Pai, my partner and I love cooking together and almost always make your recipes! Kao Soi is our favourite food in the world and we make it all the time. Thank you for sharing all these recipes with us :3 I am allergic to most western food as I can't eat grains or starchy foods, thai cuisine has saved me from a world of sad plain chicken breast and spinach meals. You're the best :3

I remade these delicious Thai fish cakes and enjoyed them with the maranaded Vietnamese recipe for chicken with asparagus atop steamed white rice.
    Wow! What a meal.
Thank you for your inspiration and sharing these delicious recipes. 😋

My husband and I just made these delicious fish cakes and sauce for lunch. They were even better than they looked (if that is possible!). We used the basa and the only other substitution was green beans instead of long beans. We did not deep fry but pan fried as you suggested and they were gorgeous and not greasy at all. This will be added to our regular recipe rotation, thank you!!

Pai, you're most charming and your recipes are genuine. You demonstrate the procedures very well. You are my go-to channel when I want to cook certain Thai dishes. Your fish cakes truly look great, and I know they are better than the ones in Thailand - because you use fresh oil, and you don't use MSG, which is such a hassle when eating out in Thailand. Lots of love xxx

Up to 50% prawn meat works on this as well. If you don't have snake beans (long beans) normal green beans work. Also you can sub in some garlic chives (

I made them for lunch today and they were so delicious, my boyfriend who usually doesn't like fish gobbled them up! They are so easy to make, I used trout because it's what I had in the freezer and it still worked. Also added one grated potato because I was out of eggs. So I modified it quite a bit but still used the same herbs and spices. It was so good, can't wait to try with other fish. Thank you for this recipe, it is definitely a keeper !

Pai, thank you for this recipe. I have been dying to have nice fishcakes like the ones I had in Thailand. I'm relatively new to cooking (but an expert eater 😁) but I managed to make these easily. They came out great. I even crumbed some of them in panco just to be fancy. The sweet chilli sauce was a hit too.
Your instructions are easy to follow and the tips you give are very helpful (like using water and shaping the cakes just before dropping them in the oil).
I look forward to making more of your recipes. God bless you 😇

I made these way back with whiting, -- Ive done with shrimp as well -- and they were as you say, a little leathery, but that's how they are at most Thai restaurants where Ive had them. Frankly the sauce makes any fish tolerable. I'm gonna try them with a tenderer fish. Thanks!

Finally made these today with some stir-fried nappa on the side, and they were perfect! I used coal fish - the stuff that fish fingers are made of. Easily the cheapest fish fillet available here in Germany, it was just fine. It's almost a shame to camouflage all the aromatics in the fish cakes with the super yummy dipping sauce.
N.B. I would not say it's really simple, there is quite some prep involved if you make your own sauce. A heaping tbsp of fish mix makes for rather large cakes, level tbsp is more to my taste. Use surgical gloves (word?) to form the cakes, no water needed. They come in handy for many things ...

Just tried to make them for the first time and they turned out to be delicious! I used frozen hake and I actually liked the final texture. The tod mun I have eaten before were always slightly rubberish and bouncy, while mine were really soft and tender. I used a whole egg, however, instead of just the yolk, cause the paste was a bit dry at first.
I will definitely make it again. Thanks for the wonderful recipe!!!

nice work. Down here in Australia, for the fish, I use trevally or flathead although flathead is mega expensive. Not a fan of the basa normally but it is cheap so if times get tougher I may have to go with it. Nice touch with the basil. Will try that next time
