I just love what this show does to me. I go from:"What?" to "Really?!!!" and on to "Wait, what?!!!" : )

keep in mind though that a large proportion of "facts" you hear on qi is pure nonsense. so you should trust your "What?" to "Really?!!!" and on to "Wait, what?!!!"s and look it up first and moe often than not you´ll find it´s just bullshit.

Thank you Symmetrie Bruch Fact checking: is it a myth or are some people doing it? You have two hours : )
Curiosity is what QI is all about. I hear something, check it, check it again and I learn a lot. Isn't it what everybody does? I know it's not, but give me some credit, please. Learning and having fun at the same time, what a lovely way to expand your knowledge.

fact checking and healthy skepticism is exactly the right attitude for this show and imo for life in general. sadly the qi researches don´t seem to share this notion most of the time. i agree i too have learned a lot from checking qi nonsense but i have often encountered people repeating some bullshit they have learned from qi to me who haven´t bothered to check because they think if a production company employs researchers one can expect them to actually do their job. qi also kind of prides itself on comedic mythbusting of popular beliefs so they think they would be extra careful not to spread fallacies and urban legend themselves , which unfortunately they aren´t.

I know I look young, my friends tell me as much all the time but it's only the lights of the laptop that does it ; )
We're only humans after all. Mistakes happen and you have to admit QI isn't riddled with them.
I think it's all the more challenging: Listen, be surprised, be amazed, check and be even more amazed.
However, I'm not a mistake hunter and it doesn't make my skin crawl when I happen upon one. It's ok, it happens and we can discuss them here and even submit our findings to the QI team.
So, all that being said, I do love this show and will keep on watching it because one way or another I do learn a lot and I love witty people.
So, Symmetrie Bruch, why do you watch QI? And really, believe me, it is a real question, no sarcasm intended here.

well depends on how you define riddled with them. i´d say the true statements still slightly outweigh the nonsensical ones but not by much. quite interesting, if true would be a title closer to the truth. i watch because it´s still better than most shows. it often runs in the background while i´m working on something. i don´t have a tv and it´s easily available on youtube which is another plus. also from time to time they have some of the best comedians on the panel who turn their talents to quite interesting, altough often wrong facts, which for me is much more interesting than jokes about topical, everyday stuff. over the years i have rewatched the stephen fry episodes many times because he knew how to handle comedians, when to pull the reigns and when to let loose. sandi moves on too fast, seldom deviates from script and doesn´t have the comedic awareness and timing that fry had. for me it dropped from a 8.5 to a 6.5 out of ten so one time is enough for me now with the newer episodes.

I can't believe no one picked up on Deirdre's joke about nuns being good at laundries.

@@Mjakartha Lots of Irish convents essentially imprisoned tens of thousands of women and girls and profited from their forced labour in laundries. Physical, psychological, and sexual abuse were all rampant. Truly evil. The Irish government has paid about €50 million in compensation to survivors but none of the religious orders have paid a cent. Google "Magdalene laundries."

The part where Sandi talked about hearing parts of the conversation reminded me of Lewis Black's bit he did about the girl saying if it weren't for my horse I would never have gotten into college. 😂🤣

Miles and Phil should do some show together. "Jupp & Jupitus". Or "Jupitus & Jupp" (the latter sounds like a law firm than the former… and I don't know why my mind went "law firm")

Half a byte (8 bits) is actually a nybble (4 bits), NOT a "nibble", which is what you do with a biscuit.

I do believe both spellings are acceptable, it’s still a pun on bite/byte,

The spelling one at the end about the Ben Hur accident - the question wasn't whether the claim is true, but whether it is spelled right...
(That said, the woman still wasn't right, as both spelligs are correct - they just ean diferent things.)

what was the mistake that the researcher made with the buzzers? or am I not getting the joke?

    • @frankwebb
      @frankwebb 6 ปีที่แล้ว +24

They confused "non-sequiturs" (logical fallacies) with "secateurs" (gardening scissors), hence the snipping sounds of the buzzers.

So I started watching this and I wasn't too happy with the line-up. Particularly I recalled for some reason that Deirdre O'Kane
isn't funny. Then she came up with this "Divine Catheter" 😂... that's it, I'm bought. As far as I'm concerned she can keep quiet throughout the rest of the episode, her appearance will still definitely be worth it even if it's for that single gag in its own.
