldn't create hashtags for their groups. But instead we got the bad-faithers.
There's an interesting trend that's been going on in New Agey circles for a while about mediums obviously being frauds, but justifying it with giving people "hope" about an afterlife. It goes with your video on sales tactics and the church. People are very comfortable with desired ends justifying shady means
This has been practice for ages. There are even books bundling a lot of sermons together... They don't only copy each other, but centuries of pastors...

I WAS CRYING BECAUSE I FELT GUILTY SINCE I THOUGHT I HAD LIED ABOUT NEEDING THE BATHROOM. Man, the guilt starts very young... sheesh.

It's really impressive to me how you are very well educated about the bible. I never went to church school (thank god lol) but I know a lot of people that did and don't have the same level of literacy as you have about the bible.
It is crazy that it doesn't matter what the topic is, these pastors always find some way to make it apply to trans people. I don't know how they do it, truly.

IF it survives Trump and somehow gets democracy back. These amendments need to be first on the order of business . Constitution may need completely rewriting if Trump gets rid of it.
As a mandated report at my job, I am legally _required_ to file a report with even a _suspicion_ of abuse. _Not_ once I have two other coworkers who visually saw it taking place. Because an investigation will take place to determine guilt, but only if suspicion is reported in the first place. Go figure that the predators don't want you to report. Why are Christians wasting their time fighting against anything other than the rampant cancer within their own congregations?
IMO evangelicals use the word “truth” the way authoritarians use “democracy”. They *love* the legitimacy the word brings and they *love* it when it benefits them, but it usually doesn’t so it’s easier to just slap the word on everything you do and reap the sweet, sweet legitimacy that way.

the haircut example is so funny to me bc i don't like lying but you don't have to either lie or be insensitive in that situation. if they really like their hair, you can be enthusiastic with them bc you're happy they like how they look (and usually confidence will make them glow anyway). if they're insecure about it, you can help them figure out how to style it so they like it. if they want your honest opinion, you can express that it isn't your favourite haircut they've had or that you wouldn't personally get that haircut without making them feel like their hair looks horrible. it's not a dilemma unless you're a misogynist who loves telling "my crazy wife needs approval" stories anyway

