    I suspect part of the price is the amount of leather they have to reject to get such a uniform color and texture. That isn't a criticism, just a fact of fine leather.

    That looks like a nicely made briefcase. Kind of reminds me of 1800's saddle bags, but new.

    Anyone who has a use for a bag like that (me) should be ok with that asking pricing. Years of use and leather conditioner will add unparalleled patina. It has burnished and waxed edges, like those found on fine shoes and similarly, it can be repaired. Between the materials and time it takes to make a bag like that by a small business in the US, the price seems quite reasonable. As Nick points out, there are many fashion houses that would ask multiples for a product with less quality.

    And it will just get better with use, the only place my briefcase is showing wear is the buffed and waxed edges. I look forward to seeing it wear and change as I move through my career.

    I know how you feel. No one I know round here wears a Rolex, and I have clients who are worth $10s of millions & the houses rank as more unaffordable than California so there is no $$ shortage. Maybe it's the proximity of the beach or the supposedly laid back Kiwi life style. The local optometrist was given a Sub by his Dad & wore it for 2 weeks before he decided that people just didn't appreciate it & it was costing him business. At least with this bag & it's "oh so subtle" branding, most people will never know what you paid (in real life, not the TH-cam world) for it if you do get one with sliver hardware. Good long term review.

  • @stronglikemonkey
    @stronglikemonkey 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Check out Stock And Barrel. Their leather is top tier, handmade in the USA, family owned, etc. You can see their work here on TH-cam. I own several of their pieces and couldn’t be more satisfied. Plus they are good people. That helps too.

    I carry two mass produced bags, Tumi or Jack Spade, because, well, it's what I can afford and I'm happy with them... but they and other mass brands make $500+ bags, this isn't a mass produced over priced mall bag... seems comparing this and those is apples and oranges (or apples and mangosteens)... looks like a fantastic bag worth what it's worth... for those that can, awesome, for those that can't (like me) don't hate, just appreciate the beauty and move on.

    Maybe I'm jumping the gun. Looks to me like the external backpacker has an issue -- the external wrap around straps appear to limit access for file folders, magazines, etc. For me that is a turn off even before I'd know the price!

    Frank Clegg doesn’t need reviews. His work reviews itself. If you want a beautiful bag that will last your entire career, then just stop looking and buy a Clegg

    While it blows my mind somebody would spend that kind of money on a bag it really shouldn't seeing as how I'm carrying around in $800 knife in my pocket. to each their own

  • @thomash4578

    The closures on the straps that secure the main compartment would likely drive me insane. They look really finicky to open and close. Even Nick seemed to have some struggles to run them smoothly. I don't know what types of closures would suit the style of a briefcase which approaches a messenger bag but there should be something which is both quicker to operate than those and doesn't look childish.

    • @tyhumphreys9149
      @tyhumphreys9149 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well they do have several varying designs with the same quality just for that. I like the aesthetic and buy bags like this and find it worth it because of my style but it's an issue that can be circumvented if you're looking for a top quality briefcase

    • @andrewdohm3703
      @andrewdohm3703 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a little finicky but once the leather breaks in and you open it a few times you can get in in seconds. I like that thou especially walking around the city.

  • @FidelCashflow_YT
    @FidelCashflow_YT 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's very nice, I love how old school it looks. Being made in the USA is a plus. Also, anyone who hates the smell of leather, is a madman in my book.
    The price tho, I am having a hard time justifying that. Now personally, I have no use for this. I try to imagine if I were some office worker, if this would be worth it to me. Maybe if I were a top level executive, trying to impress my peers. I guess I could see that...

    It is a really nice bag, but I do not think that it is worth $1,000. It is a classic case of diminishing returns. This bag might be nicer than one that costs $500, but it isn't $500 nicer than a $500 bag.

    • @jaredweiman2987

    • @ObjectsInSpace
      @ObjectsInSpace 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It’s easily worth that price. The materials are top notch as is the craftsmanship. You may not find value in those attributes, but many do.
      It’s no different then expensive hand made knives that use top shelf materials and craftsmanship.

      You and me both Tony. I've no idea who this video is aimed at but certainly not the 'average working man'. What's even more shocking is that there are crocodile skin versions that cost $15,000.00 (probably for the Sultan of Brunei)..!!!

  • @thomash4578
    @thomash4578 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not paying a grand just because it is made in the US.
    They are going to have to offer some real value to justify that cost.

    • @mistakenotou7681
      @mistakenotou7681 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some attention to detail ?value is crazy in fashion there are worse bags for more but yeah 1000 is crazy for a bag as 300 is for a knife some people will justify it . it makes much more sense than for example superme stuff and its also usefull to justify buying 200 dollar bag

      You ain't 180 pounds of RAW TESTOSTERONE if you don't carry all your clench your loose papers and files in your fist with veins popping at all times. Comfort and the ability to both carry your items to and from the office are for insufferable little Nancies and the birds. No thank you. I'll stick to stapling my memos to my chest like a man because I secure in my manhood and am in no way desperate to ENGAGE IN SHALLOW DOMINANCE DISPLAYS at every opportunity to affirm that.
