    I found you today. I have been going through your shorts. I couldn't stop laughing at the short with the baby crying and you reading Der Struwwelpeter. I am born and raised here in the USA. My parents were immigrants and I couldn't speak English until I was 5 and started school. I have this book and I love showing this to friends. They can't believe that this is read to children. It is a classic! Love your channel!

    My favourite German quiz show is "Wer weiss den sowas?" with Kai Pflaume, Elton and Bernhard Hoecker. Bernhard and Elton are usually paired with a celebrity each and then they need to answer tricky knowledge questions (multiple choice). It's very interesting but also quite hilarious because there's quite some banter between Bernhard, Elton and Kai going on.

      I think it could work if the right channel picks it up and if they pick the right people for both the Taskmaster and his assistant, and for the first season's panel.
      I can imagine a German version with e.g. Anke Engelke as the Taskmistress and Bastian Pastewka as her assistant.
      However, strictly speaking, this is a panel show and not a "normal" game show, and I feel like the comedy scene is not as popular and big here as it is in the UK. (My view might be a bit warped here as I used to live in Edinburgh for a while.) And the fact that e.g. the cast of German LoL keeps repeating itself, I think they might run out of good options for people to get on the show after just a few seasons.
      In general, panel shows are just a much bigger thing in the UK. In Germany, we have Wer spielt mir die Show. Other shows with celebs are usually single special episodes or stuff that is filmed in one day such as LoL. Also, it usually is not merely about the honour of winning some trophy but has a charity prize money attached to it. So again, how willing would German comedians (and other celebrities) be to participate in a German version of Taskmaster and to go all out on the tasks?
      Then again, it has been successfully adapted in several countries internationally, so why not Germany?

      @@ElisabethOrchard I only remember one really successful German panel show - Genial daneben. But we would have a lot of comedians here for a show like Taskmaster. Just look at Last One Laughing. I don't think there is another country that already has that many LOL seasons so far. I don't know why RTL didn't have the guts to try Taskmaster, just one never-aired pilot with Atze Schröder as the host. I could imagine Torsten Sträter sitting on the throne. But you never know if it works until you try - and it also could fail as it did in the US. They seem to like the original series there, but not the American version.

    The UK TV industry was apparently extremely good at licencing out tacky and cheap game and reality show formats. However, the Dutch were pretty good at it too. Big Brother is probably the prime example (although the inspiration is from George Orwell's novel 1984).
    Nb. Where does the impression that the UK does not have much in the way of farms come from? A look at the statistics shows that the UK has about 209,000 farms, whilst Germany has 255,000. More certainly, but then it is a considerably larger country with a higher population. 72% of UK land is used for agriculture, 55% in Germany. Britain, and the world's longest running soap opera, The Archers, is a radio drama series set in a farming community, with over 20,000 episodes in its 73 years of existence.

    • @pixelmaster98
      @pixelmaster98 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      probably because there is zero exposure to British farming in Germany. Basically every country has farming (some more/less than others), hence why few countries are stereotypically known for farming. The American grain belt or Chinese rice fields spring to mind, but I personally (for example) don't have any immediate stereotypical farmers in mind for most other countries.

    • @TheEulerID
      @TheEulerID 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pixelmaster98 Economically speaking, it's not a hugely important sector in either Germany or the UK, but I would argue plays quite a large part in the sense of historical identity in both cases. The countryside does get romanticised of course, but I chose to retire into a small town in rural countryside which is, by coincidence, just 6km from Jeremy Clarkson's Diddly Squat establishment, in part because of the sheer joy of being able to step out into the dense network of footpaths across the local farmland.
      In any event, Liam grew up in the UK.

    Germans love Quiz-Shows, they proof their own knowledge. The chase is so successfull, cause they have 20questions in 2 minutes, not these 10 questions per hour at WWM. And learning is fun. Who finally wins is less important I think.
    I heared from several people, Germans hate this scripted "declaration of war" at the beginning of each show.
    You said several times, British people love somebody beeing mean. Kind of scary. Maybe that's why Wipeout didn't work out either.

    Apparently 'the Chasers' also exists in the Netherlands but then it's called 'beat the champions'. That doesn't make sense to me, if you keep it English, why change it? Weekend Millionaires is what we call "wer wird Millionär", it's here airing for ages and with the same guy but it is not a big thing. I know Gunther jaugh, the woman with the cat that doesn't want to say anything is hilarious 😂 also the bake off "Heel Holland Bakt" is something big in NL.

    • @D_tje
      @D_tje หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Probably because they wanted to simplify it for a Dutch audience. The average person wouldn’t know what a chaser is, so they wanted to avoid people getting confused seeing that title. But they still wanted to keep it English because English sounds ‘cool’ and the ‘Beat the…’ title does sound catchy. And that way they wouldn’t have to be creative and come up with an original Dutch name. It’s just easy and convenient to change the one word. This is my guess, but I’m willing to bet I’m pretty spot on.

    Gino is hosting Family Fortunes? As in Gino D'Acampo, the Italian thief?!
    The rewind was nasty, she actually said doors way before that, haha! But I'd bet they won't bring Family Feud (that's the original, isn't it?) back in Germany,
    cause apparently they already tried to revive it several times and it never lasted very long. I never really watched it, found the people way too cringy.
    There's no other versions of Countdown with maths, each regular episode has 11 letters and 3 maths rounds, or something like that, I only watched one episode but I watched every episode from the comedy spin-off '8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown' dozens of times.
    Did you know the original is much older than the English one? It's from France, called 'Des chiffres et des lettres', running since 1964, I think.
    I'm sure they wouldn't have ä,ö,ü in a German version, it'd be handled with ae, oe, ue, like in Scrabble, just the appropriate number of each letter in the selection has to be adjusted.
    Proper nouns aren't allowed in the English version but as 'Hugo' has become the name of a drink in German it could be I guess, don't know if it's in the dictionary yet.
    The reason they never attempted any German version is probably because we had a bunch of other shows with letters and words throughout the 70s, 80s, 90s, or they thought the whole concept of the game is a bit too dry, personally I really liked slow calm shows.
    Btw, how dated is that 'Wer wir Millionär' app?! Francois Hollande isn't president anymore for quite a while, almost 8 years!
    Joko&Klaas? Ant&Dec? You can't be serious? Is there a word for 'Geschmacksverirrung' in English? I don't remember.
    The best game show host in England is Jimmy Carr! In Germany I don't care anymore frankly, haven't watched anything in ages.