If it’s that difficult to be around him, you might have to think about doing what I did. But I can assure you it’s actually worth it, painful though it is.
I'm so sorry to hear that. Lots of love
You are who YOU say you are. No matter what the people who claim to love you say you are. Toughest lesson of my life. Much love from a stranger, friend. I love whoever you say you are
5:30 the detail of the name tag saying ‘annoying puppet’ are the details I subscribed for 😂
I love these longer series by Trevor.
Hell yeah. Trevor's work is so approachable and engaging, too.
It's so... good for my brain. Like Trevor is actively not saying "all christians are bad" he's just pointing at the ones that *are* bad and explaining how that effects everyone (Both in the church and out of the church) He's a much better person than I am and I appreciate that.
I cannot lie, this 10 commandments series has been awesome
Binge watched all of them.
And the new intro is AWESOME!!
your videos are so uniquely stylized, somewhere I can't get anywhere else. Great Video!
Even as a religious kid, I recognized that there were situations where lying was not only okay, but crucial-specifically in situations of safety
Using a screen in screen reaction is a brilliant way to release the building negative energy this video creates. No sarcasm, no disdain, just a neutral face and tone. Well done.
I can’t imagine an afterlife more filled with anguish and torment as a heaven filled with these loathesome pastors.
Before i finish the video, i just wanna say that, according to TH-cam, this is my most listened to podcast at over 57 hours. Thanks for everything do for all these years. The fact that videos from 5+ years ago still hold up today is a testament to the quality of your work and reluctance to change in many Christians sects. Thank you for helping me on my deconstruction and dispelling my fears of an angry God sending me and my closest friends to hell for being ourselves. Much love to you and your cat! ❤
Came here for the discussion about the commandments, stayed for that and the Douglas the puppet beef.
Isn't Yahweh supposed to be Omniscient?
That god is another god @@Sigurd_Fosite
I have a HUGE trigger about bring called a liar.
As a victim of slander by so many of these churches, I'm just going to take comfort in the fact that if there is a hell, basically every one of these pastors is going there.
They are going there for their “secret boy tickler show” anyway
Like how you named it false witness which is the original version of the commandment
When I read the CES letter, I was floored at how much information the LDS church keeps from its members. From downplaying Joseph Smith's practice of polygamy to walking back on claiming indigenous Americans were descendants of a family from Jerusalem.
Yeah... I'm leaving the church as soon as I'm 18
@SnickerDoodleBug05 Best of luck. I still have to finish my service mission.
@@jacqueshardin4601 best of luck to you too
i look forward to your posts more than anyone else i follow these days. thank you so much for your work!
Only just found your channel a few days ago, already binged half of them. Seriously appreciate and admire the work you put into these videos! They've greatly helped my own deconstruction process.
Brilliant as usual, Trevor. Thank you for helping move humanity away from religious insanity. This is our only hope.
my mother is a elementary teacher in oklahoma. they were being told they needed to have a very particular version of the bible (kjv, with the constitution, etc.) and recently ryan walters sent out a video of him praying to show the students... according to her, no one showed the video.
edit: that version of the bible matches very closely with the version trump is/was selling
KJV is usually popular with Creationists. Not exactly sure why, though.
@@hegyakbecause it's hard to read and easy to misrepresent. It makes controlling people and lying easier.
At least not EVERY person in Oklahoma is a fascist. Just 2/3 of them
If she ever feels like getting fired, tell her to do a lesson on Ezekiel 23:20
@@hegyak The KJV. Directly states what they believe politically. with the modern translations of it anyway. That is mostly why it is popular with them.
Douglas needs to be its own trigger warning. Love the vids I’m glad you’re still posting.
Wow! You used the "Shut up" scene from Breaking Bad for our good friend Douglas! *chef's kiss*
This year is going to be tough for many of us and it's always nice to see you upload non the less.
I've only made it through the intro and already had to comment because I've never related to something more in my entire life. I have this deep intrinsic value for honesty and I get so upset if I think people don't believe me. Being raised in the evangelical church from birth certainly contributed to this.
Darn, this is the most Sir Mix-A-Lot friendly commandment, and Mark fumbled it soooooo bad
If they want their icons in public, government/government funded places maybe we should make them pay taxes
i live right around the corner from gateway church, its scary how local this sort of thing can be
When that guy says “if you’re not an eyewitness in the Bible you’re a false witness” I thought he meant if you hadn’t had personal experiences with God, you were lying if you said you know god exists or that god caused something to happen or anything else “in the Bible”.
Or ofc the whole not don't ever lie thing can be dismissed
But instead we got the bad-faithers.
that ugly puppet fills me with so much anger LOL
Love your videos Trevor, keep up the good work! Looking forward to part 10 and the next big playlist!
LMAOOOOO NOOOOO the will smith clip you edited that together PERFECTLY
There's an interesting trend that's been going on in New Agey circles for a while about mediums obviously being frauds, but justifying it with giving people "hope" about an afterlife. It goes with your video on sales tactics and the church. People are very comfortable with desired ends justifying shady means
It gets me everytime that these guys all give the same sermons. Do they have a subscription service or something?
They literally plagarize each other.
This has been practice for ages. There are even books bundling a lot of sermons together... They don't only copy each other, but centuries of pastors...
I have been enjoying your content for a long time now. I love how well you balance light-heartedness and seriousness.
Hi, Trevor. I believe you, just so you know. Too many people here may say you're a liar, but just in case it helps, know that I do believe what you tell us. I see you as one of the most honest youtubers I know. :)
Me too.❤
