I had a project with the Casey Jones with the cheaper model. I tried to add old Flyer linkage smoke and digital sound with LEDs, The project was so hard to do based on the engine design I just gave up. I have two engines in a box. Some day I may try to look at it again. I have learned how to do more since that time. Your results are quite nice, Hand rails polished bright and a Fire Box with Flicker fire fun to add too. Thank You for taking the time to share. Dennis
I like to add the Casey Jones model 21168 does have a factory installed smoke unit. Granted it is more expensive than the other lower grade models. However, every now and then I have seen just the smoke unit come up for sale somewhere ...cheap and if y;ou find one, that may work for you.
Thank you for these great videos about this interesting Gilbert Locomotive. These engines have plenty of potential for the creative S-gauger. There is not much information online about servicing or upgrading the Casey Jones and these videos have been a great help. Ficus Products makes a device for removing the shell of these engines.
I do have a Ficus device for removing the shells. Knowing not everyone have this device nor if one would spend the extra money for a one time use, I decided to show the "old" way for the removal process. Thank you for the very nice compliment!
Wonderful video I love what you did with the LAD lights. I took it one step furthere my purchased red LED flickering lights. And put one in the cab near the firebox. It looks like. Real fire glow with the flickering.
I bought a stack of these years ago and still have plenty. If I remember correctly I think I bought it from RFG who is in Long Island. If you can't find any I have more.
Nice project to upgrade a cheap looking engine Doug! Thanks for sharing

I share with you your outlook. It is indeed a labor of love to do this. Best to you Dennis
