I think quite a few of the ancient sea monsters are now extinct species. Like that family crest has had similar reports in history of such a beast called Trunko (it has it's own wikipedia article). Remember the giant squid was also a cryptid till they finally confirmed they are real in the last few decades. Also check out accounts of military personnel that reported seeing great ocean beasts through the years, one good example in 1915 a german submarine had an encounter with a giant sea creature witnessed by 6 people including the officer and engineers which later in description found there had in fact in history been such a creature roaming the oceans called Mosasaur.
Thing is, if there were surviving specimens, they have certainly been wiped in last few hundred years with man becoming the apex predator of the ocean and causing pollution on never before seen scale over the ocean. As well we would almost never find any evidence of such a creature existed or lived up to recently, decomposition in the ocean would never meet conditions for preserving carcasses. Only a few rare instances where they would buried and solidified which rarely happens.

Damn.... This was some national geographic level of work, reminds me of my childhood days watching David Attenborough. I'd love to see the math on how we got 6 as a definite answer.

"Megalodon is not one of them."
Elsewhere, in the middle of one of the seas of Earth, a Megalodon watches this video......don't question it, as soon as the words, "and Megalodon is not one of them" and then leans back in a comically large recliner that it somehow acquired without much questions asked as too why they are building such a large chair and sending it to the middle of literal nowhere. The Megalodon leaned back, made all the more comical as it was floating between the surface and ocean bottom, and tried its best to placed its fins together while exclaiming, "Good.....they suspect nothing."

The meg is not a sea monster, it's just a chill oversized dude chilling in the bottom of the sea sipping it's cocoa watching TH-cam videos. Now that doesn't sound monstrous to me.