When i was very very little like 4 years old i was at school and the teacher asked the whole group of us to tell them now if any of us had to go to the bathroom before going back to class after recess. I didnt have to go but like 5 minutes later when we were in class again i raised my hand crying asking to go to the bathroom. I WAS CRYING BECAUSE I FELT GUILTY SINCE I THOUGHT I HAD LIED ABOUT NEEDING THE BATHROOM. Man, the guilt starts very young... sheesh.
It's so satisfying seeing reformed Christians fight scripture with scripture. Such a great way to not only put a phony preacher in his place, but also shine a spotlight on how hypocritical the Bible is.
this is a really prime example of fundamentalists fundamentally not getting the tenets of their own religion
Love this just like I love all of your content. Thank you so much for all you're doing for the world, and never underestimate its power to make these positive changes. You are a true light in the darkness of hate, intolerance and lack of understanding so prevalent in this world.
Trevor! (I always think of trevor the vampire - strong bad email 🤣) You probably wont see this because I didnt catch the upload immediately, but I just wanted to say you seem like a really cool guy. Ive never had interest in meeting celebrities, musicians I like, or even youtubers, but I think you would be super cool to hang out with and talk to. Love that you "overshare" by being open about struggles and stuff. I know it really helps others going through the same things, the same upbringing, etc. I'm in Kentucky and dont go anywhere so we wont meet! ❤
I think of Trevor Belmont from Castlevania 3. (Also, I like your channel.
Jesus is facepalming right now at the majority of his followers!)
There’s such a terrible, revolting irony of these people lying about the commandment about lying again and again and again
"your LYING because you dont want to believe my stupid feel good (or feel really really bad) version of the world" is such a sad statement.
because either that person has been so thouroughly gaslit by religion or they cant handle being challenged and melt down at the thought of their worldview being false or incomplete or both
Christians always roast me when I say "I'm fine," instead of "okay" or "greatly blessed." I should start responding with "You want me to lie? Seems very unchristian of you."
The Douglas bits get me every time.
Ive been loving this series! Thanks for putting so much effort into it!
I think it goes to show that you can make the Bible about anything.
I just want to say that this series is the eaiest of this type of content for me to rewatch when I feel like listening to something. I probably rewatch the whole thing once after each new video.
The US Constitution really needs an amendment to enforce the separation of church and state.
IF it survives Trump and somehow gets democracy back. These amendments need to be first on the order of business . Constitution may need completely
rewriting if Trump gets rid of it.
That’s literally the first amendment.
Quite possibly the best use of that Will Smith meme I have ever seen. Well done 👏
This has to be the most broken commandment used against so many people throughout history.
You unpacked so much for me. Thank you. I had no idea of the baggage I was carrying from childhood
Hey, I just wanted to say that your videos have been very helpful for me and I can’t get enough. I’ve been looking for content like this and it sounds like we’ve been through some very similar stuff. Your work is appreciated.
I can’t tell you how excited I am for this video, Trevor! Thank you 🙏
5:02 ⚠️⚠️🚨🚨 trigger warning ⚠️⚠️🚨🚨 Douglas
13:04 "If you are not an eyewitness, then you are a false witness"
So every time one of you says "He Has Risen" without being an eyewitness to the resurrection, you're breaking a Commandment?
the haircut example is so funny to me bc i don't like lying but you don't have to either lie or be insensitive in that situation. if they really like their hair, you can be enthusiastic with them bc you're happy they like how they look (and usually confidence will make them glow anyway). if they're insecure about it, you can help them figure out how to style it so they like it. if they want your honest opinion, you can express that it isn't your favourite haircut they've had or that you wouldn't personally get that haircut without making them feel like their hair looks horrible. it's not a dilemma unless you're a misogynist who loves telling "my crazy wife needs approval" stories anyway
Every time I watch Will Smith stand up to Chris Rock I just think "Damn, couldn't you have left it at that part?"
Thanks so much for all your hard work creating these wonderful videos - your humour and compassion shine through even the darkest of topics. Keep up the great work 😀👍
When younger, a friend of mine on the spectrum could not lie; it was almost physically impossible. I once asked him how his grandfather (who was in the hospital) was. His response was, "He probably wishes he were dead."
Because I haven't seen this in the comments elsewhere, obligatory reminder that we stand with you, and with your sister. It's scary these days with all the horrific lies that people throw around, but she is not alone and she will always have people who support her. We'll continue to fight for rights and dignity.
I never wanted to choke a puppet to death until I met Douglas.
You need to meet Warmbo
These preachers are just so full of themselves. They just make up whatever meaning that they want for these verses and then use their position of power to shove it down everyone's throats.
you can sell snake oil. you can also sell mythology
Christianity is like pro wrestling, there is a ton of Kayfabe involved.
The SNL clip from the end of the intro has been stuck in my head for two decades.
"I drive a Dodge Stratus!"
Good video, as ever.
25:00 "Do these jeans make my butt look big?"
the classic question, with an oft overlooked good answer: "Beautifully so!"
Got off work to a brand new belief it or not! Let’s Fckn gooooooooooooo!! :D
It’s honestly so galling to see these mfs cry about how bad lying is when they probably support Trump of all people. You think you’d get used to the hypocrisy but it never really happens
You have such a great talent for editing, I am impressed every time.
I'm autistic and raised Christian. I feel like sermons like these really hurt my social development. As a teen, I thought I was a pathological liar because I told white lies or responded in what I now know are socially acceptable ways.
Is it just me, or does Trevor seem to have had a bit of a glow up? You're looking good, bro!
You can't lie to be tactful but you can lie to be treasonous. Cool cool cool.
thank you so much for your videos. i feel so alone in my deconstruction, your videos are everything!! ❤❤
Really feeling Skyler’s sorrow in dealing with Douglas
Freaking mood
I love the react camera addition to the clips
They Came Together is such a good movie, I was so excited to see the clip! Also you're a great person, Trevor.
