You know you're in trouble when a brass player says, "I have a better idea." Lol. I'm a trumpet player, so I should know. This video makes me laugh a lot. Phil Smith is my favorite trumpet player, no question. :)
just too adorable!!! wish there were lots more of these! not surprised at it, tho, as Phil and Joe are so down to earth and lacking in big egos. they're wonderful!
ROTFLMAO!!! Everyone that plays a brass instrument has felt this frustration and pain before! In fact even a some wood winds like saxophone players can appreciate this since mutes and such for them are less then ideal situations! "Cave in a Bag" love it! My side now hurts from laughing so much! "Hello room service? I need 75 pillows delivered to my room! No this is not a joke!"
I'm a new trumpet player (at age 58! I had a flashback dream last week to my 6th grade trumpet fumbling....don't ask, there's too much symbolism. heh.) and stumbled (get the alliteration?) onto this video as a result of exploring Phil Smith after he was (grudgingly WTF?!) mentioned in an online list as one of the best trumpet players of all time. All the great symphonic music of these two artists aside.......their great friendship just permeates this and the other similar videos during that European tour - lots of planning, lots of clowning, lots of fun. And, speaking as a 58 year old proud, straight male...... both of those guys are tremendously fit for their age...lean, no gut, lots of energy, great shirts. Is the pursuit of music excellence (yeah, yeah, I'm speaking of relative excellence, esp in my case) the secret of eternal youth? Count it down!!! Cheers Ya'll
The survival of western culture as we know it hinges on moments like this. It also convinces me that brass players have too much time on their hands; it could be worse, they could become conductors.
True, but there are some really good ones. I forget the name, but there's a really small one that fits inside of your bell and it actually feels very open to play.
+David Snarr "That's a-Plenty," an old jazz standard that's also a tune the Philharmonic Brass have played at certain times over the years. Here's a video: th-cam.com/video/XNqR9i57UsI/w-d-xo.html
Lol that bluebells of Scotland at the end was amazing

Hilarious! Well done, gentlemen!
These just keep getting better and better. Unfortunately, they'll be coming to an end soon... =/
Best upload so far from NYP
My Dad used to practice in the boiler room of hotels when he was on the road in the 40s. Didn’t bother anybody. And he stayed warm.
Love this video! Tonight I listened while my dogs were in the room. I think I need a dachshund cave! They rivaled Joe in volume!!!
Lets get some more of these videos :)
This made me laugh a lot.

I think is the best brass practice mute (best brass is the name of the brand)
I used to take socks and pillows and line a large cardboard box, but the cave was something else entirely
Good one!
“How does it feel to you…?”😂
Brilliant!
Make a cave of oboes, flutes, bassoons and clarinets.
I'd love to see a tuba cave haha
So, all jokes aside, how DO trombones practice while touring? Without bothering their neighbors, of course.
I didn't think you actually asked for those pillows. Rofl.
Yes! I think that's it.
HAHAHA génial!
pillows for days
It could only be the woodwinds' fault hehehe
what was the song being played in the background when they were building the "cave"

Poor Joe. 😂 😂 😂

Hahaha
"Best Brass" practice mute and it's copies the Faxx and Dillon models?
Practice mutes
Not the same.
I don't know, backwash has to be factored in....
