Have you looked at Murphy's stats? His completion % is less than Throne's, he throws INTs at the same rate as Thorne, his avg rushing per game is -4.2, so he doesn't run effectively, apparently . This is vs ACC competition, so he's going to improve magically vs SEC competition? Don't talk about potential, have we seen a QB's performance improve in our offense?

My questions with Murphy is did Duke win 9 games in spite of his performance and why does a QB leave a 9 win team. Duke seems to have gotten a new QB (Tulane QB) fairly quickly, so was Murphy asked to get in the portal? If he comes to AU, I'll support him 💯

I would say that this QB portal is similar to the 96 QB draft, and since we need two QBs, you go after the best available and then let all four compete in the Spring. My point in the original comment was to highlight the similarities in both Murphy's and Thorne's stats for 2024. In PFF, I think Thorne is one spot above Murphy based on the overall PFF grade. I've heard that Murphy's adjusted completion percentage is 68%, which is great. I've also heard the argument, when other QBs have been discussed in the past, that "drops" can be just as much on the QB as the WR, so I think that means that you need to look at the actual completion percentage and the INT/Attempt ratio, which both Throne and Murphy in 2024 had of about 3%. So, are we putting too much pressure on Murphy, if he should sign, to expect some type of huge improvement in QB play when the stats suggest it may be about the same? I think most said, before the season, if Thorne put up the numbers that he actually did, that we would be a 7 or 8 win team. So, is the issue the offense, or is it QB play? The jury is still out, but with a new QB next season, we should have a better answer to that question.
