I am overcome with emotion when I see the artist Morag Caister as the winner, as well as the recognition of her new, fresh and original way of creating art. With all my heart, congratulations!!

They chose the right one - I am thrilled! Morag captures the soul of the sitter, not the facade. She is brilliant. 🤗

I don't think Morag's painting of the doctor was particularly good, but she knocked it out of the park with the painting of her boyfriend. I think she achieved a new and masterful level of creativity. The other two played it too safe. The judges are looking for new, innovative, modern styles. She was smart to paint what the judges wanted, regardless of how we feel. That's how you win a competition.

I love these 3 artists! Good job picking these finalists!

I was so delighted that Morag won - her paintings are so unique and the results of her almost minimalist approach are so wonderful with the spaces and positioning of the figures creating as much intrigue and beauty as the sitters themselves. Perhaps it’s the ‘less is more’ idea that drew me in from the word go.Very well done.

From the 1st time Morag won her heat, I already knew she was gonna be the ultimate winner. Not because I thought she was the best, but because the judges, for the most part, tend to pick the "less than the best" artist for one reason or another. The landscape series is a prime example of this.

Oh, please. Neither she can believe it. She painted almost nothing. Leave the canvas with a lot of white spots. That really was a child's beginning painting and she won. Sorry for the other two contestants, but the judges are really confused. if that is art then we are losing the master pieces of the past. When the more knowledge the human gets, the more stupid it becomes.

Sorry, but I don't agree at all. I cannot understand the commission's decision. The winner is very good, but far too experimental for the shown and presentation of the obviously seriousness of the famous painted person.. In my opinion the absolutely best catched face expression of all three participants was the painting of the elderly female painter, my favorite winner..

The words most associated with the craft of winner Maurak are:
    Unfinished
    Undone
    Undone-Ness
Which are all true. Her rendering of the famous medical guru, the knighted Jonathan Van Tam, was a solid disappointment, awful.
The true winner 🏆 portrait exhibited here is the enhanced movie star sculpted stud version of her boyfriend. Reminiscent in style of the famous laying down looking uphill ANDREW WYETH woman on landscape, without the grass, of course.
That James Bond 007 boyfriend entry is what got her the win. It's a sensational 👏 👌 🙌 absolute winner. BRAVO 👏.
Guaranteed her coming portrait will be full and DONE.

I felt the winner was a one trick pony I was getting weary of her uncooked chicken soup style. I hope she will come up with something more substantial for her portrait faces even though I liked her pinstripes.

Three interesting painters and a great program. I kept thinking about how differently the sitter has been treated by the countrymen he has served than his equivalent in the United States. 😢

i was actually reading up about him ( the sitter), and was reading that his life , and family's' lives were threatened .. The authorities wanted him and his family to move , in order to be safe , but they didn't move.. they had to have close protection :-(

I knew they'd go with the doodler. Crap is the latest thing. Makes judges feel superior to go against public sentiment. I hate Simon Cowell, but he raised the art of singing by picking the best singers and sending tone-deaf ones home. Judges like these aren't helping make art better, just crap art standard.

… very interesting finalé … all three artists are very talented … I actually thought Nina’s paintings were the most successful and museum worthy … I am amused how the judges thought the winner’s work was new and contemporary BECAUSE her work is very reminiscent of the high-end fashion illustration work back in the 60’s and 70’s of Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Lord and Taylors and WWD … I think they all did great …

Timelessness is what I think of when I think portraiture. The winner they choose struck me as more stylistic, almost fashionable.

I do not like the fact that Morag leaves so much of the canvas blank. There's just entirely too much canvas showing for my taste.

Awful winner takes her 4 hours to do stick figures ,Judges are looking for the unusual not the best artist imo .I notice most of the figures looked like they had uneven shoulders or short stubby arms not life like shapes.

Moral really wasn’t as good an artist as the other two artists. I don’t care what the judges say, there is no good reason for choosing her. I think the judges brought her back already knowing she would win.

The judges are looking for “something new that they haven’t seen before”, not something good. Remember that when you try to figure out how they selected the winner.

Absolutely did not agree with who the judges picked. I guess more traditional realistic paintings are headed to the Goodwill Thrift Store and if you can scribble and draw, you’re a winner. By the way, Vincent Van Gogh was murdered… he did not complete suicide!
